Choose the tax task you need to finish
Open the township-linked payment center, verify the property and period, review the processor fee and keep the confirmation.
Check the live balance first. If a grace period has passed or a tax-sale issue exists, ask Revenue Collection for an exact payoff.
Do not ask the Collector to change the assessment. Use the Assessment Department for value, owner, deductions and appeal questions.
2026 Final / 2027 Preliminary tax bills are available online
Wayne announced that the 2026 Final / 2027 Preliminary Tax Bills were updated online on July 17, 2026. The township said the paper bills were being prepared for mailing and should have been in the mail by July 24, 2026.
- Open Wayne’s live payment center and locate the property account.
- Confirm the property and the installment shown before paying.
- Check whether a mortgage/escrow company normally pays the taxes.
- Call Revenue Collection if the online amount and your records do not agree.
The township labels the current cycle as 2026 Final / 2027 Preliminary. Treat the quarter and year displayed on the account as controlling; do not assume every amount shown belongs to the same tax year.
For deadline-sensitive payments, use the live account rather than an older saved screenshot or prior-year paper bill.
How to view and pay a Wayne property tax bill online
Wayne links its tax and utility Payment Center from Revenue Collection. The live processor requires JavaScript, so use this guide for preparation and complete the actual account search and checkout in your browser.
Need the owner, block, lot or assessment instead of the tax balance?
Wayne links to the New Jersey Assessment Records Search for property-record information. This is a different task from paying a bill: the assessment lookup helps identify the property, while Revenue Collection controls the bill and payment status.
| You need | Use | Search with | Do not treat it as |
|---|---|---|---|
| Current amount due / payment status | Wayne Payment Center | Live tax-account options | An assessment appeal record |
| Owner name | NJ Assessment Records Search | Owner name | A payoff quote |
| Block and lot | NJ Assessment Records Search | Location or block/lot | Proof that taxes are paid |
| Assessment / sale / deed-book information | Assessment records / Wayne Assessor | Owner, property or block/lot | The amount to send to Revenue Collection |
Card, ACH, returned-payment and tax-record fees
Wayne’s municipal code establishes limits and municipal service charges. For online payments, the processor’s live checkout controls the actual convenience fee, so do not rely on a third-party calculator.
| Item | Published rule | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Online credit/debit | Processor fee may not exceed 4% of the payment | Read the exact fee shown at checkout before submitting. |
| Online ACH/eCheck | Processor flat fee may not exceed $1.95 | Often the lower-cost online route; verify bank details carefully. |
| Recurring township auto debit | Wayne describes the recurring checking-account service as free | Useful for future installments after enrollment is active. |
| Returned/uncollectible payment | $20 service charge | For municipal taxes, Wayne’s code says the charge is added to and collectible with the taxes. |
| Tax status certificate | $10 per search | Primarily relevant to certified tax-status requests, closings and professional searches. |
| Tax-lien redemption calculation | $50 after two free calculations in a calendar year for a party entitled to redeem; $50 each for a third-party lien holder | Ask the Collector for the current redemption procedure before requesting repeated calculations. |
Wayne automatic debit, authorization forms and the E-Bill trap
Wayne says recurring deductions can be made directly from a checking account and describes the recurring service as free. Its Finance Documents page currently lists a 2026 Auto Debit Form Fillable and a Property Tax Billing Electronic Payment Authorization/Suspension Form.
- Open the current Finance Documents page.
- Select the current property-tax debit/authorization form.
- Complete the account and bank information requested by the form.
- Submit it using the form’s current instructions.
- Keep paying/monitoring normally until you know the automatic debit is active.
The township’s published E-Bill option delivers quarterly water and sewer bills by email. Wayne explicitly says it does not apply to property-tax bills.
For taxes use extension 3330; utility questions use extension 3029.

What to have ready before calling or emailing
Wayne tax due dates, grace period and late-interest rules
Wayne publishes the standard quarterly dates below and a normal 10-day grace period. A township notice can extend the grace period for a particular quarter, as happened for Q3 2026.
Why you should not calculate a delinquent payoff yourself
New Jersey law allows municipalities to set delinquent-tax interest up to 8% per year on the first $1,500 and 18% per year on the amount above $1,500, calculated from the payable date to actual payment. Wayne’s exact account calculation can also involve prior balances, returned-payment charges or tax-sale items.
What an Added Assessment bill means
Wayne says normal property taxes are typically billed in June, while Added Assessments are billed in October. An added assessment can therefore be a separate tax event rather than a duplicate of the normal annual bill.
Missing bill, missing payment, escrow confusion or wrong balance
- Open the current Wayne online account.
- Confirm the property and quarter.
- Check whether the mortgage company receives/handles the tax bill.
- Use Revenue Collection for a bill/payment question; use Assessment for owner/block-lot issues.
- Do not let a missing paper bill push the account beyond a known deadline.
- Locate the online confirmation, cancelled check or bank record.
- Confirm the payment went to the intended Wayne property.
- Note the amount, date and intended quarter.
- Contact extension 3330 or the Revenue webmail form.
- Ask staff to research the first payment before you pay again.

Real tax-sale problem or scam call? Verify before paying
Wayne has warned homeowners about callers falsely claiming that a property is in tax sale and that the home may be lost. At the same time, genuine delinquent municipal taxes can enter New Jersey’s tax-sale process, so the correct response is verification—not ignoring every notice and not paying an unverified caller.
Revenue Collection or Assessment: who fixes the problem?
| Your question | Office | Why |
|---|---|---|
| How much do I owe / did my payment post? | Revenue Collection | Billing, balances, receipts and collection status. |
| Is there a grace extension or delinquent payoff? | Revenue Collection | Payment deadlines, interest and collection status. |
| I need a certified tax search/status certificate. | Revenue Collection | Wayne assigns certification of tax searches to Revenue Collection. |
| Is the assessed value correct? | Assessment Department | The Assessor values real/personal property. |
| Who is listed as owner / what is block and lot? | Assessment / property lookup | Property-record information is separate from the payment balance. |
| Senior, disabled or veteran deduction? | Assessment Department | Applications and eligibility are assessment functions. |
| I disagree with an added assessment. | Assessment / Passaic County Tax Board | The Collector collects the bill; the valuation appeal follows the assessment process. |
973-694-1800 ext. 3349 or 3352
8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Monday–Friday; Tuesday until 7:00 p.m.
Wayne says an assessment appeal generally must be filed by April 1 or 45 days from the mailing date on the assessment notice, whichever is later.
Senior, disabled, veteran and disabled-veteran tax benefits
These are handled by Wayne’s Assessment Department. They are different from the separate state-paid ANCHOR, Senior Freeze and Stay NJ programs in the next section.
| Benefit | Wayne-published amount/effect | Important eligibility checkpoint |
|---|---|---|
| Senior citizen | $250 annual property-tax deduction | Apply; Wayne lists age, NJ citizenship/residency, ownership, residence and income conditions. |
| Disabled person | $250 annual property-tax deduction | Apply; total/permanent disability plus residency, ownership and income conditions are listed. |
| Qualified surviving spouse | $250 deduction route | Wayne lists age, non-remarriage, ownership/residence and prior-spouse qualification conditions. |
| Qualified veteran / surviving spouse | $250 property-tax deduction | NJ citizenship/residence, qualifying service/discharge and ownership rules apply. |
| Certain totally / 100% permanently disabled veterans | Full property-tax exemption on qualifying dwelling/lot | Service-connected disability and statutory ownership/residency requirements must be documented. |
ANCHOR, Senior Freeze and Stay NJ: what Wayne details you may need
These are state relief programs—not Wayne municipal bill discounts. New Jersey’s current 2025 application cycle has a November 2, 2026 filing deadline and uses ID.me identity verification for online filing.
- County/municipality code when requested
- Block, lot and qualifier
- 2024 and/or 2025 property-tax amounts depending on applicant type
- Property ownership/occupancy information
- NJ-1040 income and identity documents required by the state
Revenue Collection: tax bill/payment amounts.
Assessment/property lookup: block, lot, qualifier, owner and assessment record.
NJ Division of Taxation: program eligibility, application status and benefit amount.
| Program | Current high-level checkpoint | Do next |
|---|---|---|
| ANCHOR | Current NJ guidance uses income limits and homeowner/renter status for eligibility. | Use the combined state application to determine the benefit you qualify for. |
| Senior Freeze | Age/disability, NJ residency, home ownership/occupancy and income-history requirements apply. | Prepare both current and prior-year tax/income details requested by the state. |
| Stay NJ | Current FY2027 guidance applies to qualifying homeowners age 65+ with 2025 income at or below $200,000, subject to the program’s ownership/occupancy rules. | File through the combined state property-tax-relief process. |
Tax searches, tax status certificates and property-record requests
Revenue Collection certifies tax searches; the Assessment Department handles property-record details such as ownership, block/lot, assessment information and property record cards.
Wayne’s code lists a $10 fee per search for a tax status certificate, with separate continuation/reissue language in the code.
Wayne assigns certification of tax searches to Revenue Collection. Attorneys, title professionals and closing users should call extension 3330 for the current request procedure and required identifiers.
Wayne’s Assessment FAQ provides owner, block/lot, sale, deed-book/page and assessment routes; property record cards can be requested from Assessment.

Wayne NJ property tax FAQs
How do I pay Wayne NJ property taxes online?
Use Wayne Township’s official Online Payment Center. Verify the Wayne property and tax period, check whether a special grace-period notice applies, review the processor fee shown at checkout, submit the payment, save the confirmation, and recheck the account.
What are the Wayne Revenue Collection office hours and address?
Wayne Town Hall is at 475 Valley Road, Wayne, NJ 07470. Published hours are 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and 8:30 a.m.–7:00 p.m. Tuesday. Town Hall is closed on state holidays.
What is the Wayne NJ tax phone number?
Call 973-694-1800 and use extension 3330 for property-tax questions. Utility questions use extension 3029. Wayne also provides an official Revenue Collection webmail form.
When are Wayne NJ property taxes due in 2026?
Wayne’s standard quarterly due dates are February 1, May 1, August 1 and November 1, normally with a 10-day grace period. For the third quarter of 2026 only, Wayne extended the grace period through August 19, 2026.
What happens if my Q3 2026 Wayne tax payment arrives after August 19?
Wayne’s current notice says a third-quarter 2026 payment received after August 19 accrues interest back to the original August 1, 2026 due date. Use the live account or ask Revenue Collection for the exact amount rather than estimating interest.
What fees apply to Wayne online tax payments?
Wayne’s code allows the payment processor to charge a card convenience fee up to 4% and an ACH/eCheck fee up to $1.95. The exact live processor fee is the amount shown at checkout. A returned or uncollectible payment carries a $20 township service charge.
Can I use Wayne automatic debit for property taxes?
Yes. Wayne describes recurring checking-account automatic debit as a free service and lists current auto-debit and property-tax electronic-payment authorization/suspension forms on its Finance Documents page. Wayne’s E-Bill option is for water and sewer bills, not property-tax bills.
How do I find a Wayne property owner, block or lot?
Use the Wayne-linked NJ Assessment Records Search for owner, property location, block, lot and assessment information. Use Revenue Collection or the payment portal for the tax balance and payment status; an assessment record is not a payoff quote.
What should I do if someone says my Wayne property is in tax sale?
Do not send money or personal information based on an unsolicited call. Wayne has warned about a tax-sale phone scam. Call Revenue Collection at 973-694-1800 extension 3330 to confirm whether the account is actually delinquent, in tax sale or subject to redemption and to obtain the current amount and payment route.
Should I contact Wayne Revenue Collection or the Assessment Department?
Use Revenue Collection for bills, balances, payments, grace periods, delinquency, tax searches and payment posting. Use Assessment for assessed value, ownership and block-lot records, deductions, exemptions, added-assessment valuation questions and assessment appeals.
