Choose the Right Office, Time Slot and Online Service
Port St. Lucie residents are served by the St. Lucie County Tax Collector. The two city locations are the Walton Road Office and the Tradition Office, but property-tax payment, tag renewal and many record searches can be completed online.
This guide separates Tax Collector services from Property Appraiser records, explains morning appointments versus afternoon walk-ins, and shows what to prepare for property tax, DMV, driver-license, business-tax and career searches.

What do you need to finish today?
Use the official Tax Collector account portal and verify the property, tax year, discount amount and payment status.
Book a morning appointment or use the afternoon walk-in window. Check the transaction cutoff before driving.
Use the St. Lucie County Property Appraiser—not the Tax Collector—for values, exemptions, TRIM and property cards.
Prepare the right identity, address, title, registration or test documents and reserve an appointment when required.
Use the official careers and job-postings pages. A listed role may be an active vacancy or an advance-interest posting.
Request the current payoff or replacement-payment instructions rather than reusing an old bill amount.

Property-tax, DMV and returned-payment fees
| Transaction | Published fee | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| E-check for non-DMV services | $0.50 per transaction | Use a supported checking account and verify routing/account numbers. |
| E-check for DMV-related services | $1.00 per transaction | Do not confuse this with the property-tax e-check fee. |
| Credit card except online DHSMV renewals | 2.5% of the total charged | The fee grows with a large property-tax payment. |
| Online DHSMV registration renewal by card | $3.45 flat fee | This applies to the specified online registration-renewal route. |
| Returned amount | Service charge | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Less than $50 | $25 | Contact the office for replacement-payment instructions. |
| $50–$299.99 | $30 | Replace promptly so a tax or DMV deadline is not missed. |
| $300 or more | $40 | For motor-vehicle returned checks, the office directs customers to its payment-collection service. |
St. Lucie County discounts, deadlines and August 2026 status
| Period | Official rule | Practical action |
|---|---|---|
| Mid-August | Property Appraiser sends TRIM notices. | Review value, exemptions and the notice-specific VAB deadline. A TRIM notice is not the tax bill. |
| November | Tax collection begins; 4% early-payment discount. | Search the final bill and compare the displayed discounted amount. |
| December | 3% discount. | Pay the December amount shown on the bill. |
| January | 2% discount; January 31 homestead-tax-deferral deadline. | Do not confuse tax deferral with homestead exemption. |
| February | 1% discount. | Use the February discounted amount displayed. |
| March | No discount; taxes due in full by March 31. | Confirm posting before the deadline. |
| April 1 | Unpaid real-estate and tangible-property taxes become delinquent. | Request a current payoff rather than using the old bill. |
| May / June | Tangible-property warrants begin in May; real-estate tax-certificate sale begins on or before June 1 after advertising. | Use delinquent-tax instructions immediately. |
Important fields on a St. Lucie property-tax bill
| Bill field | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Account number | Unique identifier assigned to the property-tax account. | Use it for search, payment and support calls. |
| Amount-due boxes | Each box already reflects the discount for that payment period. | Pay one displayed amount; do not calculate another discount. |
| Delinquent-tax message | Back taxes are due. | Call 772-462-1650 for the current payoff. |
| Legal description | Property description supplied through assessment records. | Report an error to the Property Appraiser at 772-462-1000. |
| Property owner | Owner shown on the certified record. | If sold, forward the notice or return it and update the ownership record through the proper route. |
| Total taxes and assessments | Gross total before monthly discount selection. | Use the correct payment-period box when paying early. |
| Non-ad valorem assessment | Charge for services such as paving, stormwater or solid waste rather than value-based millage. | Contact the levying authority when disputing the service assessment. |
Partial payments, installment plan and tax deferral
Up to three partial payments may be made from November through March. Each partial payment must be at least $100.
No early-payment discount applies, and no partial payment is accepted after March 31.
Installments are due in June, September, December and March with published discounts on the first three installments.
The estimated annual tax must exceed $100 and the application deadline is April 30.
This program may postpone a portion of taxes for qualifying homesteaded owners whose income is low relative to the tax.
It is not the same as homestead exemption or an installment plan.

How to check St. Lucie Tax Collector career opportunities
Start on the Tax Collector careers page, then open Job Postings. The office describes work involving property taxes, vehicle/vessel services, driver licenses and business-tax administration.
Eligible employees may receive medical insurance, Florida Retirement System participation and identity-theft protection.
At the August 4, 2026 source review, the official job-postings page displayed a Customer Service Representative opportunity.
The careers page warns that some postings can remain available to collect advance interest even when there is no immediate vacancy.
Local business tax, tourist tax and public records
Businesses and professions located in St. Lucie County generally need a county Business Tax Receipt. Annual renewal begins in July and is due September 30; late penalties begin October 1.
The office administers the county tourist tax on qualifying short-term rental revenue. Use the dedicated official portal rather than the real-estate property-tax checkout.
The Tax Collector accepts requests in person, by phone, mail or email. The public-records custodian contact is separate from ordinary tax-payment support.
