Leon County property tax payment options and current fees

The Tax Collector currently lists several ways to pay. The fee depends on the payment channel, so do not assume the in-office debit or credit-card fee is the same as the online property-tax fee.

Do not mix tax years

As of September 2026, the official Tax Collector’s download page identifies the 2025 real-property tax roll as of September 1, 2026. That does not mean a 2026 property-tax bill has already been issued. When paying, use the tax year and balance displayed in the official account system.

If you do not receive a tax notice, the responsibility to determine the amount due and pay on time does not disappear. The official Tax Collector advises taxpayers to obtain a copy through the website or contact the office when a notice is missing.

Leon County property tax payment plans

Leon County provides several payment-plan routes, but eligibility and deadlines differ. Do not treat an installment plan as an automatic extension of the normal annual due date.

Installment plan

The official materials describe a four-payment property-tax installment program. The application is time-sensitive, and the plan uses estimated taxes before the final tax liability is known.

Partial payment

The Tax Collector describes a partial-payment option for current taxes during the applicable November 1–March 31 period. It is subject to its own application and payment rules.

Deferred payment

A deferred-payment option exists for taxpayers who satisfy applicable statutory and program requirements. Eligibility can involve property, insurance and income factors.

Need a payment plan?

Read the current official plan instructions before relying on an older brochure or previous year’s dates. The Tax Collector publishes applications and supporting information through its property-tax section.

Leon County Tax Collector appointments

The current official appointment page states that appointments are required for all services. It also provides dedicated appointment paths for specialty services.

  1. Identify the exact service Decide whether you need property tax, motor vehicle, driver license, title, registration, general service or a specialty service.
  2. Check for a specialty appointment Concealed weapons, Hazmat and road skills testing have dedicated appointment routes.
  3. Select the correct service center Use Metropolitan for concealed weapons, Lake Jackson for Hazmat and Southside for road skills testing.
  4. Save the confirmation Keep the appointment details on your phone and review the service-specific instructions.
  5. Prepare your documents Bring the identification, tax notice, account information or service-specific paperwork required for your transaction.

Property tax does not always require an office visit

If your only task is to search or pay a property-tax account, the official online tax system may save a trip to Tallahassee. Use the online route when it meets your needs and keep your payment confirmation.

Leon County Tax Collector vs Property Appraiser vs Clerk

This is one of the most important distinctions on a local tax page. A property tax bill can involve several government offices, but they do not perform the same job.

Send your question to the office that controls the record

Tax Collector Tax payment, receipts, tax-roll collection, delinquent payment questions, payment plans and related collection services.
Property Appraiser Assessed value, exemptions, property characteristics and changes to owner/name/address information on the assessment record.
Clerk of Court Recorded court/land records and tax-deed auction processes that are separate from ordinary tax payment.
Florida state agencies State-level rules and specialized services that are outside the county Tax Collector’s local collection role.
Your problem Best starting office Why
How much property tax do I owe? Tax Collector The collector handles the tax bill and payment record.
Did my payment post? Tax Collector Payment status belongs with the collection office.
Why is the assessed value wrong? Property Appraiser The Property Appraiser determines assessment information.
My exemption is missing Property Appraiser Exemptions are handled through the assessment office.
My property name or mailing address is wrong Property Appraiser The Tax Collector states that tax-roll changes must be processed by the Property Appraiser.
I need tax-deed auction records Clerk / official tax-deed system A tax deed is a separate legal and auction process.

Leon County delinquent property taxes

Leon County states that real-property taxes become delinquent April 1 following the year in which they are assessed. Delinquent accounts can accumulate additional statutory charges, including interest and collection-related costs.

Real estate tax

The official Tax Collector information describes delinquency beginning April 1 and explains that delinquent balances can involve a delinquency fee, advertising fee, 1.5% monthly interest and statutory collection costs.

Tax certificate process

Delinquent real-estate taxes can move into the tax-certificate process. A tax certificate represents a lien interest; it does not itself transfer ownership of the property.

Do not treat a tax certificate as property ownership

The official Leon County tax-search disclaimer specifically warns that paying delinquent taxes or purchasing a county-held certificate does not make the purchaser the real-estate owner. Tax-deed acquisition is a separate process through the Clerk of Court.

If you are trying to resolve a delinquent balance, use the official tax system or contact the Tax Collector for the current amount. Do not rely on an old screenshot or an old year’s balance because delinquent charges can change over time.
