Use this guide to find the correct Stratford tax account, compare online fees, confirm Tax Collector hours, resolve a late bill or DMV hold, and know when the Tax Assessor—not the payment office—needs to fix the record.

What do you need to do right now?
Search the live account, confirm the bill type and year, then review the processor fee before checkout.
Do not pay online first. The payment method changes how quickly Stratford can release the DMV block.
Use the Tax Assessor for assessment, ownership, exemption and vehicle-value issues instead of waiting at the payment counter.
How to pay a Stratford tax bill online
The Town’s current Tax Collector page links its online payments to Point & Pay through the MyTaxBill portal. Use the steps below to avoid paying the wrong record.
Which Stratford online search should you use?
The portal supports more search routes than a basic name lookup. Use the narrowest reliable identifier you already have.
| Search | What to enter | What it can find | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name | Last name + space + first initial; no punctuation. Business name also works. | All bill types | You know the taxpayer/business name but not the bill number. |
| Property location | Street number and street name; omit Street, Court, Lane and similar suffixes. | Real estate and personal property | You know the Stratford address. |
| Bill number | Grand List year, bill type and bill number. | Matching bill | You have a printed bill, notice or tax statement. |
| Account number | Account number shown on the bill. | Real estate and personal property | Fast lookup from an existing bill. |
| Map / Block / Parcel | Parcel identifiers from the property record. | Property-linked bills | Owner names changed or similar addresses appear. |
| MV / supplemental link | Link year, link type and link number. | Motor vehicle and supplemental accounts | Older vehicle-tax and DMV-clearance research. |
| Tax ID / Account ID | Exact identifier from the record or notice. | Matching account | A notice uses an internal ID. |
| DBA | Doing-business-as name. | Business-related records | The legal entity name differs from the storefront name. |
Bill types you may see
| Code | Bill type | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| 01 | Real Estate | Property, owner, Grand List year and installment. |
| 02 | Personal Property | Business/taxpayer account and assessment year. |
| 03 | Motor Vehicle | Vehicle account, year and DMV-clearance need. |
| 04 | Motor Vehicle Supplemental | Supplemental vehicle period and link data. |
| 05 | Sewer Assessment | Assessment account—not ordinary property tax. |

| 09 | Sidewalk Assessment | Special-assessment account. |

Stratford online tax-payment fees explained
The current Town payment path uses Point & Pay. A dated January 2025 notice referenced an older InvoiceCloud arrangement, while the July 2025 Town notice and current Point & Pay portal show the newer fee schedule below. Always trust the fee displayed at checkout before authorizing the transaction.
| Method | Fee shown | When it helps | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| E-check / ACH | $0.90 flat | Usually the lowest-cost online option. | Enter routing/account numbers carefully. |
| Visa / Mastercard debit | $3.50 flat | Predictable debit-card cost. | Not the same as credit-card pricing. |
| Credit card | 2.5%, $2 minimum | Card convenience. | The percentage grows on larger tax bills. |
| Apple Pay / Google Pay | 2.5%, $2 minimum | Digital-wallet checkout where offered. | Still carries percentage pricing. |
Pay by mail, Town Hall or Stratford’s drop box
PO Box 9722
Stratford, CT 06615-9122
Keep a copy of the bill and payment record. Allow enough time when a deadline is close.
2725 Main Street, Stratford, CT 06615.
Regular counter hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
The current Town page says normal in-person tax payments are cash or check only.
A Town collection notice describes a drop box inside Town Hall, outside the Tax Collector’s Office.
Place a copy of each bill and the check in a sealed envelope. Because this instruction appears in a dated collection-period notice, verify current access before relying on it near a deadline.

Stratford DMV clearance: choose the payment method first
The fastest payment method for a normal bill is not necessarily the fastest method for Connecticut DMV release.
| Payment method | Town guidance | Use when |
|---|---|---|
| Credit card | Not cleared with DMV for 10 days. | Do not choose this when registration must be released quickly. |
| Debit card | Not cleared with DMV for 10 days. | Same caution as credit card. |
| Ordinary check | Not cleared with DMV for 10 days. | Suitable only when you can wait. |
| Cash | Clears overnight for next-business-day registration. | Faster clearance at the office. |
| Money order | Clears overnight for next-business-day registration. | Faster clearance when accepted by the Town for this purpose. |
| Certified bank check | Clears overnight for next-business-day registration. | Faster clearance without cash. |

Late Stratford taxes: do not estimate the interest
Connecticut General Statutes §12-146 provides that delinquent municipal tax principal is subject to 18% annual interest, and each fraction of a month is treated as a whole month for the statutory calculation. State law also contains a minimum-interest provision that a municipality may elect not to impose.

Stratford Tax Collector vs Tax Assessor
Use the Collector when the problem is the bill or payment. Use the Assessor when the problem is the underlying assessment record.

|---|---|---|
| How much do I owe? | Tax Collector | Maintains bill balances and payment status. |
| Did my payment post? | Tax Collector | Handles payment records and receipts. |

| Why is my property assessment this amount? | Tax Assessor | Maintains real-estate assessed values. |

2025 revaluation context for 2026 bills
Why a Stratford motor-vehicle tax can change
Stratford’s Tax Assessor published a motor-vehicle notice explaining that Connecticut vehicle taxation is no longer based on ordinary market value in the former way; the current approach uses depreciated MSRP under state changes that began in 2022. This can produce increases for some vehicles even when broader property-tax policy is unchanged.
“How much is due, is it delinquent, did my payment post, and can DMV clear me?”
“Why is this vehicle assessed this way, or what proof is needed because it was sold, stolen, salvaged or moved?”
Business personal-property filing is separate from paying the bill
Stratford’s Assessor defines taxable business personal property broadly, including furniture, fixtures, computers, tools, machinery, unregistered vehicles, signs, leased equipment and other assets used in business or to earn income.
If the business closed or moved
The Assessor asks for two forms of documentation showing the closing date, such as trade-name cancellation, a Connecticut dissolution certificate or proof the business checking account closed.
If the business moved to another jurisdiction, provide documents showing registration in the new location.
Stratford’s Tax Collector also bills sewer and special assessments
The Tax Collector says the office annually bills and collects real estate, personal property, motor vehicle, residential and commercial sewer-use charges and special assessments. That is why the online portal contains several non-property-tax bill types.
Looking for Stratford Tax Collector photos or reviews?
The Tax Collector is not a separate storefront; the office is inside Stratford Town Hall at 2725 Main Street. If your goal is to recognize the building before visiting, use the Town’s official Stratford Photo Tour and the verified Town Hall address.
Review scores on third-party platforms change and do not determine whether a tax rule, fee, deadline or DMV clearance instruction is correct. This page does not republish a star rating and does not add Review schema. Use official Town information for actions involving money or deadlines.

Confirm the bill type, year, owner and amount before checkout, review the disclosed convenience fee and save the confirmation.
What are the Stratford Tax Collector office hours?
The Town lists Tax Collector office hours as Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. at Town Hall, 2725 Main Street, Stratford, CT 06615. Weekend hours are announced only during some collection periods, so verify any special opening before traveling.
What is the Stratford Tax Collector phone number?
The Tax Collector’s Office phone number is 203-385-4030 and the published fax number is 203-381-2059. The Point & Pay portal also displays IVR processor number 833-317-4313.
What fees apply when I pay Stratford taxes online?

How do I get Stratford DMV tax clearance quickly?
The Town says credit-card, debit-card and check payments do not clear with DMV for 10 days. Cash, money order or certified bank check can clear overnight for registration on the next business day, and same-day clearance may be available for an additional fee. All delinquent taxes in the registrant’s and co-registrant’s names must be paid in full for a release.
Where do I mail a Stratford CT tax payment?
Mail the payment to Tax Collector, Town of Stratford, PO Box 9722, Stratford, CT 06615-9122. Keep a copy of the bill or payment record and allow enough mailing time near a deadline.
What should I do if the July 2026 Stratford tax installment is still unpaid?
The Town’s current notice says first installments due July 1, 2026 were payable without interest through August 3, 2026. That window has passed. Check the live account or call the Tax Collector for the current balance because Connecticut delinquent-tax interest is calculated from the due date under state law.
Should I call the Stratford Tax Collector or Tax Assessor?
Use the Tax Collector for bills, balances, payments, receipts, delinquency, DMV clearance and sewer-use payment questions. Use the Tax Assessor for assessed value, ownership records, exemptions, real-estate revaluation, motor-vehicle assessment adjustments and business personal-property declarations.
What should I do if my Stratford tax bill or payment is missing?
Search the authorized online portal using more than one search method, then contact the Tax Collector with the owner name, property or vehicle details, bill year, payment amount, date and confirmation or check number. Do not make a duplicate payment until the office has checked the first transaction.
Where can I see Stratford Tax Collector photos or reviews?
The Tax Collector is inside Stratford Town Hall at 2725 Main Street. The Town’s official Stratford Photo Tour can help users recognize municipal locations. Third-party review ratings change and are not official tax guidance, so confirm hours, payment rules and office information on the Town website before visiting.
