Choose the Right Palm Beach County Tax Office
The Constitutional Tax Collector serving Palm Beach County handles far more than property tax. Residents use the office for tax payments, driver licenses, vehicle and vessel transactions, business tax, reservations and several state-related services.
This guide helps you choose the correct office, avoid an unnecessary trip, understand current property-tax timing and prepare for a reservation before you arrive.
Belle Glade, Greenacres, West Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Delray Beach and Westlake.
Monday–Friday, 8:15 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Reservation required.
Sep. 30: IPP payment + LBTR renewal.
Start with the service—not the nearest office
Check online options first. Property tax, registration renewal, driver-license renewal and several tax services may not require an office visit.
Use the reservation workflow, select the correct service category, gather every listed document, then choose the location.
Do not assume normal payment methods still apply. Delinquent real-estate tax has different payment restrictions and cannot be paid online.

How to book a reservation without losing the time slot
The official system is reservation-only for in-person service. The newest reservation process also uses email verification, so booking is not complete just because you entered a preferred date.
How early should you reserve?
The 2026 Tax Planner describes its lead times as planning estimates and says reservations can be scheduled up to 60 days ahead. A newer Tax Talk update says email verification has improved availability—for example, average driver-license/ID lead time fell from a previous 20–30 days to about 5–12 days. Availability can still change by service, location and demand, so use the live scheduler rather than treating any estimate as a guaranteed wait.

How to pay Palm Beach County property tax without choosing the wrong account
Read the tax bill before you decide who to call
The official 2026 Tax Planner breaks a real-estate bill into fields that answer different questions. Reading those fields first can keep a payment issue from being sent to the Property Appraiser—and keep a value/exemption issue from being sent to the Tax Collector.
| Bill field | What it tells you | Who fixes a problem |
|---|---|---|
| Property Control Number (PCN) | Identifies the parcel and is the strongest reference for payment/account research. | Use it with either office; Tax Collector for payment, Property Appraiser for parcel record. |
| Property owner | Name attached to the tax roll when the bill was produced. | Property Appraiser for ownership-record questions; Tax Collector for payment status. |
| Mailing address | Where the bill is sent. | Property Appraiser maintains the mailing address used for the bill. |
| Assessed / exemption / taxable value | Assessment and approved exemption amounts used before tax rates are applied. | Property Appraiser, not the payment counter. |
| Ad valorem taxes | Taxable value multiplied by the applicable millage rates. | Value issue: Property Appraiser; millage questions: taxing authority listed on TRIM/bill. |
| Non-ad valorem assessments | Charges not calculated from property value, such as certain service assessments. | Contact the levying authority shown on the bill for the underlying assessment. |
| Discount amount / amount due | Month-specific amount the Tax Collector can accept before delinquency. | Tax Collector. |
| Delinquent-tax message | Signals that normal current-tax checkout may no longer apply. | Tax Collector at 561-355-2264 for current payoff/payment route. |
Why can a neighbor with a similar home pay a different amount?
The official planner explains that homestead assessment caps, non-homestead caps, purchase timing, portability and exemptions can produce different taxable values even for similar properties. A neighbor’s bill is therefore not a reliable benchmark for whether your own bill is correct.
New owner, escrow or missing bill?
2026 Palm Beach County property-tax and installment-plan timing
- November: 4%
- December: 3%
- January: 2%
- February: 1%
- March: no discount
- April 1: delinquent if unpaid
Estimated property tax must total more than $100. The formal plan is separate from simply sending a partial payment on a normal bill.
Installment Payment Plan or homestead tax deferral?
These programs solve different problems. The Installment Payment Plan spreads a future/current annual tax cycle into scheduled payments. Homestead tax deferral delays qualifying taxes and assessments but creates a priority lien and accrues interest.
| Program | Who may qualify | Key deadline | Important consequence |
|---|---|---|---|
| Installment Payment Plan | Estimated property/tangible tax over $100; timely enrollment and first payment. | Enroll Nov. 1–Apr. 30. Current 2026 participants: second payment Sep. 30. | Four scheduled payments; total discount is slightly under 4% when deadlines are met. |
| Homestead tax deferral | Homestead-qualified owners meeting income, mortgage and insurance conditions. | Application must be received by March 31 for the current Nov.–Mar. tax period. | Deferred amount becomes a priority lien and accrues interest, capped by the program at 7% per year. |
2026 IPP schedule for current participants
The second installment is one-quarter of estimated tax with the plan’s published 4.5% discount.
The third payment is calculated from the remaining balance after the earlier installments and carries the plan’s published 3% discount.
The final installment pays the remaining balance. Any unpaid property tax after April 1 moves into delinquent status.
The IPP page describes later catch-up handling, but do not estimate the catch-up amount yourself; use the current installment bill/account.
Homestead deferral has stricter eligibility
The official Tax Collector page requires homestead eligibility, income proof, a primary mortgage no greater than 70% of assessed homestead value, and sufficient fire/extended-coverage insurance with the required loss-payable clause. Full or partial deferral depends on age and household adjusted gross income.
Online, service-center, drop-box and mail payment differences
| Route | Typical processing / lead time | Accepted for current real-estate tax | Practical warning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Online | 1–3 business days | eCheck and credit/debit card | eCheck is free; cards cost 2.4% with $2 minimum. |
| Service center | Reservation lead time commonly 1–3 business days | Check, money order, cashier’s check, card and cash | Reservation required for counter service. |
| Drop box | About 5–7 business days | Check, money order, cashier’s check | No reservation is needed just to use a secure drop box. |
| 10–15 business days in Nov.–Mar.; general guidance lists 3–5 business days Apr.–Oct after receipt | Check, money order, cashier’s check | Postal delivery time is additional to office processing time. | |
| Wire transfer | About 1–3 business days | Current/delinquent tax wire route under official instructions | Use the office’s exact wire instructions. |
Mail a current property-tax payment without creating a processing delay
P.O. Box 3353
West Palm Beach, FL 33402-3353
Use the live official instructions if the account is delinquent or your bill shows a different special-payment route.
- Make check, money order or cashier’s check payable to Tax Collector, PBC.
- Pay in full using U.S. funds.
- Do not tape, fold, staple or paper-clip the payment.
- Do not write on the payment stub.
- Keep the cancelled check as payment evidence.
Current cash-change policy
Due to the national penny shortage, the Tax Collector says service centers can no longer provide pennies as change. Cash transactions requiring change are rounded to the nearest nickel under the published rule. Use exact cash, check or electronic/card payment when you want to avoid cash rounding.
Delinquent Palm Beach County real-estate tax uses different rules
Once real-estate property tax is delinquent, do not reuse the normal current-tax checkout instructions. The Tax Collector’s delinquent-payment page changes both the available payment channels and accepted payment types.
- Online payment is not available for delinquent real-estate tax.
- Postmark is not proof of payment once delinquent.
- The payment must be received by the office under the current delinquent instructions.
- Interest and penalties apply.
The delinquent real-estate payment page lists cash, money order and cashier’s check for service-center payment. It lists no credit/debit card and no personal check for that delinquent route.
What a tax certificate sale means—and what it does not mean
A tax certificate is a lien for unpaid real-estate property tax. The investor pays the delinquent tax in exchange for a bid rate of return; buying the certificate does not immediately make the investor the property owner.
Driver license, vehicle registration and kiosk options
Out-of-state title with a lienholder: plan before reserving
If an out-of-state vehicle title is held by a lienholder, the Tax Collector publishes a location-specific lienholder-letter process. This is one of the easiest transactions to delay by reserving too soon or choosing the wrong office.
MV Express kiosks, South County extras and service-specific appointments
MV Express registration kiosks
The 2026 Tax Planner lists registration-renewal kiosks at selected Publix locations in communities including Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, West Palm Beach, Palm Springs, Boynton Beach, Golf, Lake Worth Beach, Royal Palm Beach and Boca Raton. Eligible transactions can print the registration and decal on the spot.
South County: TSA PreCheck and digital fingerprinting
The official 2026 Tax Planner identifies the South County Service Center in Delray Beach as the county Tax Collector location for these selected services. They use their own appointment/prepayment workflow rather than the ordinary tax-payment reservation.
The planner lists South County appointments Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.–3:40 p.m., scheduled and prepaid through IDEMIA/IdentoGO.
The planner lists appointment-only service at South County Monday–Friday, 12:00 p.m.–3:40 p.m., with prepayment through IdentoGO.
Tangible personal property tax: the $25,000 threshold and delinquency risk
Tangible personal property tax applies to business furniture, fixtures, machinery, equipment and other taxable business assets. The Property Appraiser determines value; the Tax Collector collects the resulting bill.
The Tax Collector says no tangible personal property tax is due at or below this assessment level. An initial return must still be filed with the Property Appraiser; if the value remains below $25,000, subsequent returns are generally not required.
Tax liability follows the tangible personal property, not merely the former owner. Check for unpaid TPP before buying a business, mobile home or rental property with taxable assets.
Current and delinquent TPP are not handled like delinquent real estate
Unlike delinquent real-estate tax, the Tax Collector allows current and delinquent tangible personal property tax to be paid online. Standard online processing is about 1–3 business days; eCheck is free and card payments carry the published 2.4% fee with $2 minimum.
Closing a business does not erase the existing tax bill
If the business existed on January 1 of the assessment year, the Tax Collector says that year’s bill remains valid. Notify the Property Appraiser of the closure and status of the assets so the business is not incorrectly assessed in a later year.
Local Business Tax Receipt renewal: avoid the October penalty ladder
If you sell merchandise or provide services in Palm Beach County, a county Local Business Tax Receipt may be required even for a one-person or home-based business. It does not replace state licensing, zoning or a municipal business tax receipt when those separately apply.
| Date | Published consequence | Best action |
|---|---|---|
| October 1 | 10% penalty | Renew before this date whenever possible. |
| November 1 | 15% penalty | Use the live business-tax account, not an old notice amount. |
| December 1 | 20% penalty + $10 collection fee | Resolve promptly if proof of active receipt is needed. |
| January 1 | 25% penalty + $10 collection fee | Confirm the full balance before paying. |
| February 1 | Subject to $250 fine under the cited Florida statute | Contact Business Tax if account status is unclear. |
| April 1 | Warrant + $75 Revenue Recovery Solutions fee | Use current collection instructions immediately. |
Opening, moving or closing a business
Tourist Development Tax: 6% rental tax and monthly filing
Palm Beach County Tourist Development Tax applies to taxable transient rentals of six months or less. The current Tax Collector page lists TDT at 6% of taxable rental receipts, in addition to state sales tax.
Tax Collector or Palm Beach County Property Appraiser?
| Your question | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| How much property tax do I owe? | Tax Collector | Collects the bill and shows payment status. |
| Did my mortgage company pay? | Tax Collector + lender | Check payment posting before making a duplicate payment. |
| Why is my assessed value higher? | Property Appraiser | The Appraiser determines assessment value. |
| Where is my homestead exemption? | Property Appraiser | Exemptions are assessment records, not Tax Collector approvals. |
| I need a delinquent payoff. | Tax Collector | Handles collection status and acceptable payment route. |
| My mailing address on the tax bill is wrong. | Property Appraiser | The tax bill is sent using the address on file with the Property Appraiser. |
How to use office reviews and photos without being misled
Google results often show separate review profiles for Belle Glade, Greenacres, Delray Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, West Palm Beach and Westlake. Ratings can differ substantially by branch and change as new reviews arrive, so a countywide guide should not freeze a live location rating as if it were permanent.
The Tax Collector’s FY 2024–25 Annual Report said the organization received 282 Google reviews during that fiscal year and reported a 3.8-star overall rating across more than 1,400 total Google reviews. Treat that as historical annual-report context—not today’s rating for any individual branch.
Third-party local listings show branch-level ratings and comments, but addresses, appointment buttons and service descriptions can be stale. Use reviews for experience patterns only; verify reservation rules, services, hours and addresses on PBCTax.gov.
Use official photos to recognize the right building
The Tax Collector’s location pages show current office images along with the address, service list and drop-box note. This is more useful for arrival planning than copying third-party photos that may be mislabeled or old.
