How to pay a Monroe CT tax bill
The Town provides online, in-person and mail payment routes. During the July and January collection periods, the Town’s payment schedule also identifies Newtown Savings Bank in Monroe as an additional payment location.
Pay by mail
Mail tax payments to:
Monroe, CT 06468
The Town’s tax FAQ instructs taxpayers who want a mailed receipt to send the entire bill with a stamped, self-addressed envelope. Checks should be payable to the Town of Monroe.
Pay in person
Payments can be brought to the Tax Collector’s Office at Monroe Town Hall, 7 Fan Hill Road. Because office closures can occur for holidays or special circumstances, check the Town website before making a time-sensitive trip.
Monroe property tax due dates
The Town mails annual tax bills near the end of June. Its current payment schedule says the bill includes July and January payment stubs.
| Installment | Due date | Town-published last day without penalty | What happens next |
|---|---|---|---|
| First half | July 1 | August 1 | Unpaid balances become delinquent after the applicable grace period. |
| Second half | January 1 | February 1 | The Town says delinquent notices are mailed in mid-February. |
When a published deadline falls around a weekend, holiday or unusual Town closure, confirm the applicable payment rule directly with the Tax Collector rather than assuming the deadline automatically changes.
Convenience fees for online tax payments
The Town states that online convenience fees go to the payment-processing company rather than to the Town.
| Payment type | Published fee | Practical check |
|---|---|---|
| Credit/debit card | 2.99% of payment, minimum $3.95 | Review the processor’s final fee before submitting. |
| e-Check | $0.95 | Confirm the bank and routing information carefully. |

The Town also lists online appointment booking for the Tax Collector among departments offering appointments. An appointment may be useful when the issue requires account research rather than a straightforward counter payment.
Tax bill lookup vs. property assessment records
The tax-payment system and the Assessor’s property database serve different purposes. Use the tax bill system when you need a balance, payment status or prior bill. Use the assessment database when you need the property’s assessed value or parcel record.
Monroe CT mill rate for FY 2026–2027
The Town’s approved annual budget for fiscal year 2026–2027 calculates a mill rate of 29.88 on the 2025 Grand List. A mill represents $1 of tax for each $1,000 of taxable assessed value.
Taxable assessment × 0.02988 gives a basic annual tax estimate before applicable exemptions, credits, adjustments or other account-specific changes.
Do not use a calculation alone as a payment amount. The actual bill and official account balance control what is due.
What happens if a Monroe tax bill is delinquent?
The Tax Collector handles current and delinquent accounts, delinquent notices, balance-due notices, liens, collection activity, refunds, bankruptcies and tax sales.
The Town’s payment schedule says delinquent notices are mailed in mid-February.
Delinquent personal property and motor vehicle accounts are listed by the Town for referral to a collection agency.
The Town’s schedule states that real-estate liens are filed in April.
Monroe’s tax definitions also explain that delinquent motor vehicle and personal property bills may be given to a collection agency, and that additional collection charges can apply. A real-estate account that remains delinquent can progress to lien or other collection action.

Monroe motor vehicle tax bills and corrections
Motor vehicle assessment questions and tax-payment questions are not always handled by the same office. The Assessor is responsible for vehicle assessments, while the Tax Collector handles payment and collection of the resulting tax bill.
If you sold, totaled or moved a vehicle
Monroe’s Assessor says a motor vehicle adjustment generally requires proof that the Connecticut registration was cancelled plus supporting documentation such as a bill of sale, trade-in paperwork, junk receipt, insurance total-loss statement or out-of-state registration, depending on the situation.
Supplemental motor vehicle bills
Vehicles newly registered after the October 1 assessment date, and certain plate transfers, can appear on the supplemental motor vehicle Grand List. Monroe states that these bills are typically issued late in the calendar year and are due in January.
