How to look up or pay Prospect taxes online
The Town of Prospect links taxpayers to its official tax-bill inquiry and online-payment system. The lookup can be used to review current bills, balances due, prior paid bills and payment history.
Use the Town of Prospect payment link rather than relying on an unfamiliar payment page found through an advertisement or search result.
The town says bills can be searched by name, property location, bill number, unique ID or list number.
You can review all bills, amounts currently due or accounts that still have a balance.
Confirm the taxpayer name, property or vehicle information and amount due before adding the bill to the payment cart.
Keep the payment confirmation and later verify that the payment has posted to the account.

When Prospect property and vehicle taxes are due
Prospect’s regular tax schedule depends on the type and amount of tax. Always check the current bill and official tax notice because the last day to pay without interest can shift when a deadline falls on a weekend or holiday.
Real estate taxes over $100 are normally divided into installments due July 1 and January 1.
Business personal property taxes over $100 follow the July 1 and January 1 installment schedule.
Regular motor vehicle taxes are generally due annually on July 1 for vehicles on the applicable October 1 Grand List.
Supplemental motor vehicle bills are generally due January 1 for qualifying vehicles added after the regular Grand List date.
What happens when a Prospect tax payment is late?
The Town of Prospect states that delinquent taxes and sewer-use fees are charged interest at 1.5% per month, or 18% annually, from the original due date. The town also publishes a $2 minimum interest charge per account.
If a bill shows “BACK TAXES DUE”, the current amount shown may not include every older tax and interest balance. The town says prior balances must be paid first, and payments can be applied to the older debt before the current bill.
Mailing a deadline-sensitive payment
For mailed tax payments, the Town of Prospect advises taxpayers to make sure the payment either arrives by the last day to pay without penalty or carries an acceptable official U.S. Postal Service postmark dated no later than that day.
Need a Connecticut DMV tax clearance?
If delinquent Prospect motor vehicle taxes are preventing a vehicle registration or renewal, do not assume an online payment will produce an immediate clearance.
The town states that personal or business checks and online payments can take approximately 7-10 business days after the payment file is received before DMV clearance is issued.
If a vehicle was sold, totaled, junked, stolen, donated or registered outside Connecticut during the relevant assessment period, the Tax Collector does not determine whether the assessment should be reduced. Contact the Prospect Assessor to ask whether a credit may apply and what evidence is required.
How to find a Prospect tax bill
The official tax-bill system supports several search methods, which is useful when you do not have a paper bill in front of you.
If you never received a tax bill, contact the Tax Collector rather than waiting. The town states that failure to receive a bill does not remove the underlying tax or statutory interest obligation.

The office publishes regular hours of Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The town’s FAQ says the office does not close for lunch.
Where is the Prospect Tax Collector located?
The office is in Prospect Town Hall at 36 Center Street, Prospect, Connecticut 06712.

Assessment changes and possible vehicle-tax credits are handled through the Prospect Assessor rather than the Tax Collector. This can apply when a vehicle was sold, totaled, junked, donated, stolen or registered outside Connecticut during the relevant period.
