Pay, Search or Resolve an Edison Municipal Bill
Choose the correct tax or sewer account, payment route and deadline before sending money. Edison’s Collector handles both services, but their account formats, schedules and common mistakes are different.
This independent guide converts township pages and forms into practical steps. Use a township-linked portal only after you have identified the property and bill you intend to handle.

Which Edison account are you handling?
Quarterly bill normally due in February, May, August and November.
Annual charge based on prior-year water use and payable in two halves.
Value, owner records, deductions, exemptions, tax maps and appeals belong to the Assessor.
Current dates that need extra attention
A June 10, 2026 council agenda authorized estimated third-quarter bills due August 1, 2026 because final budget and rate certification could be delayed.
Use the payment stub or a later township notice for the actual grace-period cutoff.
A January 2026 council resolution scheduled the annual accelerated sale on or about December 14, 2026.
This is planning language, not the final legal advertisement or property list. Verify the published notice before acting.
Look up an Edison tax account before paying
Edison links to WIPP for account status and payment history. Use it to match the property and review postings; request a Collector payoff for liens, closings or tax-sale accounts.
Choose online, bank bill pay, ACH, mail, drop box or counter
| Method | Current rule | Best use | Avoid |
|---|---|---|---|
| MSBPay online | Card or e-check; live processor fee applies | Remote payment with confirmation | Assuming an old PDF fee is still current |
| Bank bill pay | Separate tax/sewer payees and account formats | Bank-generated remittance | Using block and lot |
| Free ACH withdrawal | Form received 15 days before first due date | Automatic due-date debits | Forgetting written cancellation |
| 24-hour drop box | Curbside box; posts next business day | After-hours check or money order | Depositing after the practical cutoff |
| In person | Cash, check or money order; second floor | Staff help or receipt | Assuming counter cards are accepted |
| Allow 5–7 days; postmark not accepted | Payment well before deadline | Mailing near grace-period cutoff |
Set up bank bill pay correctly
Use EDISON TAX COLLECTOR.
Reference the Tax Account number with all numeric digits. Do not enter block/lot as the account.
Use EDISON SEWER COLLECTOR.
Reference the Sewer Account number and include the dash.
Mail or use the curbside drop box
100 Municipal Boulevard
Edison, NJ 08817
Allow five to seven days. Edison does not accept the postmark date and asks users not to use paper clips.
The curbside box is in front of the Municipal Building. Payments deposited there post the next business day.
Include the stub or clear account information and retain a check copy.
Enroll in free Edison direct withdrawal
The township authorization covers tax, sewer and water. It is a form-based enrollment rather than an instant portal switch.
- Tax: February 1, May 1, August 1 and November 1.
- Sewer: April 1 and October 1, or as stated on the bill.
- Water: monthly or quarterly as stated on the bill.
The authorization lists a $20 returned-check fee.
A failed debit does not erase the municipal balance or interest consequences.
2026 quarterly tax dates and grace-period checks
The township FAQ describes a 10-day grace period from the due date printed on the payment stub.
When the final day falls on a weekend, the FAQ says it extends to Monday.
Third-quarter billing delays, holidays or a special municipal notice can change the practical cutoff. Use the current bill rather than last year’s calendar.
Understand the Edison sewer charge before paying
Based on the prior year’s water consumption.
Stub 1 date varies; Stub 2 is due October 1.
Sewer is not paid through the mortgage company.
Estimated water readings and later corrections
When prior-year water consumption was estimated, Edison uses that estimate for the current sewer calculation. A later water adjustment is reflected in the following sewer year rather than automatically rewriting the current bill.
Outside-water-use allowance
For qualifying residential accounts, Edison says a 15% outside-water-use discount is already deducted. Do not subtract another 15% from the printed balance.
Senior sewer-rate freeze
A property owner age 65 or older may request a sewer-rate freeze for the primary residence. Proof must be submitted by March 1. Edison lists a township ID, driver license, birth certificate, passport or county ID as examples of proof. For senior-program assistance, call 732-248-7345.
| Issue | Township guidance | User action |
|---|---|---|
| First half | Date printed on Stub 1, usually April–June | Use the bill, not a generic April date |
| Second half | October 1 | Confirm first-half posting first |
| Grace period | May not exceed 10 days | Use the bill/township cutoff |
| Interest | Up to 8% on first $1,500 and 18% over $1,500 | Request a current payoff |
| Large year-end delinquency | Possible additional 6% when total municipal delinquency exceeds $10,000 | Resolve before year-end |
| Tax sale | Municipal charges unpaid on November 11 may be subject to sale | Confirm current status with the Collector |

Late balances, liens and 2026 tax-sale checks
Mortgage escrow, tenants, property sales and mailing changes
Check WIPP after each due date. A lender escrow withdrawal does not prove Edison received and applied the tax payment.
Edison states that sewer is not the mortgage company’s responsibility and is not included in the monthly mortgage payment.
The owner remains responsible. A tenant should forward the bill unless the lease specifically assigns payment to the tenant.
Make sure the buyer or paying agent receives the bill, update ownership/mailing records and cancel recurring ACH in writing.
Tax Collector or Tax Assessor?
| Question | Office | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| How much do I owe or how do I pay? | Tax Collector | Tax/sewer balances, payments and receipts |
| Why is interest, a lien or sale status showing? | Tax Collector | Delinquency, payoff and collection status |
| Is the assessed value correct? | Tax Assessor | Assessment and property characteristics |
| Is the owner or mailing address wrong? | Tax Assessor | Ownership and assessment records |
| Do I qualify for a deduction or exemption? | Tax Assessor | Eligibility and applications |
| Where are tax maps? | Tax Assessor | Parcel reference maps, not boundary surveys |
Phone: 732-248-7211
Email: TaxAssessor@edisonnj.gov
Assessment search and tax maps help identify the parcel. Edison warns that tax maps are not survey maps.
Common deductions, exemptions and appeal routing
Edison describes a $250 deduction for eligible veterans or surviving spouses. Eligibility and filing evidence are reviewed by the Assessor.
Eligibility includes age or disability, ownership/residency and income conditions. Use the current township/state form rather than relying on a summary alone.
A qualifying permanently and totally service-connected disabled veteran may be eligible for a full principal-residence exemption under New Jersey law.
Assessment appeal is not a payment dispute
An appeal challenges assessed value, not the Collector’s arithmetic, tax rate or payment posting. Follow the current county/state filing deadline and evidence rules, and continue paying unless an official instruction states otherwise.
