Lake County property tax due dates for 2026
Indiana property taxes are normally paid in two installments. For 2026, the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance lists the due dates as May 11, 2026 and November 10, 2026.
| Installment | 2026 due date | What it means in October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Spring | May 11, 2026 | The normal due date has passed. Check the live account for any unpaid spring balance and penalty. |
| Fall | November 10, 2026 | This is the next normal 2026 installment deadline. |
What happens if Lake County property taxes are late?
Indiana applies a penalty when property taxes are not paid by the due date. State guidance says a taxpayer who pays within 30 days after the due date and does not owe earlier delinquent taxes on the same parcel generally faces a penalty equal to 5% of the unpaid tax.
If the payment remains unpaid beyond that period, or the parcel has qualifying earlier delinquency, the penalty can be 10% of the unpaid tax. Additional statutory penalties can apply to balances that remain unpaid into later installments.

Common Lake County tax-payment problems
| Problem | What to check | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| You did not receive a tax bill | Confirm the mailing information and search the current tax account. | Contact the Treasurer for billing/payment questions and the appropriate county office if the mailing record itself needs correction. |
| Payment is not showing | Compare the property number, confirmation and date paid. | Keep the receipt and contact the Treasurer before submitting a second payment. |
| The assessed value looks wrong | Separate the assessed-value issue from the amount already billed. | Use the Lake County assessment process rather than asking the Treasurer to change the assessment. |
| A prior-year balance appears | Do not assume the original amount is still the payoff. | Get the current balance from the live record or Treasurer. |
| Your mortgage company should have paid | Verify both the escrow disbursement and the county account. | Contact the mortgage servicer and Treasurer with the parcel/property number and payment information. |
Lake County tax sale and redemption information
Lake County states that parcels with qualifying unpaid taxes and special assessments from the prior year’s spring installment may become eligible for the Treasurer’s tax sale. The county compiles a delinquent-property list under the applicable statutory schedule, and additional tax-sale costs can be added as the process advances.
The Treasurer also states that the Lake County tax sale is conducted online. If you own a parcel already in the tax-sale process, do not rely on a normal installment balance or an old bill as the amount needed to stop the process.
Personal property judgments require different payment handling
Lake County publishes separate rules for delinquent personal property taxes that have progressed to judgment. The Treasurer says judgment payments are accepted only at the Crown Point Treasurer’s Office.
For judgment payments, the county states that personal checks are not accepted. Published accepted forms are cash, money order or cashier’s check, and taxpayers should contact the office for the current amount due.
