Pay a Tax Bill or Find the Right Pawtucket Property Record

Pawtucket uses different systems for tax collection, assessment records and parcel maps. This guide shows which one to use before you pay, challenge a value, research a property or visit City Hall.

It also explains the current 2026 quarterly dates, FY2026 tax-rate table, old motor-vehicle Registry blocks, the completed 2026 tax sale and the new Rhode Island non-owner-occupied state tax.

Current 2026 deadline check: Pawtucket’s official 2026 City Calendar shows the first-quarter 2026 tax payment due July 15, 2026 and the second-quarter payment due October 15, 2026. As of August 20, the July installment has passed. The ordinary Payment Information webpage is still showing the older 2025–26 schedule, so use the 2026 calendar/current bill for dates and call Collections for an exact late payoff.

Tax Lien Warning

⛔ Texas Attorney Fee Warning: After July 1, delinquent property taxes are referred to a collection attorney. An additional 15–20% attorney fee is added on top of your penalty and interest. On a $5,000 tax bill, this adds $750–$1,000 instantly. Pay before July 1 to avoid this.

Which Pawtucket tax system do you actually need?

1
Bill, balance or payment

Use Tax Collections and the official RI.gov payment service for amount due, prior-year debt, payment posting, receipts and Registry releases.

2
Value or property record

Use the Tax Assessor and Vision database for assessed value, owner-of-record information, parcel identifiers, sales and building details.

3
Boundary or map research

Use MapGeo or Assessor plat maps for parcel boundaries, dimensions, zoning, abutters, flood/wetland layers and map context.

Most important distinction: a Vision/MapGeo record is not a live tax payoff or payment receipt. Likewise, Collections cannot change the assessed value simply because the bill seems high.

Official 2026 City Calendar

Pawtucket 2026 quarterly tax dates: what is due now?

July 15, 2026 — first quarter The City’s 2026 calendar marks this as “1ST QUARTER 2026 TAXES DUE.” Because that date has passed, an unpaid account may need a current interest-inclusive payoff.
October 15, 2026 — second quarter The official 2026 calendar places “2ND QUARTER 2026 TAXES DUE” on October 15. This is the next published quarterly date as of August 20, 2026.
Use your current bill for later quarters The City’s ordinary payment page has not yet been refreshed from the previous billing cycle. Follow the dates printed on the active bill rather than copying an old January/April schedule forward.
Late-payment interest: the City publishes interest at 13% per annum for delinquent real-estate, personal-property/tangible and motor-vehicle tax. Do not calculate an exact legal payoff from a generic online calculator; call Collections when the account is late.
Correct department

Pawtucket Tax Collector vs Tax Assessor

Route the question to the office that can resolve it
Your question Start with Why
How much tax do I owe? Tax Collector Bills, balances and collection status.
Did my payment post? Tax Collector Payment research and account-crediting questions.
Why is my value/classification wrong? Tax Assessor Determines value, class and assessment records.
Who is the owner of record? Assessor database / City Clerk Vision shows assessment ownership; recorded deeds answer legal title history.
Where is the parcel? MapGeo / Assessor plats Map tools show parcel geography, not current balance.
Is an exemption missing? Tax Assessor Eligibility and assessment adjustments are Assessor functions.
I have a Registry block. Tax Collector Old motor-vehicle payoff and clearance.
My business license has a tax block. Tax Collector + Assessor as needed Collector resolves delinquent tangible debt; Assessor corrects taxable business-property records.
Official payment workflow

How to pay Pawtucket RI taxes online safely

Start from the City or RI.gov route Pawtucket links tax payments to the official State of Rhode Island Pawtucket payment service. Avoid a search ad or generic third-party bill-pay page.
Have the account details ready The City says to have the Tax Account ID plus Plat/Lot for property accounts, or the applicable Tax Account ID and driver’s-license information for vehicle accounts.
Match the tax type and year Verify real estate, personal property/tangible or an old motor-vehicle account. Water payments use a separate City payment path.
Check prior-year debt before paying the current quarter Pawtucket states that prior-year taxes must be paid before current-year taxes. If the bill says “Prior Year Taxes Due,” get the current payoff first.
Review the payment fee Card and EFT charges differ. The final checkout should match the amount and payment method you intended.
Save proof until posting is confirmed Keep the tax year, account ID, amount, date, confirmation and bank/card record. A confirmation is useful, but verify that it landed on the intended account.
Cost and payment route

Pawtucket online fees, check timing and tax-sale payment limits

Currently published tax-payment rules
Method Published rule Micro-level caution
Credit card 2% convenience fee + $1 transaction fee A percentage fee becomes meaningful on a large real-estate bill.
Electronic check / EFT $1 transaction fee Verify routing/account numbers before submitting.
Telephone tax payment Not accepted The City says tax payments can no longer be made by telephone.
Bank bill-pay check Schedule at least 5 business days early Your bank’s “send” date is not necessarily the City’s receipt date.
Upcoming tax-sale account Certified funds / cashier’s check / cash may be required The City says an online payment is not certified funds.

Troubleshooting

Missing bill, escrow payment, wrong posting or prior-year balance

No bill arrived Contact Collections. The City explicitly says failure to receive a bill does not remove the obligation to pay tax and interest.
Bill says Prior Year Taxes Due Do not send only the newest coupon. The City says prior-year taxes must be paid before current-year taxes.
Mortgage company should pay The City FAQ says the lender requests the bill. If you receive it, forward it to the mortgage company with your loan number and still verify that payment posts.
Payment is missing Gather confirmation/check number, amount, date, account ID and tax year. Ask which account/quarter received the payment before submitting a duplicate.
The owner or mailing record is wrong Start with the Assessor/record office rather than asking Collections to change valuation data.
Bill is much higher than expected Separate rate/balance questions from assessment/classification questions before calling. The Collector cannot simply lower the assessed value.
Payment research call script “I’m calling about Pawtucket tax account [number], tax year [year]. I paid $[amount] on [date] by [method], confirmation/check [number]. Can you confirm which account and quarter received it and whether any balance remains?”
Assessor database search

How to search the Pawtucket RI Tax Assessor database

The City links to Vision Government Solutions for Pawtucket’s online assessment database. Use it for parcel and valuation research, not as proof that a current tax bill has been paid.

Open Vision from the City Assessor page This route confirms that you are using the Pawtucket assessment database rather than a similarly named property site.
Start with the cleanest property identifier Use the owner/location/parcel-style search options presented by the live database. Broaden the search if punctuation or formatting prevents a match.
Match more than the owner name Confirm location, MBLU/parcel identifier, account number and owner before relying on the record.
Read the valuation year Vision’s welcome page says its current displayed revaluation date is December 31, 2023. Individual cards can also show current owner/sale events that are newer than the valuation year.
Use the Sales / Print / Map tools as needed A property card can expose recorded sales history and links useful for parcel research, but it remains an assessment record.
Switch to Collections for money due When the question becomes “how much do I owe today?” or “did the payment post?”, stop using Vision and use the Collector/payment system.
Year mismatch is normal: Vision currently says the revaluation effective date shown in its database is December 31, 2023, while the state FY2026 municipal-rate table is based on a December 31, 2024 assessment date / 2025 tax roll. Do not combine an older database value and a newer rate without confirming the current assessed value with the Assessor.
Property-card decoder

How to read a Pawtucket Vision property record

Common fields and what they do — and do not — prove
Field What it means What to verify Next step
Location Street address tied to the assessment record. Match unit/address carefully. Use MapGeo when parcel location is unclear.
MBLU Map/block/lot/unit-style parcel identifier. Match the parcel, not only the owner name. Useful for Assessor/plat research.
Acct# / PID Database/account identifiers. Do not confuse database PID with a tax-payment confirmation. Keep identifiers when calling the Assessor.
Assessment / appraisal Recorded valuation for the displayed valuation year. Read the year before comparing it to a current bill. Assessor handles valuation questions.
Owner of record Ownership name maintained for assessment purposes. A recent deed may need separate recorded-document confirmation. Use City Clerk real-estate records for deed history.
Sale date / price / book & page Recorded transfer information when available. Not every transfer is a market sale. Use the recorded deed for legal details.
Building information Recorded physical characteristics used in assessment. Look for additions, demolitions, use or size errors. Report assessment-record errors to the Assessor.
Privacy and accuracy: public property records can display owner and mailing information. Use them responsibly. A public database record is not proof of who occupies the property, a legal survey, or a live tax payoff.
Assessor maps and GIS

Pawtucket Tax Assessor maps: MapGeo, plat maps or Vision?

Choose the mapping tool based on the question
Tool Best for Important limitation
MapGeo Parcel boundaries/dimensions, ownership and assessment data, abutters, zoning, flood/wetland areas, land use, elevations and aerial imagery. Not a survey or live payoff.
Assessor plat maps Plat-based parcel reference and older map-style research. Use current GIS/Assessor confirmation when boundaries matter legally.
Vision database Opening a property card, assessment, sale history and building data. Displayed valuation year may be older than the current tax roll.
City Clerk real-estate records Recorded deed/name research. Not an assessment or payment system.

What Pawtucket says MapGeo can show

The City’s mapping page lists address search, parcel boundaries and dimensions, owner/assessment information, abutter lists and mailing labels, zoning, flood zones, wetlands, land use, surface elevations, Google/RIGIS aerials, measurement tools and custom maps.

Official FY2026 state rate table

Pawtucket RI property tax rates for FY2026

The Rhode Island Division of Municipal Finance’s FY2026 tax-rate table is the strongest current published benchmark found in this audit. It labels the assessment date December 31, 2024 and Tax Roll Year 2025 and reports rates per $1,000 of assessed value.

FY2026 Pawtucket rates by broad property class
Class FY2026 rate per $1,000 Use it carefully
Residential real estate (RRE) $13.15 Confirm your current assessment/classification before estimating.
Commercial real estate (COMM) $23.01 Property class controls; mixed/multi-unit property may need Assessor confirmation.
Personal property (PP) $52.09 Used for taxable business/tangible property class.
Motor vehicle (MV) $0.00 Old unpaid motor-vehicle excise balances can still create Registry/collection problems.
Why some pages show $14.47 for non-owner-occupied real estate: Pawtucket’s own Tax Rates page lists a separate $14.47 non-owner-occupied rate, but that page is still headed “Tax Rates for 2024 Billing.” The state FY2026 table above is newer. For a current non-owner property, confirm the exact classification/rate on the bill or with the Assessor rather than mixing the two pages.

How to estimate without mistaking an estimate for your bill

For a rough class-rate estimate, divide assessed value by 1,000 and multiply by the applicable rate. That does not account for classification nuances, exemptions, special assessments, arrears, interest or state-level taxes. The bill/Collector controls the amount due.

Local classification

Pawtucket non-owner-occupied classification is not the same as Rhode Island’s new state tax

The Pawtucket Assessor says that as of July 2025 a local non-owner-occupied classification applies to specified residential property types, including mobile homes, condominiums and one- through five-family residential homes.

Pawtucket municipal classification

Affects how the City classifies local real estate. Questions about owner occupancy/classification belong to the Pawtucket Tax Assessor.

Rhode Island state tax

A separate state tax became effective July 1, 2026 for certain non-owner-occupied residential properties assessed above $1 million. It is administered by the RI Division of Taxation.

Do not assume one proves the other. A Pawtucket local classification and state non-owner tax liability use separate legal rules and payment systems.
Assessor applications

Pawtucket tax exemptions: deadline clues and documents to prepare

Pawtucket’s exemption page currently remains labeled for 2024 Billing, so this guide does not recycle those older dollar amounts as if they were 2026 values. The page is still useful for understanding the City’s application deadline and documentation clues.

Useful exemption preparation details from the City
Program Document/condition clue What to do
Veteran City instructs applicants to bring DD-214 separation papers. Verify current eligibility/value with Assessor.
100% service-connected veteran VA documentation and residential owner-occupancy conditions. Bring current VA proof.
Disability / handicap City describes an updated award certificate and owner-occupancy requirements. Ask exactly what current proof is accepted.
Elderly Age 65+, owner-occupied residential property; City page describes a maximum three-unit property and one per household. Confirm current program terms before applying.
Blind Ophthalmologist documentation; City’s page treats this as the exception to its general in-person application rule. Confirm delivery method with Assessor.
Historic National Register/local historic-district and owner-occupancy conditions are described. Confirm current qualification first.
Published application deadline: the City page says exemption applications are due March 15 and are generally handled in person except for the blind exemption. Because the page’s dollar values are labeled 2024 Billing, verify the current amount and filing instructions before relying on it.
Old motor-vehicle debt

Pawtucket Registry block: how to get tax clearance

Rhode Island phased out the recurring motor-vehicle excise tax, but older Pawtucket balances can still cause a Registry block.

Call before paying Ask Collections for every delinquent and current motor-vehicle balance associated with the block.
Pay the required balance in full The City’s FAQ says all delinquent and current motor-vehicle tax balances must be fully paid.
Use the required funds for immediate clearance The City lists cash, money order or certified bank check for this clearance route.
Personal check creates a delay Pawtucket says it cannot provide a release for 15 business days after personal-check payment unless you provide bank proof that the check cleared.
Ask how the release will be delivered The City can provide a clearance for the Registry or email a release to remove the block for renewal purposes only.
Registry call script “I have a Pawtucket Registry block. Please confirm every tax balance that must be paid for clearance, the exact amount today, the payment method required for immediate release and whether the release will be emailed or handed to me.”
State refund offset

What to do if Rhode Island offsets your refund for Pawtucket debt

Pawtucket’s Collector FAQ discusses the Rhode Island Income Tax Refund Offset Program (ITOP), which can redirect a state income-tax refund toward qualifying outstanding government debt.

You recently paid the tax

Keep the payment proof. If the state refund is also intercepted and creates a City credit, Pawtucket says a resulting credit balance can be refunded.

You already have a payment arrangement

Do not assume a refund offset automatically satisfies the entire balance. Confirm what remains with the office/collection party handling the account.

State vs City: the state controls the income-tax refund; Pawtucket Collections can explain the City debt/credit posted to the municipal account.
Business taxpayers

Tangible property tax, business-license blocks and a closed business

You only need to pay the tangible bill Use Collections/RI.gov and confirm the tax account/year before paying.
You dispute equipment/property value Use the Tax Assessor. Collection staff cannot change the underlying tangible assessment.
Your business license is blocked The Collector FAQ says all delinquent tangible taxes must be paid in full before the tax-related license block can be released.
The business closed, sold or moved The Assessor page provides an Affidavit of Business Closing, Selling or Moving so the assessment record can be updated.
Do both jobs when needed: paying a delinquent tangible bill resolves collection debt; filing the Assessor’s closure/move information helps prevent the property record from remaining wrong in a later assessment cycle.
New Rhode Island tax · 2026

Rhode Island Non-Owner Occupied Property Tax: September 15 deadline

This is a state tax, separate from Pawtucket’s municipal property bill. It became effective July 1, 2026 and generally applies to residential property assessed above $1 million that is not the owner’s primary residence under the state rules.

2026 Rhode Island state non-owner tax basics
Rule State guidance User action
Threshold Residential assessed value greater than $1,000,000. Use the assessment value specified by state rules for the tax year.
Primary-residence test Owner generally occupies the property at least 183 days during the privilege year. Review the state’s documentation/exemption FAQs if classification seems wrong.
Rate $2.50 per $500 (or fraction) of assessed value above $1,000,000. Do not add this to the Pawtucket City bill manually; use the state notice/portal.
2026 assessed-value basis For the tax year beginning July 1, 2026, the state says it uses residential assessed value as of December 31, 2024. A later assessment appeal does not automatically change this first tax year’s base.
Installments September 15, December 15, March 15 and June 15. First 2026 payment is due September 15, 2026; full payment may also be made by that date.
Where to pay Rhode Island Division of Taxation / RI Tax Portal. Do not send this state tax to Pawtucket City Collections.

Rental exemptions can change whether the state tax applies

The Division publishes separate exemption rules for qualifying long-term rentals under written leases and qualifying short-term rental situations. Owners who receive a state notice but believe the property is a primary residence or exempt should use the state review/document route rather than asking the Pawtucket Collector to remove the state tax.

Scam warning: the Rhode Island Division of Taxation says it does not text taxpayers about a balance due or refund owed. Do not provide banking or sensitive information in response to a tax text.
Official 2026 tax-sale PDF

Pawtucket’s June 11, 2026 tax sale has already passed

The City’s official Collector’s Sale notice scheduled the 2026 sale for June 11, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at the Pawtucket Municipal Annex, 100 Freight Street, 2nd Floor temporary Council Chambers. The notice required cash, certified check or money order for the sale.

Do not treat the PDF as an upcoming payment deadline. It is now a historical sale notice. A listed property may have been paid before sale, actually sold, or have a different post-sale status. Call Collections for the current property-specific status.

If your property appeared in the 2026 advertisement

Confirm whether the parcel was actually sold The notice states that properties whose taxes/assessments were paid in full before sale would not be auctioned.
Get the current amount/status from Collections Have the parcel/plat information and property address ready. Do not rely on an old advertised amount.
Do not use an ordinary online payment without confirmation Tax-sale/post-sale accounts can require a different payoff and funds.
Get qualified legal advice when redemption rights are involved The notice describes a one-year redemption framework plus later court foreclosure/redemption stages under Rhode Island law. Those rights are property-specific and time-sensitive.
What the dated notice says: where applicable, redemption generally involves the tax-sale amount, a 10% penalty, and an additional 1% per month from the seventh month onward, subject to Rhode Island law and later court proceedings. Use this only as general notice context—not a homemade payoff calculation.
Search-intent clarification

Pawtucket RI sales tax rate: 7% statewide

Rhode Island’s general sales tax is 7% of gross receipts from taxable retail sales. Sales/use tax is administered by the Rhode Island Division of Taxation—not Pawtucket’s municipal Tax Collector payment portal.

General taxable sale

State sales tax: 7% when the product/service is taxable under Rhode Island law.

Eating/drinking establishment

The RI Division of Taxation also states that eating and drinking establishments must collect the separate 1% local meals and beverage tax.

Do not mix tax systems: the 7% sales-tax rate does not estimate a Pawtucket property-tax bill, and a Pawtucket property mill rate does not apply to ordinary retail sales.

Pawtucket RI Tax Collector and Assessor FAQs

How do I pay Pawtucket RI taxes online?

Use the official State of Rhode Island Pawtucket tax-payment service linked by the City. Verify the tax account, tax type, year and amount before submitting. Pawtucket currently lists a 2% convenience fee plus $1 per transaction for credit cards and a $1 transaction fee for EFT.

When is the next Pawtucket tax payment due in 2026?

The official 2026 City Calendar shows first-quarter 2026 taxes due July 15 and second-quarter 2026 taxes due October 15. As of August 20, the next published quarterly date is October 15, 2026. Use the current bill for later-quarter dates and call Collections if an earlier installment is unpaid.

Where is the Pawtucket Tax Collector and what are the hours?

Tax Collections is at Pawtucket City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, 1st Floor, Room 110, Pawtucket, RI 02860. City Hall public hours are Monday–Wednesday 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Thursday 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m., unless otherwise posted.

How do I search the Pawtucket RI Tax Assessor database?

Use the City-linked Vision Government Solutions Pawtucket database. Match the location, owner, MBLU/parcel information and account identifiers, then read the valuation year before using the assessment. Vision is an assessment database, not a live Collector payoff or payment receipt.

Why does the Pawtucket Vision database show a 2023 valuation year?

Vision currently states that its displayed statistical revaluation was effective December 31, 2023. Current ownership or sales can be newer than the valuation year. For a current assessed value tied to a current bill, confirm with the Tax Assessor rather than blindly combining the 2023 Vision value with a newer tax rate.

Where can I find Pawtucket RI Tax Assessor maps?

Use Pawtucket’s City Maps/MapGeo resources for parcel boundaries, dimensions, ownership and assessment data, abutters, zoning, flood/wetland information, land use, elevations and aerial imagery. The Assessor page also links to official plat maps.

What is the Pawtucket RI property tax rate for FY2026?

The Rhode Island Division of Municipal Finance FY2026 table lists Pawtucket at $13.15 per $1,000 for residential real estate, $23.01 for commercial real estate, $52.09 for personal property and $0.00 for motor vehicles. Confirm the current property classification and assessment before estimating a bill.

How do I clear a Pawtucket Registry block for old motor-vehicle taxes?

Pawtucket says all delinquent and current motor-vehicle tax balances tied to the block must be paid in full. For immediate clearance, the City lists cash, money order or certified bank check. Personal-check payments delay release for 15 business days unless bank proof shows the check has cleared.

What is Rhode Island’s new 2026 non-owner-occupied property tax?

It is a separate state tax effective July 1, 2026 on certain residential properties assessed above $1 million that are not primary residences under the state rules. The rate is $2.50 per $500 of assessed value above $1 million, with installments due September 15, December 15, March 15 and June 15. Pay through Rhode Island, not Pawtucket City Collections.

What is the Pawtucket RI sales tax rate?

Rhode Island’s general sales tax is 7% on taxable retail sales. It is administered by the Rhode Island Division of Taxation rather than the Pawtucket municipal Tax Collector. Eating and drinking establishments also have a separate 1% local meals and beverage tax under Rhode Island rules.
