Which Anderson County tax task do you need?

1
Pay or check a bill

Use ACPASS, confirm the tax year and account, then pay or save the current balance.

2
Fix value or 4% classification

Use the Assessor. Paying the Treasurer does not correct a wrong appraisal or legal-residence classification.

3
Vehicle, lost bill or homestead help

Start with the Auditor, then pay the resulting bill through the Treasurer.

Useful rule: “How do I pay?” = Treasurer. “Why is the real-property value/classification wrong?” = Assessor. “Why is my vehicle bill wrong, I lost the bill, or I need Homestead help?” = Auditor.

Official online workflow

How to search and pay an Anderson County tax bill

Open ACPASS from the county route ACPASS is Anderson County’s public-access system for tax records and online tax payment. Starting there avoids private payment lookalikes.
Identify the record before choosing “pay” Check the owner, TMS/tax-map number, property or vehicle information, bill year and current status.
For real property, search narrowly only after a broad search works The county’s Assessor instructions say property records can be searched by owner name, Tax Map/TMS number or street name.
Confirm the tax district Your tax district affects the levy. ACPASS property information displays the district so you can explain why another nearby property may have a different total.
Check whether the bill is current or already delinquent After the penalty dates, an old printed amount can be wrong. Use the current county record or call before mailing a late payment.
Review the payment method Cards are accepted for tax payment, but the Treasurer says convenience fees apply. The official page does not publish a single universal fee amount, so review the live checkout screen.
Save proof Keep the ACPASS confirmation, paid receipt, check image or counter receipt until the correct tax year clearly shows paid.
Do not pay twice. If a payment was just submitted but the record has not updated, use your confirmation or check information when calling the Treasurer instead of immediately sending another payment.

Real-property deadline

January 15 due date and South Carolina penalty stages

Anderson County says real-property tax notices are mailed October 1 and payment is due in full on or before January 15 of the following year. South Carolina law supplies the standard penalty stages used after the due date.

October 1 — bills mailed Real estate notices and several other annual property-tax notices are mailed in the fall.
January 15 — pay in full Use your bill and ACPASS to verify the amount before the first penalty date.
January 16 — first penalty stage South Carolina law provides a 3% penalty when the tax remains unpaid, subject to the statutory “30 days after mailing, whichever is later” rule.
February 2 — total penalty reaches 10% An additional 7% is added under the state penalty schedule.
March 17 — total penalty reaches 15% An additional 5% applies, and unpaid taxes move into tax-execution/delinquent collection procedures.
Use the live amount, not a homemade calculator. Special notices, later mailing dates, rollback bills and account-specific collection costs can change the amount or deadline. The Treasurer explicitly tells taxpayers to use the tax notice or contact the office for the correct amount due.
Mailed payments: South Carolina law uses the U.S. Postal Service postmark as the determining date for mailed property-tax payments. Keep proof if mailing close to the deadline.
Official levy PDF

Why two Anderson County property-tax bills can be different

A countywide rate is only part of a tax bill. School district, city, fire, sewer, watershed, special-service and other district components can change the total levy.

County levy reference

The official 2025 levy sheet itemizes a county levy total of 0.08370.

Districts differ

The 2025 sheet shows different total levy figures by tax district; do not copy a neighbor’s rate onto your parcel.

Household solid-waste fee

The 2025 levy sheet lists a $110 solid-waste special fee for all households.

2025 PDF ≠ 2026 payoff. The levy sheet is useful for understanding bill structure, but it is not a current 2026 payment quote. Use the tax district shown in ACPASS and the live tax record for the amount due.

The official levy PDF is useful when you need to understand why a city, school, fire or special-service component appears on a particular property.

Tax relief and classification

Homestead, agricultural use and other important deadlines

Do not confuse these programs
Issue Office / rule Micro-help
4% Legal Residence Assessor Apply for your qualifying domicile; this is separate from Homestead.
Homestead Exemption Auditor County guidance says it excludes the first $50,000 of fair-market value for an eligible legal residence.
Agricultural Use Value Assessor January 15 is the listed annual deadline; filing earlier helps prevent an inaccurate initial bill.
25% ATI exemption Assessor January 30 is the county-listed deadline for transfers occurring in the prior year.
Multiple-lot discount Assessor May 1 is the listed initial-application deadline.
Assessment appeal Assessor Read the deadline printed on the assessment notice; many late-summer/fall notices carry a 90-day appeal window.
Agricultural rollback warning: Anderson County says a change from qualifying agricultural use can result in rollback taxes for up to three years, depending on how long the property carried the classification.
Vehicle-tax micro help

Vehicle tax, registration, high mileage and refunds

South Carolina vehicle property taxes must be paid before registration. The Auditor helps create or correct the vehicle tax bill; the Treasurer collects it.

New SC registration

The Auditor says bring an out-of-state registration, title or bill of sale when registering a vehicle in South Carolina for the first time.

30+ days unpaid

The Treasurer warns that a notice may be sent to SCDMV to suspend the driver’s license and/or registration. If suspension is already in place, SCDMV reinstatement fees can also apply.

Old vehicle off the road

The Auditor FAQ says Anderson County can charge up to 10 years from the current year depending on how long the vehicle was off the road.

High-mileage appeal before the due date

Apply before the tax due date
Online/email submissions are not accepted after 4:00 p.m. on the due date
Allow one business day for processing
Provide an odometer photo or service receipt
Vehicles over 15 years old do not qualify under the county page
Motorcycles, campers and motor homes do not qualify
Sold, traded, totaled or moved out of state? The Auditor publishes refund-document checklists. A refund generally requires time remaining on the tag and documentation such as the original DMV 5051 form plus the applicable sale, insurance, title or out-of-state registration proof.
Current 2026 notice

Anderson County 2026 tax sale: current dates and what not to confuse

Sale date

Monday, October 19, 2026

Location

Civic Center of Anderson
3027 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd
Anderson, SC 29625

Listing / bidder information

The county says online bidder registration, property listings and property maps are scheduled to become available beginning September 30, 2026.

As of August 13, 2026, do not use a 2025 list as the 2026 property list. The county’s current notice points to September 30 for 2026 bidder/listing information.
Tax sale vs foreclosure sale: The Treasurer’s tax sale is not the same as a Master-in-Equity foreclosure sale. If your paperwork references a foreclosure case or Master’s Sale, follow the court/Master-in-Equity process rather than assuming the annual Treasurer tax-sale rules apply.
