Late interest, minimum charges and back-tax priority
Past-due taxes are subject to 1.5% per month from the original due date, up to 18% per year. A partial month counts as a full month.
For a July 1 tax installment, paying after the grace period can mean two months of interest immediately because July and August both count.
Trumbull lists a $2 minimum interest charge for delinquent property/motor-vehicle taxes and a $5 minimum for delinquent sewer assessments.
The Collector says statutory interest cannot be waived.
Trumbull allows partial tax payments
If you cannot pay the entire eligible bill, Trumbull explicitly permits partial tax payments. Paying something can reduce the principal on which additional interest builds, but it does not erase delinquency rules.
Immediate DMV clearance: call before choosing a payment method
Motor-vehicle clearance is the Trumbull task where payment method and timing matter most. Do not assume an online receipt immediately removes a DMV block.
