TaxCollectors.org is an independent information website. Payments should be made only through the Town of Westfield or its official payment system.

Official payment route

Pay Westfield NJ property taxes online

The Town of Westfield accepts online property-tax and sewer-fee payments through its official payment system. The Town’s payment information states that property-tax and sewer payments can be made by electronic check as well as Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express.

Official portal: Westfield property tax and sewer payment system. If you prefer to begin from the municipal website, use the Town of Westfield Online Tax/Sewer Payments page.

How to make an online payment

Open the Town’s official payment system Use the Town of Westfield payment link rather than an advertisement or an unrelated third-party tax website.
Find the correct property account Search using the identifiers accepted by the portal and compare the displayed property information with the tax bill you intend to pay.
Review the balance Check the tax or sewer amount shown before selecting a payment method. If the amount appears incorrect, contact the Tax Collector before submitting payment.
Select e-check or card Review the processing fee before authorizing the transaction. The payment processor charges different fees for cards and electronic checks.
Submit the payment The Town specifically instructs online users to click the final “Submit Payment” button on the confirmation page so the transaction is actually sent.
Keep the confirmation Save the confirmation email or transaction record. If no confirmation arrives after you believe you submitted payment, contact the Tax Collector’s office.
E-check timing: The Town says electronic-check payments may take about 3–5 business days to clear. An emailed confirmation confirms receipt of the information submitted; it does not prevent a later return if incorrect bank information was entered.

Deadlines

Westfield NJ property-tax due dates and grace period

Westfield property taxes are billed quarterly. The standard municipal due dates are the first day of February, May, August and November.

Standard Westfield property-tax schedule
Quarter Due date Standard grace period
1st quarter February 1 Through February 10, subject to the Town’s weekend/holiday rule
2nd quarter May 1 Through May 10, subject to the Town’s weekend/holiday rule
3rd quarter August 1 Through August 10, subject to the Town’s weekend/holiday rule
4th quarter November 1 Through November 10, subject to the Town’s weekend/holiday rule

Westfield provides a ten-calendar-day grace period. If the tenth day falls on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, the Town extends the final day of the grace period to the following business day.

The grace period does not change the original due date. Westfield explains that interest accrues from the due date. If payment is not made within the grace period, delinquent interest is charged back to the original due date.

Interest and returned-payment charges

The Town states that delinquent property taxes and sewer fees are charged at 8% on the first $1,500 of delinquency and 18% on the amount above $1,500, calculated from the due date. Westfield also lists a $20 fee for a returned check.

Sewer-fee due date

Westfield’s annual sewer fee is due April 1 and receives the same ten-calendar-day grace-period structure used for property-tax installments.

Automatic payments

Westfield AutoPay for property taxes and sewer fees

Westfield allows residents to enroll in AutoPay through the online payment account. The Town says scheduled property-tax and sewer payments are processed on the first date of the applicable collection month.

Do not enroll at the last minute. The Town states that an account enrolled less than one week before a quarterly due date may not be included in that quarter’s AutoPay batch. If the timing is close, confirm with the Tax Collector instead of assuming the payment will be withdrawn.

If you need to cancel an AutoPay payment after it has already been scheduled, Westfield directs taxpayers to contact the Tax Collector’s office.

New homeowners

What a new Westfield property owner should do

A new owner should contact the Westfield Tax Collector for a tax bill after taking ownership. Do not wait for a paper bill before checking whether taxes are due.

1
Confirm the tax account

Use the official portal or contact the Collector to make sure the property record and outstanding balance are correct.

2
Check the next due date

Westfield’s standard quarters are February, May, August and November.

3
Fix the mailing address if needed

Property-address changes and sewer-bill-only address changes follow different Town instructions.

Not receiving a bill does not automatically postpone the tax. Westfield reminds new owners that New Jersey law places responsibility on the taxpayer to determine the amount due even if a bill was not received.

Change a mailing address

For a property-tax and sewer mailing-address change, use the Town’s property mailing-address process. If only the sewer-bill mailing address needs to change, Westfield instructs residents to email taxcollector@westfieldnj.gov.

Right office

Tax Collector vs. Tax Assessor in Westfield

The Collector and Assessor handle different parts of the property-tax system. Contacting the correct office can prevent unnecessary calls and payment delays.

Contact the Tax Collector for: Tax bills, balances, payments, sewer fees, payment posting, delinquent amounts, drop-box questions and payment records.
Contact the Tax Assessor for: Property assessments, assessed values, property-record valuation questions and assessment-related forms or information.
Westfield Tax Assessor: 425 E Broad Street, Westfield, NJ 07090 · 908-789-4055. The official Assessor page also provides Westfield tax maps and an interactive property-assessment map.
New Jersey relief

Property-tax relief for Westfield residents

The Westfield Tax Collector’s office assists eligible residents with information about New Jersey property-tax relief programs, but the major state benefits are administered through the New Jersey Division of Taxation.

For the 2025 benefit application cycle, New Jersey’s official property-tax relief information lists November 2, 2026 as the filing deadline. State programs include ANCHOR, Senior Freeze and Stay NJ, with eligibility depending on factors such as age, disability status, homeownership or tenancy, residency and income.

Do not assume eligibility from age or property ownership alone. Each program has separate requirements, and State Budget appropriations can affect benefits. Check the current New Jersey Division of Taxation instructions before filing.
Troubleshooting

What to do when a Westfield tax payment or bill has a problem

No online confirmation email

Do not immediately submit a second payment. Contact the Tax Collector to confirm whether the first transaction was received.

E-check was returned

Review the processor’s returned-payment email and contact the Collector if you need to confirm the remaining balance or interest.

You did not receive a tax bill

Request a copy from the Tax Collector or check the official online portal. A missing bill does not by itself cancel the tax obligation.

The assessment looks wrong

Payment collection and property assessment are separate functions. Contact the Tax Assessor for an assessed-value issue.

A drop-box payment was left after hours

Westfield says after-hours drop-box payments are processed on the next business day, which matters near the end of a grace period.

You enrolled in AutoPay close to the due date

If enrollment occurred less than a week before the due date, verify with the office whether that quarter will be included in the AutoPay batch.

Useful information to have before calling Keep the property address, tax-account information shown on your bill or portal, the payment date, payment method and any confirmation number available. This helps the office identify the transaction you are asking about.
Delinquent balances

Westfield tax sales and unpaid municipal charges

New Jersey municipalities conduct tax sales to enforce collection of qualifying unpaid municipal charges. Westfield’s Tax Collector publishes tax-sale information separately when a sale is scheduled.

If an account is already delinquent, do not rely on an old tax-sale notice to calculate the amount required today. Interest, penalties, sale costs or other charges can change the payoff amount. Contact the Westfield Tax Collector or use the current official account system to verify the balance.

If a tax-sale certificate or redemption issue is involved: ask the Tax Collector for the current official redemption or payoff information applicable to that property before sending money.
