East Hampton Tax Collector: Pay Property Tax, Office & Hours

The East Hampton CT Tax Collector function is handled by the Town of East Hampton Collector of Revenue. The office collects real estate, motor vehicle and personal property taxes and also handles sewer-use billing.

Use this page to reach the official tax account system, understand the current payment methods and fees, check office hours, and determine whether a tax issue belongs with the Collector of Revenue or the Assessor.

Use the correct office: The Collector of Revenue collects the tax after a bill is issued. Questions about property value, assessments, exemptions and many tax-relief programs normally belong with the East Hampton Assessor instead.

Official payment route

How to pay an East Hampton property tax bill

East Hampton uses an online tax system linked from the Town’s official website. The system can be used for real estate, personal property and motor vehicle bills. Sewer bills are reached through the same payment environment, but users must select the sewer/water/miscellaneous section.

Lowest-cost online option: The Town currently states that ACH/e-check payments made with a bank routing and checking or savings account number have no service fee. Credit transactions are currently subject to a 3.25% convenience fee charged through the payment processor.
Open the official East Hampton tax payment system Use the Town’s tax-payment link rather than a search-engine advertisement or an unrelated payment website.
Search for the correct tax bill Depending on the account type, search with the available bill, taxpayer, property or account information shown in the official system.
Check the bill year and property before paying Confirm the owner or taxpayer information, property location, bill type, installment and balance. This matters especially if more than one tax year is displayed.
Choose the payment amount East Hampton states that partial payments may be accepted online. If using that option, confirm how much remains outstanding after the payment.
Select a payment method Compare the displayed card fee with the no-fee ACH/e-check option before authorizing the transaction.
Save the confirmation Keep the electronic receipt or confirmation number until the payment appears on the municipal account.
Payment methods

Online, mail, office and drop-box payment options

Online

The Town uses Invoice Cloud for online processing. Current Town information lists major cards and digital-payment options, with credit transactions subject to a 3.25% convenience fee.

ACH/e-check is currently listed without a service fee.

In person

The Town’s payment-options guidance currently states that the office accepts cash or check for in-office tax and sewer payments.

Because payment methods can change, confirm with the office before making a special trip if you plan to use another form of payment.

By mail

Mail tax payments to:

Town of East Hampton
Collector of Revenue
1 Community Drive
East Hampton, CT 06424
Town Hall drop box

A payment drop box is available outside the entrance of Town Hall at 1 Community Drive.

For security, do not place cash in an unattended drop box unless the Collector of Revenue has specifically instructed you otherwise.

Mailing warning: East Hampton warns taxpayers using bank bill-pay services that financial institutions may send checks without a USPS postmark. A late-arriving payment without an acceptable postmark can be treated as late. The Town also says bill numbers can change from year to year, so update saved bill-pay information before sending a new payment.
Use the current address: The Town specifically warns that its Town Hall address changed when the newer facility opened. Use 1 Community Drive, East Hampton, CT 06424 rather than an older saved address.
FY 2026/2027

East Hampton property tax due dates

For the Town’s 2026/2027 fiscal-year information, real estate tax bills over $100 are payable in two installments. A real estate tax bill under $100 is payable in one installment.

Current East Hampton tax dates published by the Collector of Revenue
Tax type Installment rule Due date Last published date before delinquency
Real estate Over $100: two installments July 1, 2026 Delinquent after August 3, 2026
Real estate Second installment January 1, 2027 Delinquent after February 1, 2027
Real estate under $100 One installment July 1, 2026 Check current account if unpaid
Motor vehicle over $500 Two installments July 1, 2026 and January 1, 2027 After August 3, 2026 and February 1, 2027
Supplemental motor vehicle One installment January 1, 2027 Delinquent after February 1, 2027
Personal-property date caution: The Town’s current Collector page includes a date inconsistency in the first-installment delinquency line for personal property. Business taxpayers should confirm the current deadline with the Collector of Revenue instead of relying on that conflicting line.

The Town also states that failure to receive a tax bill does not remove the taxpayer’s responsibility for paying the tax and applicable interest. If a bill is missing, contact the office before the deadline rather than waiting for another notice.

Tax calculation

East Hampton’s FY 2026/2027 mill rate

The Collector of Revenue and Assessor currently list a 27.79 mill rate for real estate, personal property and motor vehicles for FY 2026/2027.

What a mill means: One mill equals $1 of tax for each $1,000 of taxable assessed value. The actual bill depends on the property’s assessed value, applicable exemptions and the tax rate used for the relevant Grand List.

Do not estimate a payment from market value alone. East Hampton’s Assessor determines taxable assessments, while the Collector of Revenue bills and collects the resulting tax.

Delinquent accounts

What happens if an East Hampton property tax is late?

Connecticut law generally treats an unpaid municipal tax installment as delinquent after the statutory payment period and applies interest back to the original due date. Current state law provides for interest at 18% per year, calculated as 1.5% for each month or fraction of a month, subject to the statutory rules governing municipal tax collections.

Do not calculate an old balance yourself: Interest can depend on the exact due date, the number of months or partial months outstanding, prior payments and collection costs. Use the official account system or ask the Collector of Revenue for the payoff amount for the date you intend to pay.

If your payment is already late

Open the official account and identify every unpaid year or installment.
Confirm the current balance rather than paying only the original bill amount.
If mailing a payment, ask whether the amount will remain valid through the expected delivery date.
Keep proof of payment and recheck the account after processing.

East Hampton also maintains enforcement authority for delinquent municipal taxes. Serious or extended real-estate delinquencies can lead to collection actions and, in qualifying cases, tax-sale proceedings. Anyone who has received a demand notice or tax-sale notice should contact the Collector of Revenue promptly rather than relying on an older online balance.

Mortgage escrow

If your mortgage company should pay the tax

If a real-estate tax bill should be paid through escrow but you received the bill directly, the Town instructs taxpayers to contact their escrow agent or mortgage company. The mortgage company must arrange responsibility for payment and future billing information with the Collector of Revenue.

Do not assume receiving a paper bill means you must pay it twice. First verify whether your lender has already scheduled or made the payment. If the due date is close and the account still shows unpaid, contact both the lender and Tax Office.

If you receive a bill for real estate you no longer own, notify the Collector of Revenue so the Town can review the account and ownership information.

Right department

Collector of Revenue vs. East Hampton Assessor

The two offices handle different parts of the property-tax process. Sending an assessment problem to the Collector can delay the answer because the Collector generally does not establish the taxable value.

Call the Collector of Revenue for Tax balances, payment posting, tax bills, due dates, delinquent amounts, payment methods, tax-payment records and collection questions.
Call the Assessor for Property assessments, valuation questions, property record information, many exemptions, tax-relief eligibility and assessment-related corrections.
Call your mortgage company for Escrow payments, lender disbursement timing and questions about whether the lender has received or paid your bill.
Contact Connecticut DMV when required for Motor-vehicle registration and address information that must be corrected through DMV rather than only through the local Tax Office.

East Hampton Assessor contact

The Assessor’s Office currently lists 860-267-2510. Its office hours generally match the Town Hall schedule: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.; Tuesday 8:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m.; and Friday 8:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

Exemptions & relief

Property tax relief and exemptions

East Hampton’s Assessor administers several property-tax relief or exemption programs. Eligibility, documentation and filing periods vary, so these applications should be handled with the Assessor rather than waiting until a tax bill is due.

Elderly or totally disabled homeowners

The Town lists an elderly/totally disabled homeowner program with income limits and a filing period generally running from February 1 through May 15.

Local property-tax freeze

East Hampton also lists a local-option freeze with age, residency, property-occupancy and income requirements. Deferred amounts can create a lien, so applicants should review the program terms carefully.

Veterans

Veterans and qualifying family members may have access to state-mandated or local-option exemptions. Some benefits require discharge records, disability documentation or income information by specific filing dates.

Disability-related exemptions

The Assessor lists programs involving total disability, blindness and certain specially equipped vehicles. Each has its own qualification and evidence requirements.

Relief programs can change: Do not rely on an old income limit or prior-year application. Check the current Assessor instructions for the assessment year in which you are applying.
