Town of Stratford Tax Collector: Pay, Search & Hours

Stratford, Connecticut · Tax payment, records and DMV-clearance guide

Search, Pay or Correct a Stratford Tax Account

Use Stratford’s official tax portal for bills, balances and payment. Use the Tax Assessor database for property values, field cards, exemptions and vehicle adjustments. These systems answer different questions and should not be treated as interchangeable records.

This guide explains what to enter, current Point & Pay fees, office hours, mail and drop-box rules, late interest, DMV release timing, the 2025 revaluation and the correct next step when a bill or assessment looks wrong.

Stratford CT—not Stratford NH: This guide covers the Connecticut town office at 2725 Main Street and phone 203-385-4030. The New Hampshire Town Clerk/Tax Collector has a different office, phone and tax kiosk. See the disambiguation section before paying.
Current status — August 4, 2026: Stratford’s first tax and sewer-usage installments were due July 1 and payable without interest through August 3, 2026. An unpaid July installment is now delinquent. Open the live account or call for the current payoff rather than using the original coupon amount.

Tax Lien Warning

⛔ Texas Attorney Fee Warning: After July 1, delinquent property taxes are referred to a collection attorney. An additional 15–20% attorney fee is added on top of your penalty and interest. On a $5,000 tax bill, this adds $750–$1,000 instantly. Pay before July 1 to avoid this.

What do you need from the Town?

1
Bill, balance or receipt

Use MyTaxBill or Tax Collection for real estate, personal property, vehicle, sewer and assessment bills.

2
Value, field card or exemption

Use the Tax Assessor and Vision database for assessment, parcel, property facts, exemptions and vehicle adjustments.

3
Deed, mortgage or recorded lien

Use Town Clerk land records. A tax bill or field card is not the recorded legal document.

Fast routing rule: “What do I owe or did I pay?” means Tax Collector. “Why is the value, vehicle, owner, exemption or property record wrong?” means Tax Assessor.

Official online workflow

How to search and pay a Stratford CT tax bill online

Open the official Stratford MyTaxBill page Use the Town-linked portal, not a sponsored bill-payment page or an Assessor field card.
Choose the correct tab Select Tax Bills for real estate, personal property and motor vehicle taxes. Use Sewer/Water/Misc for the applicable sewer or assessment account.
Select one search method Use name, property location, bill number, account number, motor-vehicle link, Tax ID, Account ID, Link ID or DBA.
Start with fewer details For a name, enter last name, a space and first initial without punctuation. For property location, omit Street, Court, Lane and similar suffixes.
Verify the record Match the taxpayer, property or vehicle context, Grand List year, bill type and bill number before opening the balance.
Review every relevant account Check regular and supplemental motor vehicle, real estate, personal property, sewer usage and special-assessment records separately.
Choose the amount intentionally Confirm whether you are paying an installment, a full bill, a balance due or an older delinquent amount.
Review the Point & Pay fee The portal discloses the fee before submission. Cancel if the bill, amount or fee is not correct.
Save the confirmation Keep the receipt, account details, amount, payment date and bank/card record until the municipal database shows the correct status.
Portal field guide

Which Stratford tax-search field should you use?

Search routes shown in the live Stratford portal
Search Enter Best use Limit
Name Last name, space, first initial; no punctuation. Taxpayer or business name is known. Common names may return several accounts.
Property location Street number and/or street name without suffix. Real estate and personal property. Does not return all motor-vehicle records.
Bill number / Tax ID Grand List year, bill type and bill number or Tax ID. You have a printed bill or notice. Wrong bill year or type hides the record.
Account number / Account ID Exact account reference. Real estate or personal-property account lookup. Do not substitute a lender loan number.
Link number / Link ID Motor-vehicle link reference. Regular or supplemental vehicle account. A co-registrant may have separate delinquent bills.
DBA Doing-business-as name. Business personal-property records. Legal owner and DBA may differ.
Portal filters: “All” shows available records, “Due Now” narrows to accounts marked currently due, “Balance Due” helps locate unpaid amounts, and “IRS Payment Records” provides payment-history records for the displayed year. A payment-history result is not automatically a complete current payoff.
Current Point & Pay fees

Stratford online tax payment fees

Fees displayed by the live MyTaxBill portal
Method Current displayed fee Useful when Check first
E-check $0.90 Lowest listed electronic fee. Routing/account numbers and available funds.

Credit card 2.5%; $2 minimum Card convenience. Percentage cost on a large tax bill.
Google Pay / Apple Pay 2.5%; $2 minimum Supported digital-wallet payment. Correct funding card and account.
Outdated-fee warning: Older Stratford notices referenced a previous processor and different percentages. The live MyTaxBill checkout is the controlling fee check now. Review the fee before authorizing because processor charges can change.
Automated payment

Pay by phone without selecting the wrong bill

The live portal lists 833-317-4313 for IVR payment. Have the exact bill or account details ready before calling.

Town is Stratford, Connecticut
Grand List year is correct
Bill type is RE, PP, MV or supplemental
Installment or payoff amount is intentional
Convenience fee is understood

Stratford 2026 tax due dates and current status

July 1, 2026 — first installment due First tax installments and sewer-usage bills became due.
August 3, 2026 — last day without interest The Town’s current Tax Collector page identifies this as the final no-interest date for July bills.
August 4, 2026 — unpaid July bills are delinquent Interest is calculated from the original July 1 due date. Use a current payoff.
January 1, 2027 — next standard installment period Real estate, personal property and applicable sewer accounts may have another installment. Use the actual bill and future Town notice for the final no-interest date.
Small-bill and bill-type differences: Not every account has two installments. Motor vehicle, supplemental vehicle, special assessment and sewer bills can follow different bill-specific schedules. Follow the printed record.
Delinquent tax

Late interest, partial payments and exact payoff

Statutory interest

Connecticut law applies 18% annually, calculated as 1.5% for each month or fraction of a month from the original due date.

Minimum interest

State law generally provides a $2 minimum per delinquent installment unless the municipality has taken the permitted action not to impose it.

A fraction of a month counts as a full month. Paying one day into another calendar month can add another month of interest. Do not estimate a late payoff from a daily rate.
Interest waivers are extremely limited. Current Connecticut law ties an error-based waiver to a joint Collector/Assessor finding and municipal legislative approval. Missing a bill, relying on escrow or waiting for a correction generally does not create an automatic waiver.
Payoff call script “Please confirm every open Stratford bill for [name/account], the payoff through [date], all interest and collection fees, and whether this payment will clear DMV, a lien or another restriction.”
Motor vehicle clearance

Choose the payment method by DMV urgency

Town-published DMV release timing
Payment method Published timing Practical action
Credit card or debit card No DMV clearance for 10 days. Do not schedule an urgent registration based only on confirmation.
Personal check No DMV clearance for 10 days. Use another approved method when next-day release is needed.
Cash Overnight; next-business-day registration. Pay at the counter and retain the receipt.
Money order Overnight; next-business-day registration. Confirm the exact payoff before purchasing it.
Certified bank check Overnight; next-business-day registration. Use the exact payee and amount supplied by the office.
Same-day clearance May be available for an additional fee. Call before visiting; do not assume availability.
All names must be clear: Every delinquent tax in the taxpayer’s name and a co-registrant’s name must be paid in full before a release is issued.
Search regular and supplemental vehicle bills One paid account may not clear another year or list.
Request the exact DMV payoff Include interest, fees and every co-registrant bill.
Choose the payment based on timing Use certified funds/cash for next-business-day processing when the office confirms the route.
Wait for the release file Payment confirmation is not the same as DMV clearance.

October 1, 2025 revaluation

Understand the new Stratford assessments

Vision Government Solutions completed the town-wide revaluation for the October 1, 2025 Grand List. The Town states that the new assessment represents 70% of fair market value as of October 1, 2025.

Basic assessment rule: estimated market value × 70% = assessed value. The tax is then based on the assessed value and the applicable Town mill rate.
Market value

The estimated full value as of the revaluation date.

Assessment

Connecticut generally applies 70% of market value for the taxable assessment.

Tax bill

Assessment multiplied by the applicable mill rate, divided by 1,000, subject to credits and charges.

Do not apply an old mill rate to a new assessment. The Town specifically warned during revaluation that using the then-current rate would create an inaccurate tax estimate. Use the actual 2026 bill and adopted rate.
Deadline-sensitive

Assessment appeal status as of August 4, 2026

The 2025 Grand List revaluation appeal period has passed. Stratford required written Board of Assessment Appeals filings between February 1 and February 20, 2026 after the Vision informal-hearing process.
Confirm which assessment is being challenged Annual real estate, personal property, motor vehicle, supplemental and certificate-of-correction matters may have different timing.
Use the current Board page and form The page still contains a stale 2024 banner, so rely on the current application, schedule and dated Town notice.
Prepare valuation evidence Use comparable sales, appraisal, photos, condition facts, property records or vehicle evidence tied to the correct assessment date.
Keep paying obligations separate An assessment dispute does not automatically stop the Collector deadline or statutory interest.
2026 application period closed

Senior and disabled homeowner tax-relief programs

The February 1–May 15, 2026 application period has ended. Use the official page for the next application cycle and do not subtract a credit from the bill without approval.

Wrong motor-vehicle bill

Sold, stolen, totaled, moved or registered elsewhere?

The Tax Collector receives payment and issues clearance. The Tax Assessor determines whether the underlying vehicle assessment should be adjusted.

Vehicle sold or traded Provide plate-cancellation and sale/trade documentation requested by the Assessor.
Total loss Use insurance total-loss proof and DMV/plate records.
Stolen vehicle Provide police, insurance and registration documentation.
Moved out of Connecticut Provide out-of-state registration and Connecticut plate/registration evidence.
Wrong owner or vehicle Compare the Grand List year, plate, vehicle and co-registrant details.
Correction is pending Monitor the Tax Collector deadline; an Assessor request does not automatically stop interest.
Collection escalation

Delinquent personal property and other collection problems

TaxServ account

The Town says TaxServ Capital Services handles delinquent personal-property taxes for the 2023 Grand List and prior.

Verify before paying

Confirm the referral through the official Stratford Tax Collector number and request an itemized payoff tied to the correct taxpayer, list year and account.

Do not use an unverified payment request. A legitimate collector should be traceable through the Town. Never pay municipal tax through gift card, cryptocurrency or an unrelated peer-to-peer account.
Collection verification script “I received a notice from [company] for account [number]. Please confirm that Stratford referred this exact account, the list year, the complete payoff and the authorized payment route.”
Missing bill and escrow

New owner, missing bill or mortgage-payment problem

No bill arrived Search MyTaxBill and request a copy. Failure to receive the bill does not stop interest.
Recently bought property Search by location/account even if the prior owner still appears. Closing proration does not prove the Town was paid.
Mortgage company should pay Ask for the disbursement date, amount, tax account and check/reference number, then verify the Town posting.
Supplemental car bill missing Search 04 Motor Vehicle Supp and use the link-number route.
Mailing address wrong Contact the Assessor to update the assessment-roll address; paying does not update it.
Paid wrong account Do not submit a second payment until Tax Collection researches the first transaction.
After payment

Confirm payment posting and preserve proof

Proof to retain by payment method
Route Keep Verify
Online / phone Confirmation, receipt email and bank/card record. Town, bill year, bill type, amount and posting.
Counter Dated municipal receipt. Account, installment and all DMV-related balances.
Mail Check copy, bill-stub copy and mailing/postmark proof. Receipt and account application before discarding records.
Drop box Check/stub copy and drop-off notes. Processing after the office retrieves the payment.
Escrow Lender statement, check/reference and disbursement date. Town posting, not only the lender’s “sent” status.
Municipal record controls: The live portal says that if its display differs from the municipal database, the municipality’s maintained record controls. Contact Tax Collection with proof rather than relying on a screenshot alone.
