Vero Beach tax payments, branch hours and local office routing
If you are searching for the Vero Beach Tax Collector, the official office is Carole Jean Jordan, Indian River County Tax Collector. Vero Beach has three Tax Collector locations, so the best branch depends on whether you are near the County Administration Complex, west of town or beachside.
This guide explains where to pay property taxes, when you can skip an appointment, which office has drive-thru service, the September 2026 installment deadline, online payment fees, delinquent-tax rules and when you should call the Property Appraiser or Clerk instead.
Who is the Vero Beach Tax Collector?
The office collecting Vero Beach and Indian River County property taxes is the Indian River County Tax Collector. The Tax Collector receives the certified tax roll, sends tax bills, accepts payments and handles delinquent-tax collection, but does not decide your property’s assessed value or approve homestead exemption.
Property-tax bills, payment, paid receipts, installment payments, tax deferral applications, delinquent taxes, tax certificates, vehicle services and county Local Business Tax.
Parcel records, assessed and taxable value, ownership information, exemptions, homestead eligibility and property characteristics.
Deeds, mortgages, official records and tax-deed proceedings after a delinquent tax certificate reaches the tax-deed stage.
What Vero Beach taxpayers should know right now
September falls just before the regular Florida property-tax billing season. Indian River County tax bills are generally mailed by November 1, so a taxpayer who is not already in the installment plan will normally wait for the 2026 annual roll before the standard November discount period begins.
The second quarterly installment is due September 30. It equals one-quarter of the estimated taxes based on the prior-year amount and carries a 4.5% discount when paid or postmarked by September 30.
The 2026 installment-plan application deadline was April 30, 2026. You cannot join the 2026 plan in September simply because the second installment is now due.
Watch for the 2026 tax bill around the beginning of November. November is normally the 4% early-payment discount month.
Those taxes became delinquent April 1, 2026 and may already have moved into the tax-certificate process. Use the live balance, not the old November bill.
Main, West and Oceanside Tax Collector offices
All three Vero Beach locations are part of the same Indian River County Tax Collector’s Office. The practical choice is mostly geography and drive-thru availability.
| Office | Address | Convenience | Useful note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main Office | 1800 27th Street, Building B, Vero Beach, FL 32960 | County Administration Complex | Drive-thru available; broad service mix including property tax and driver-license services. |
| West Office | 1860 82nd Avenue, Suite 102, Vero Beach, FL 32966 | Western Vero Beach | Drive-thru available, including selected services during the noon lunch closure. |
| Oceanside Office | 3003 Cardinal Drive, Suite C, Vero Beach, FL 32963 | Beachside / barrier-island area | Useful if you are already east of the lagoon; no drive-thru is listed. |
| Sebastian Office | 1921 U.S. Highway 1, Sebastian, FL 32958 | North Indian River County | Another county Tax Collector location for residents closer to Sebastian. |
Vero Beach Tax Collector hours and the noon closure
The regular schedule has one easy-to-miss wrinkle: the offices close for lunch from noon to 1 PM, but the Main and West drive-thrus remain available during that hour for listed transactions such as property-tax payments, registration renewals/replacements and parking placards.
| Day | Office counter hours | Noon rule |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | 8 AM-12 PM and 1-5 PM | Offices close 12-1; Main/West drive-thru remains available for eligible transactions. |
| Tuesday | 8 AM-12 PM and 1-5 PM | Same noon closure. |
| Wednesday | 8:40 AM-12 PM and 1-5 PM | Wednesday opens later than the other weekdays. |
| Thursday | 8 AM-12 PM and 1-5 PM | Same noon closure. |
| Friday | 8 AM-12 PM and 1-5 PM | Same noon closure. |
Do you need an appointment at the Vero Beach Tax Collector?
The answer depends on the task. The Tax Collector’s current FAQ specifically says property-tax payments do not require an appointment. Most other in-person services do.
No appointment is required. You can pay through the online system, walk into an office, use an eligible drive-thru or use other accepted payment methods.
Schedule an appointment for driver-license, title and many other counter transactions. The office lets taxpayers arrange appointments online and can help by phone, chat or email.
No appointment is required to surrender a plate. You can walk into any office, use the Main or West drive-thru or mail the plate following official instructions.
How to pay Indian River County property taxes online
For most Vero Beach homeowners, the fastest route is the Tax Collector’s official property-tax payment center. Start from IRCTax.com or the county-authorized payment search rather than a search ad or unrelated third-party payment website.
Use the payment link provided by the Indian River County Tax Collector website.
Match the parcel/account, taxpayer information, property location and tax year. If the search result is ambiguous, stop and verify with the Property Appraiser or Tax Collector.
If the current bill says “BACK TAXES REMAIN UNPAID,” contact the Tax Department for the current delinquent amount before assuming the new annual bill is the whole balance.
E-check is currently fee-free. Card and digital-wallet payments have a 2.75% third-party service fee.
Confirm the tax year, discount, delinquent status, account and processor fee before making the payment final.
The Tax Collector says paid receipts can be printed from the payment center after the payment has been processed.
E-check, card, mail, office, drive-thru and drop box
| Method | Current rule | Useful local note |
|---|---|---|
| Online e-check | Fee-free. | Usually the lowest-cost electronic payment route. |
| Online credit/debit card | 2.75% third-party service fee. | Review the total convenience fee before submitting a large tax payment. |
| PayPal / Google Pay / Apple Pay | 2.75% third-party service fee. | Convenient, but not fee-free. |
| In-office check / cashier’s check / money order | No service fee for eligible payments. | Delinquent taxes require certified funds; personal checks are not accepted for delinquent taxes. |
| In-office PIN debit | $2.75 third-party fee. | Different fee structure from a standard credit-card transaction. |
| In-office credit card | 2.75% third-party fee. | Consider the dollar cost of the percentage fee before paying a large annual bill. |
| Send bill stub and check in U.S. funds. | Mail to Carole Jean Jordan, Tax Collector, PO Box 1509, Vero Beach, FL 32961-1509. | |
| Drive-thru / drop box | Main and West have drive-thru; drop boxes are available outside all four offices. | Main and West drive-thru remain open during the normal 12-1 office lunch closure for listed services. |
Indian River County early-payment discounts
Florida property taxes are paid in arrears. Indian River County mails the annual real-estate tax bill by about November 1, and the early-payment discount falls month by month until the gross bill is due in March.
| Payment month | Discount | Vero Beach taxpayer note |
|---|---|---|
| November | 4% | Largest standard early-payment discount. |
| December | 3% | Discount decreases by one percentage point. |
| January | 2% | Check the account if a mortgage company normally pays for you. |
| February | 1% | Final regular discount month. |
| March | 0% | Gross taxes are due without an early-payment discount. |
| April 1 | Delinquent | Unpaid taxes move into the delinquent-tax process. |
Four-payment property-tax installment schedule
Eligible taxpayers with an estimated tax bill greater than $100 can apply in advance for Florida’s quarterly installment plan. Enrollment happens before the installment year begins; you cannot wait for the November annual bill and then retroactively switch that same year’s taxes to installments.
| Installment | Due | Discount / result |
|---|---|---|
| First | June | 6% discount. Missing June can affect plan participation; Florida law allows a July catch-up without the 6% discount. |
| Second | September 30 | 4.5% discount when timely paid or postmarked. |
| Third | December 31 | 3% discount and adjustment for the newly certified tax roll. |
| Fourth | March 31 | No discount; unpaid balance becomes delinquent April 1. |
Tax Collector search vs Property Appraiser search
The word “property search” can mean either a tax-payment record or a parcel/assessment record. Indian River County maintains separate systems for those jobs.
Use for amount due, tax-payment status, annual bill, delinquent status and paid receipts.
Use for parcel ID, owner record, property location, legal information, assessed value, taxable value, exemptions and property characteristics.
Use for deeds, mortgages, liens and other recorded real-property documents. Property deeds are not maintained by the Tax Collector.
Tax Collector vs Property Appraiser vs Clerk
| Your question | Correct starting office | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| How much do I owe? | Tax Collector | The Collector has the current payment record and tax balance. |
| I need a paid tax receipt. | Tax Collector | Paid receipts come from the tax-payment system. |
| Why is my assessed value so high? | Property Appraiser | The Tax Collector does not establish property value. |
| I need homestead exemption. | Property Appraiser | Exemptions affect taxable value before the roll reaches the Tax Collector. |
| I need a deed or mortgage record. | Clerk of Court | The Clerk maintains Indian River County Official Records. |
| My tax certificate reached tax deed. | Tax Collector + Clerk | The certificate originates through tax collection; the Clerk conducts tax-deed sales. |
What happens after an Indian River County real-estate tax becomes delinquent?
Real-estate taxes become delinquent April 1 of the year after the tax year. For example, unpaid 2025 property taxes became delinquent April 1, 2026.
A 3% penalty is added to the gross real-estate tax when the account becomes delinquent.
Remaining unpaid accounts receive advertising costs and are advertised weekly for three consecutive weeks.
If still unpaid, a tax certificate constituting a first lien against the real property must be sold according to Florida law.
Confirm whether the parcel is simply delinquent or whether a tax certificate was sold.
Use 772-226-1343 for delinquent real-estate tax questions and current payoff assistance.
The office states that in-person delinquent-tax payments require certified funds; personal checks are not accepted for delinquent taxes.
A tax-certificate holder can later apply for a tax deed under Florida law. The Clerk conducts the tax-deed sale.
Property-tax deferral may be available to qualifying homestead owners
Florida law provides a separate tax-deferral program for certain owners who qualify for homestead exemption and satisfy income, age, equity, insurance and lien requirements. Deferral is not forgiveness: deferred taxes and interest become a priority lien against the property.
The Indian River County Tax Collector states the deferral application must be submitted on or before March 31 following the tax year.
Applicants must meet specified property-insurance requirements, including coverage and loss-payable provisions.
Deferred taxes and interest can become due after sale, loss of eligibility, ownership/use change or loss of required insurance.
City business tax and county business tax are not the same thing
This is a common Vero Beach routing mistake. The Indian River County Tax Collector says its Local Business Tax applies to businesses in unincorporated Indian River County. A business physically located inside an incorporated municipality should check with that city or town.
Contact the City of Vero Beach Planning & Development Department for the City Local Business Tax Receipt. The current city contact number is 772-978-4550.
The Indian River County Tax Collector administers the county Local Business Tax. The current county tax is listed as $40 for businesses subject to the county receipt.
County Local Business Tax renewals run July through September. An unrenewed account becomes delinquent after September 30.
