Wayne NJ Tax Collector: Pay Taxes, Hours & Due Dates

Wayne Township · Passaic County, New Jersey · Property-tax action guide

Pay, Check or Fix a Wayne Property Tax Bill

Use this guide to reach the correct Wayne NJ Tax Collector route, view or pay a bill, compare payment methods, understand the quarterly calendar and resolve a missing, late or questionable account.

The important township rules are explained before each official link, so you can check the property, deadline and payment method before sending money.

2026 Q3 special deadline: Wayne extended the grace period for the third quarter of 2026 only through August 19, 2026. A payment received after August 19 accrues interest back to the original August 1 due date. This one-time extension does not replace the township’s normal 10-day grace-period rule for other quarters.

Tax Lien Warning

⛔ Texas Attorney Fee Warning: After July 1, delinquent property taxes are referred to a collection attorney. An additional 15–20% attorney fee is added on top of your penalty and interest. On a $5,000 tax bill, this adds $750–$1,000 instantly. Pay before July 1 to avoid this.

Choose the tax task you need to finish

1
You want to pay now

Open the township-linked payment center, verify the property and period, review the processor fee and keep the confirmation.

2
You need the correct amount

Check the live balance first. If a grace period has passed or a tax-sale issue exists, ask Revenue Collection for an exact payoff.

3
The problem is value or ownership

Do not ask the Collector to change the assessment. Use the Assessment Department for value, owner, deductions and appeal questions.

Current 2026 billing status

2026 Final / 2027 Preliminary tax bills are available online

Wayne announced that the 2026 Final / 2027 Preliminary Tax Bills were updated online on July 17, 2026. The township said the paper bills were being prepared for mailing and should have been in the mail by July 24, 2026.

If your paper bill has not arrived
  1. Open Wayne’s live payment center and locate the property account.
  2. Confirm the property and the installment shown before paying.
  3. Check whether a mortgage/escrow company normally pays the taxes.
  4. Call Revenue Collection if the online amount and your records do not agree.
Do not mix final and preliminary amounts

The township labels the current cycle as 2026 Final / 2027 Preliminary. Treat the quarter and year displayed on the account as controlling; do not assume every amount shown belongs to the same tax year.

For deadline-sensitive payments, use the live account rather than an older saved screenshot or prior-year paper bill.

Official online payment

How to view and pay a Wayne property tax bill online

Wayne links its tax and utility Payment Center from Revenue Collection. The live processor requires JavaScript, so use this guide for preparation and complete the actual account search and checkout in your browser.

Open Wayne’s township-authorized Payment CenterCheck that the page is for Wayne Township, Passaic County, New Jersey. Do not use a Wayne County, Michigan or unrelated tax portal.
Locate the intended property/accountUse the account identifiers available on your bill and the search choices presented by the live system. If you only need owner, block/lot or assessment information, use the property-record lookup described in the next section.
Match the property before selecting a paymentConfirm the property address, owner/account information and tax period. Similar names or addresses are not enough to identify the correct tax account.
Choose the correct installment or balanceWayne’s standard quarters are February, May, August and November. Make sure you understand whether the amount displayed is a quarter, a prior balance or another amount due.
Check for a current grace-period noticeFor Q3 2026 only, Wayne extended the grace period through August 19. A special notice for one quarter should not be applied to later quarters.
Review the exact processor feeWayne’s code sets maximum processor charges, but the actual convenience fee is the fee shown by the live checkout. Review it before authorizing payment.
Save proof and verify postingKeep the confirmation/reference, amount, date and bank/card record. Recheck the same property account and call extension 3330 before sending a duplicate payment.
Escrow safeguard: If a mortgage company normally pays your taxes, compare the Wayne account with the escrow transaction history first. A paper bill in your mailbox does not by itself prove that the mortgage servicer failed to pay.
Property-record lookup

Need the owner, block, lot or assessment instead of the tax balance?

Wayne links to the New Jersey Assessment Records Search for property-record information. This is a different task from paying a bill: the assessment lookup helps identify the property, while Revenue Collection controls the bill and payment status.

Payment-cost check

Card, ACH, returned-payment and tax-record fees

Wayne’s municipal code establishes limits and municipal service charges. For online payments, the processor’s live checkout controls the actual convenience fee, so do not rely on a third-party calculator.

Mailing a tax payment? Wayne’s public Revenue Collection page clearly publishes Town Hall and the off-hours drop box but does not display a separate tax-remittance mailing address in the same instructions. Use the address/instructions printed on the current bill or confirm the correct mailing route with extension 3330 rather than guessing.
Recurring checking-account payment

Wayne automatic debit, authorization forms and the E-Bill trap

Property-tax automatic debit

Wayne says recurring deductions can be made directly from a checking account and describes the recurring service as free. Its Finance Documents page currently lists a 2026 Auto Debit Form Fillable and a Property Tax Billing Electronic Payment Authorization/Suspension Form.

  1. Open the current Finance Documents page.
  2. Select the current property-tax debit/authorization form.
  3. Complete the account and bank information requested by the form.
  4. Submit it using the form’s current instructions.
  5. Keep paying/monitoring normally until you know the automatic debit is active.
Wayne E-Bill is for water/sewer—not tax bills

The township’s published E-Bill option delivers quarterly water and sewer bills by email. Wayne explicitly says it does not apply to property-tax bills.

For taxes use extension 3330; utility questions use extension 3029.

Bank change or payment suspension: use the current township authorization/suspension form rather than assuming that closing a bank account or cancelling a transfer elsewhere automatically updates Wayne’s recurring-payment instruction.

Off-hours drop box

Wayne says a payment drop box is available adjacent to the sidewalk in front of Town Hall. Clearly identify the tax account and keep a payment record. For a deadline-sensitive drop-box payment, confirm processing expectations with Revenue Collection.

What to have ready before calling or emailing

Property address
Block/lot or tax-account information when available
Quarter/year you are asking about
Payment date, amount and confirmation/check number
Any tax-sale, returned-payment or mortgage notice
A clear request: balance, posting, payoff, form or deadline
Useful script“I am contacting you about [property address/block-lot]. I need to confirm [the current balance / whether my payment posted / the grace-period deadline / tax-sale or redemption status]. The payment or notice details are [details].”
Prefer written contact? Wayne provides an official Revenue Collection webmail form. The Revenue Collection page also offers registration for Revenue eNewsletters and reminders, which can help with township tax notices.
Quarterly calendar

Wayne tax due dates, grace period and late-interest rules

Wayne publishes the standard quarterly dates below and a normal 10-day grace period. A township notice can extend the grace period for a particular quarter, as happened for Q3 2026.

February 1Standard first-quarter due date.
May 1Standard second-quarter due date.
August 1Standard third-quarter due date. For 2026 only, Wayne extended Q3 grace through August 19, 2026.
November 1Standard fourth-quarter due date.
Q3 2026: A payment received after August 19, 2026 accrues interest back to the original August 1 due date according to Wayne’s current notice.

Why you should not calculate a delinquent payoff yourself

New Jersey law allows municipalities to set delinquent-tax interest up to 8% per year on the first $1,500 and 18% per year on the amount above $1,500, calculated from the payable date to actual payment. Wayne’s exact account calculation can also involve prior balances, returned-payment charges or tax-sale items.

Best practice after the grace date: use the live Wayne account or request an exact payoff from Revenue Collection. Do not send a self-calculated interest amount when the account is already delinquent or connected with a tax sale.
Separate October bill

What an Added Assessment bill means

Wayne says normal property taxes are typically billed in June, while Added Assessments are billed in October. An added assessment can therefore be a separate tax event rather than a duplicate of the normal annual bill.

You agree with the added assessmentUse Revenue Collection for the billed amount, due/payment status and payment route.
You disagree with the assessed valueUse the Wayne Assessment Department. The township provides a specific Added Assessment Appeal Form on its Assessment Documents page.
You do not recognize why it appearedAsk the Assessor what property change or assessment action generated it before disputing the Collector’s payment record.
You need an appeal formUse the official Assessment Documents page rather than a third-party copy so you have the current form/instructions.
Troubleshooting

Missing bill, missing payment, escrow confusion or wrong balance

The paper bill did not arrive
  1. Open the current Wayne online account.
  2. Confirm the property and quarter.
  3. Check whether the mortgage company receives/handles the tax bill.
  4. Use Revenue Collection for a bill/payment question; use Assessment for owner/block-lot issues.
  5. Do not let a missing paper bill push the account beyond a known deadline.
A payment is not showing
  1. Locate the online confirmation, cancelled check or bank record.
  2. Confirm the payment went to the intended Wayne property.
  3. Note the amount, date and intended quarter.
  4. Contact extension 3330 or the Revenue webmail form.
  5. Ask staff to research the first payment before you pay again.

Mortgage or escrow company says it paid

Compare the Wayne live account with your escrow transaction date
Check the property/account identifiers on the escrow record
Ask the servicer for payment trace/check information
Give Revenue Collection the payment details before duplicating it
For lenders/escrow departments: New Jersey DCA publishes municipal mortgage-escrow forms, including a request for a duplicate tax bill and tax-sale notice forms. Individual homeowners usually start with Wayne Revenue Collection and their mortgage servicer.
Delinquency and tax-sale help

Real tax-sale problem or scam call? Verify before paying

Wayne has warned homeowners about callers falsely claiming that a property is in tax sale and that the home may be lost. At the same time, genuine delinquent municipal taxes can enter New Jersey’s tax-sale process, so the correct response is verification—not ignoring every notice and not paying an unverified caller.

Do not give a caller bank or identity informationDo not let urgency, threats or a caller-provided payment link replace direct verification.
Call Wayne Revenue Collection yourselfUse 973-694-1800 ext. 3330 and give the property/account and notice details.
Ask whether the account is delinquent, in tax sale or already soldThose situations have different payoff/redemption procedures.
Request the exact current amount and accepted routeInterest and municipal-lien costs can change with time.
For redemption, ask whether a calculation fee appliesWayne’s code provides two free redemption calculations in a calendar year to a party entitled to redeem, then a $50 fee; third-party lien holders are charged $50 for each calculation.
Do not send money by gift card, cryptocurrency or an unverified transfer requested by a caller. Start from Wayne’s published phone number or official payment/collection pages.

Appeal timing

Wayne says an assessment appeal generally must be filed by April 1 or 45 days from the mailing date on the assessment notice, whichever is later.

Payment and appeal are separate tasks. Filing an assessment appeal does not automatically change the Collector’s payment schedule. Confirm what must be paid while the valuation dispute is pending.

Wayne NJ property tax FAQs

Wayne Town Hall is at 475 Valley Road, Wayne, NJ 07470. Published hours are 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and 8:30 a.m.–7:00 p.m. Tuesday. Town Hall is closed on state holidays.

What is the Wayne NJ tax phone number?

Call 973-694-1800 and use extension 3330 for property-tax questions. Utility questions use extension 3029. Wayne also provides an official Revenue Collection webmail form.

When are Wayne NJ property taxes due in 2026?

Wayne’s standard quarterly due dates are February 1, May 1, August 1 and November 1, normally with a 10-day grace period. For the third quarter of 2026 only, Wayne extended the grace period through August 19, 2026.

What happens if my Q3 2026 Wayne tax payment arrives after August 19?

Wayne’s current notice says a third-quarter 2026 payment received after August 19 accrues interest back to the original August 1, 2026 due date. Use the live account or ask Revenue Collection for the exact amount rather than estimating interest.

Can I use Wayne automatic debit for property taxes?

Yes. Wayne describes recurring checking-account automatic debit as a free service and lists current auto-debit and property-tax electronic-payment authorization/suspension forms on its Finance Documents page. Wayne’s E-Bill option is for water and sewer bills, not property-tax bills.

How do I find a Wayne property owner, block or lot?

Use the Wayne-linked NJ Assessment Records Search for owner, property location, block, lot and assessment information. Use Revenue Collection or the payment portal for the tax balance and payment status; an assessment record is not a payoff quote.

What should I do if someone says my Wayne property is in tax sale?

Do not send money or personal information based on an unsolicited call. Wayne has warned about a tax-sale phone scam. Call Revenue Collection at 973-694-1800 extension 3330 to confirm whether the account is actually delinquent, in tax sale or subject to redemption and to obtain the current amount and payment route.

Should I contact Wayne Revenue Collection or the Assessment Department?

Use Revenue Collection for bills, balances, payments, grace periods, delinquency, tax searches and payment posting. Use Assessment for assessed value, ownership and block-lot records, deductions, exemptions, added-assessment valuation questions and assessment appeals.
