Mailing address for tax payments
If you mail property tax payment, include the bottom portion of the tax bill and make the check payable in U.S. funds. The official remittance address is: Carole Jean Jordan, Tax Collector, PO Box 1509, Vero Beach, FL 32961-1509.
Indian River County Property Tax Discounts, March Gross Tax and April 1 Delinquency
Florida property tax bills are mailed by November 1, and Indian River County follows the standard early-payment discount schedule for current taxes.
November: 4% discount
Pay in November to receive the largest current-year discount. Discounts are determined by the postmark of the payment.
December: 3% discount
December payments receive a reduced discount. This is still better than waiting until March if you are ready to pay.
January and February
January payments receive a 2% discount. February payments receive a 1% discount. The discount ends after February.
March: gross taxes due
Gross taxes become due in March with no discount. March is the last safe month before delinquency for standard current-year real estate taxes.
April 1: delinquent date
Unpaid real estate taxes become delinquent on April 1 of the year after the tax year. A 3% penalty is added to the gross tax on the delinquent date.
Why postmark matters
The official real estate tax guidance says discounts are determined by the postmark of your payment. If you mail close to a month-end discount deadline, keep proof of mailing and do not assume delivery date and postmark date are the same.

Vero Beach Delinquent Property Taxes, April 1 Penalty and Tax Certificate Sale
Indian River County guidance says unpaid property taxes become delinquent April 1 of the year following the tax year. On April 1, a 3% penalty is added to the gross tax.
Real estate tax delinquency is not just a late-payment label. Accounts that remain unpaid in May are charged advertising fees and advertised weekly in a local newspaper for three consecutive weeks. If taxes remain unpaid, a tax certificate must be sold against the unpaid tax on or before June 1 each year.
April 1 delinquency
Unpaid real estate property taxes become delinquent on April 1 and receive a 3% penalty on the gross tax.
May advertising
Accounts remaining unpaid in May are charged advertising costs and advertised weekly for three consecutive weeks.
Tax certificate sale
If taxes remain unpaid, a tax certificate lien must be sold against the property on or before June 1 each year.
What to do if your account is already delinquent
- Confirm the exact tax year and account.
- Check whether the amount includes penalty or advertising costs.
- Do not mail a personal check if certified funds are required.
- Ask whether the account is headed to or already in certificate-sale status.
- Save proof after paying.
Indian River County Property Tax Installment Plan
Indian River County explains that taxpayers may participate in a quarterly installment plan for next year’s real estate or tangible personal property taxes if the estimated tax bill is more than $100.
The installment application must be completed and returned to the Tax Collector no later than April 30. Under the plan, the first bill is due in June, the second in September, the third in December and the final in March. Missed payments can affect discounts and installment eligibility.
Apply by April 30
The application deadline matters. If you want installment billing for next year’s taxes, do not wait until the fall tax bill arrives.
June payment is critical
The Tax Collector explains that if the June installment is not made, you will receive a November bill for the full year with usual discounts.
Installment discounts
The installment schedule includes June, September, December and March payment periods with different discount treatment.

Call Property Appraiser for…

Local Business Tax and Tangible Personal Property Tax Help
Indian River County Tax Collector offices also handle local business tax services, and tangible personal property tax can affect businesses with furniture, equipment, fixtures or other taxable business property.
Tangible personal property taxes are due and payable at the same time as real estate taxes, with the same early-payment discount schedule: 4% in November, 3% in December, 2% in January, 1% in February and gross taxes due in March. If a business is closing, tangible personal property and real estate taxes may need to be paid before certain permits are issued.
Local business tax
Use the Tax Collector for local business tax receipt services. Some applications may require other city, county or state approvals first.
Tangible personal property
Business equipment and other taxable items may generate a tangible personal property tax bill. Verify account and tax year before paying.
Closing a business
The Tax Collector notes that some going-out-of-business permits require taxes to be paid and are issued only at the Main Office.
