This page is built around those real tasks so the user does not have to jump between multiple municipal pages.

How to Pay Trumbull CT Taxes Online, by Mail or In Person
Trumbull tax payments can be made online, by mail, or in person. The safe workflow is to identify the bill type first, verify the amount, then choose the payment method.

Save proof before closing the page
Download or screenshot the confirmation, bill number, amount, date, and payment method. If you need DMV release, call the office after card payment.

Trumbull Tax Due Dates, Grace Period Risk and Delinquent Interest
Trumbull lists different due-date schedules for real estate, motor vehicle, personal property, sewer assessment, sewer use and supplemental motor vehicle bills.
Real estate taxes
Real estate taxes are due quarterly: July 1, October 1, January 1 and April 1.
Motor vehicle taxes
Motor vehicle taxes are due semi-annually: July 1 and January 1 for vehicles registered as of October 1.
Personal property taxes
Business personal property taxes are due semi-annually: July 1 and January 1.
Sewer assessment
Sewer assessment bills are due quarterly: July 1, October 1, January 1 and April 1.
Sewer use
Sewer use is billed quarterly based on actual consumption in February, May, August and November.
Interest
Delinquent taxes, sewer use and assessments are subject to 1.5% per month, or 18% per year, from the original due date.
Minimum interest matters
The town’s current notices list a minimum interest charge of $2.00 for property tax and motor vehicle delinquency examples, and a $5.00 minimum interest charge for sewer assessment examples. Do not assume a small bill means no penalty.
Failure to receive a bill is not an excuse
Trumbull states that failure to receive a bill does not exempt the taxpayer from payment of tax or penalty. If you moved, changed mailing address, sold a car, changed garage location or paid off a mortgage, verify your bill status directly instead of waiting for mail.
Trumbull Motor Vehicle Tax Clearance and DMV Release Rules
If you owe delinquent motor vehicle taxes, you may not be able to renew a registration or driver’s license until all outstanding vehicle taxes in your name are paid.
This is one of the most important parts of the Trumbull Tax Collector page because the wrong payment method can delay DMV clearance. If you need an immediate release, do not simply pay by e-check and assume DMV will clear you instantly.
Call to verify the amount due
For immediate DMV clearance, call 203-452-5024 before paying. Confirm the exact amount due and ask which payment method will produce the release you need.
Use the correct payment method
Trumbull says immediate motor vehicle clearance requires payment in the office by cash, certified check, or approved card path. Online credit/debit card payment can be released the same day only if you call the office after payment.
Do not use e-check for immediate release
The town specifically warns not to use the e-check option if you need immediate DMV clearance. E-check and personal check payments have a 10-business-day hold before release.
All vehicle taxes in your name must be paid
All outstanding vehicle taxes in your name, including taxes not yet delinquent, must be paid for a release to be issued. This includes the January installment.
Mailing Trumbull Tax Payments and Bank Bill-Pay Warning
Tax payments can be mailed to the Trumbull Tax Collector, but the payment method and postmark rules matter.
Mailing address
Mail payments to Trumbull Tax Collector, 5866 Main Street, Trumbull, CT 06611. Make checks payable to Trumbull Tax Collector.
USPS postmark rule
The town states that the U.S. postmark is honored as the date of payment. Do not rely on private postage meters or bank-created dates unless the town confirms treatment.
Bank bill-pay risk
Bank bill-pay checks may arrive without a postmark and must be received by the Tax Collector by the last day to pay. Trumbull recommends setting bank payments at least two weeks before the deadline.
Do not mail cash
No cash is accepted through the mail. The town also states there is no drop box for tax payments for safety and security reasons.

Trumbull Fire Tax Bills Are Not Paid to the Town Tax Collector
This is a high-risk mistake for Trumbull taxpayers: fire tax payments cannot be processed by the Trumbull Tax Collector office at Town Hall.
Trumbull says fire tax bills are issued annually in July by one of three Fire District Tax Collectors: Long Hill, Nichols, or Trumbull Center. Fire tax information is not available at the Trumbull Tax Collector’s office, and fire tax payments cannot be accepted there. Payments that include a fire tax payment can be returned.
Do not send fire tax with town tax
Fire tax bills must be paid directly to the correct fire district collector for the property’s district.
Check your district
Your fire district may be Long Hill, Nichols or Trumbull Center. Use the bill or official fire tax page to find the right contact.
Use official fire tax links
Do not guess based on neighborhood name alone. Use the official Trumbull fire tax information page before paying.
Common Trumbull Tax Bill Problems and What to Do Next
Most Trumbull tax problems come from due-date timing, DMV release needs, wrong office routing, bank bill-pay delays, fire tax confusion, or old motor vehicle registration details.
Bill not received
Use the official online tax bill search or call the office. Failure to receive a bill does not remove responsibility for tax or penalty.
Moved or sold vehicle
Contact the Tax Assessor and provide required documentation for motor vehicle adjustment or transfer questions.
DMV blocked
Pay all outstanding vehicle taxes in your name and call the Tax Collector to confirm the release path. E-check is not for immediate clearance.
Bank payment late
Bank bill-pay checks may not carry a USPS postmark and must be received by the deadline. Send early or use another verified method.
Fire tax returned
Fire tax payments sent to the town Tax Collector can be returned. Pay the correct fire district collector directly.
Need printed payment history
Taxpayers can view and print payment information online. If the office prints it for you, the town notes a fee of $1 per page.
