The Tax Collector accepts current property-tax payments online, in person and by mail. The quickest starting point for most owners is the official tax-roll search because it lets you locate the correct account before choosing a payment route.
Pay online
Pay in person
Current property-tax payments can be made at the Gilchrist County Tax Collector’s office. The main Trenton location is open on weekdays, while the Bell branch is open only on Wednesday and closes briefly for lunch.
Pay by mail
The official property-tax page lists PO Box 194, Trenton, FL 32693 as the mailing address for tax payments. For current taxes, the office states that the postmark applies. Delinquent taxes are different: the amount is based on when payment is received, and the postmark does not apply.

Property tax discounts, due date and delinquency date
Gilchrist County real-estate tax notices are normally mailed on or before November 1. Florida’s early-payment discount schedule applies to the annual bill, with the discount declining each month through February.
| Payment month | Discount or status | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| November | 4% discount | Highest standard early-payment discount. |
| December | 3% discount | Discount decreases by one percentage point. |
| January | 2% discount | Available for qualifying current-year payment. |
| February | 1% discount | Final standard discount month. |
| March | No discount | Full amount is due by March 31. |
| April 1 onward | Delinquent | Delinquent-tax rules, interest and applicable costs begin to matter. |
Gilchrist County property tax installment plan
Owners who prefer quarterly payments may qualify for the Tax Collector’s installment plan. The plan is for the next tax year, not a way to divide an already-due current annual bill.
The office says the combined installment-plan discounts work out to approximately 3.3%. Owners whose taxes are paid through a mortgage escrow account should not use the installment plan because mortgage companies are expected to pay in November to obtain the maximum discount.
What happens when Gilchrist County real-estate taxes become delinquent?
Unpaid real-estate taxes become delinquent on April 1. At that point, the office states that payment must be made by cash, cashier’s check, money order, or debit/credit card, with convenience fees applying to card payments.
Tax certificate sale
The Tax Collector is required to hold a tax certificate sale beginning on or before June 1 each year. The Gilchrist County sale is conducted online, and bidders compete by bidding the interest rate downward from 18%.
County-held certificates
If a certificate receives no bid, it can be struck to the county. Eligible county-held certificates may later be purchased through the Tax Collector’s office on a first-come, first-served basis.
Tax deed questions
The Tax Collector can provide information about the tax deed application process. Bidding at a tax deed auction is handled through the Gilchrist County Clerk of Court rather than the Tax Collector.
Tax Collector or Property Appraiser: which office do you need?
The Tax Collector collects the taxes shown on the certified tax roll. The Property Appraiser determines assessed values and handles exemptions and tax-roll ownership or mailing-address information.
Other services handled by the Gilchrist County Tax Collector
The office does more than collect property taxes. It also serves as an agent for several Florida agencies and handles multiple motorist and licensing transactions.
Driver-license and identification services are offered for transactions that require an office visit.
The office processes vehicle titles, registration renewals, license plates and related motor services.
Vessel registrations and title services are part of the office’s motor-services role.
The Tax Collector handles required mobile-home registrations and decals.
Licenses are issued as an agent of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The office processes qualifying new applications and renewals for the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
What to do if something is wrong with your tax account
Try a shorter owner name, street address or account number. If the property still does not appear, contact the Tax Collector before sending payment.
Mailing-address and tax-roll corrections generally belong with the Gilchrist County Property Appraiser.
Keep the online confirmation, canceled check or other proof of payment and contact the Tax Collector with the account details.
Do not rely on the amount shown on an older bill. Delinquent taxes can include additional charges, so verify the current payoff amount.
The Tax Collector asks owners to notify the office so a bill can be sent to the new owner. Tax-roll changes made after the normal cutoff may not appear until the following tax year.
The mortgage company normally requests and pays the tax bill. Check your escrow statement before making a duplicate payment yourself.
