How to pay a Milford CT tax bill online

The City of Milford uses its official “View & Pay Tax Bills” page to connect taxpayers with the Point & Pay payment service. The payment page can be used for current tax and fee balances, but service charges apply to electronic transactions.

Open the City of Milford payment page Use the official municipal page rather than a search advertisement or unrelated payment website.
Continue to the bill search Follow the City page to the tax-bill lookup and locate the correct current account or assessment-year entry.
Review the bill before paying Confirm the taxpayer or property information, amount due, due date and any interest shown before submitting a payment.
Compare the payment fee Credit card, debit card and electronic-check transactions have different processor charges, so review the fee before final authorization.
Keep your payment confirmation Save the confirmation and your tax records. Milford advises taxpayers to maintain receipts as proof of payment.
If the bill is blocked online: Call the Tax Collector at 203-783-3217. The City notes that a blocked bill can occur when older taxes are also outstanding.
2026–27 tax cycle

First July 1, 2026 August 3, 2026 Past
Second January 1, 2027 February 1, 2027 Upcoming; advance payment is permitted

Processor charges

Milford online tax payment fees

The convenience fee is charged by the payment processor rather than treated as part of the underlying tax. The City’s current online payment page lists the following charges and notes that fees are subject to change.

Online payment fee schedule shown by the City of Milford
Method Current listed fee Useful when
Credit card 2.5% of transaction; $2 minimum You prefer card payment and accept the percentage fee.
Debit card 0.85% of transaction; $2 minimum You want to use an eligible debit card online.
Electronic check $0.95 flat fee per online transaction You want a lower listed online processing charge.
Returned check $20 This is a returned-payment charge, not a payment option.
Phone payment fees are different. Point & Pay’s live Personal Teller service at 877-495-2729 adds a $5 Personal Teller fee plus the applicable transaction fee. Check the official phone-payment page before authorizing the transaction.

Do not wait until the deadline to send a bank bill-pay check

Payments initiated through a bank’s online bill-pay service may arrive at Milford as a mailed paper check. The City warns that these checks may not carry a qualifying postmark, so schedule them far enough in advance to be received by the deadline.

For mailed tax payments close to a deadline, confirm the City’s current postmark rules before sending the payment. Milford notes that metered mail is not treated as a USPS postmark for this purpose.

Delinquent taxes

What happens when a Milford tax payment is late?

Connecticut law requires interest on delinquent municipal property-tax installments. Milford currently states that interest is charged at 1.5% per month from the original due date, or 18% annually, with a $2 minimum interest charge for each overdue installment.

The Tax Collector cannot waive statutory interest. Milford’s official guidance states that the office does not have legal authority to reduce or waive required delinquent-tax interest.

If you mailed or deposited a payment on time but the online system still temporarily shows interest, do not immediately stop payment on the check. During high-volume collection periods, Milford says posting can take additional time. Contact the office first to verify whether the payment was received.

If you never received the tax bill

Not receiving a bill does not eliminate the underlying tax obligation. Search the City’s online system or call 203-783-3217 for a copy, particularly after buying a property or paying off a mortgage escrow account.

Motor vehicle taxes

Need immediate Connecticut DMV clearance?

If delinquent Milford motor vehicle taxes are blocking registration, the payment method matters. Online payment does not produce immediate DMV clearance.

Milford DMV clearance timing
Payment method City’s stated clearance timing
Cash, money order or certified bank check in office Use this route when immediate DMV release is required after the balance is paid in full.
Credit/debit card Approximately 2–3 business days.
Check or online electronic check Approximately 10 business days.
Account with collection agency Allow additional time; Milford estimates at least 10–12 business days.
Right office

Tax Collector vs. Assessor: who should you contact?

The Tax Collector handles collection and payment of tax bills. The Assessor handles assessment-side questions such as property values, exemptions and many motor-vehicle adjustments. Sending the issue to the correct office can avoid unnecessary payment delays.

Payment, balance, receipt or missing bill Contact the Milford Tax Collector at 203-783-3217.
Real estate or personal-property address change Contact the Milford Assessor’s Office.
Assessment or exemption question Contact the Assessor at 203-783-3215.
Vehicle sold, totaled, moved or plates canceled Ask the Assessor whether the account qualifies for an adjustment and what proof is required.
Property buyers

Recently bought a Milford property or ended escrow?

Ownership changes may not immediately appear on the tax bill. If you recently bought a property and do not have the bill, contact the Tax Collector for a copy rather than waiting for another mailing.

Milford real estate taxes operate on a July-to-June fiscal-year cycle. The City’s guidance explains that the July installment covers the first half of the fiscal year and the January installment covers the second half. Closing adjustments between buyer and seller do not replace the responsibility to pay the next municipal installment when it becomes due.

Escrow ended? If your mortgage company is no longer paying taxes for you, verify the outstanding real estate tax and any separate sewer-use line item in the City’s online system.
Local extra service

Resident parking stickers at the Tax Collector office

The Milford Tax Collector also handles resident parking stickers. The City states that your taxes must be current and that you should provide the vehicle registration. Additional documentation may be required when the registration does not show a Milford address or Milford tax town.

Check the City’s current parking-sticker instructions before visiting because eligibility and supporting-document requirements can depend on how the vehicle is registered.
