Barnegat Township Property Tax Due Dates and Grace Period
The Township states that property taxes are due in four quarterly installments. The regular due dates are February 1, May 1, August 1 and November 1.
| Quarter | Regular due date | Grace-period rule |
|---|---|---|
| First quarter | February 1 | Township publishes a 10-day grace period. |
| Second quarter | May 1 | Township publishes a 10-day grace period. |
| Third quarter | August 1 | Check for a special extension if final tax billing is delayed. |
| Fourth quarter | November 1 | Township publishes a 10-day grace period. |
If the final day of the Township’s grace period falls on a weekend or Township holiday, Barnegat states that the grace period moves to the next Township business day. A quarter can also receive a special extension by municipal action, so verify the current notice rather than assuming an earlier year’s exception still applies.
What happens after the grace period?
Barnegat states that a payment received after the grace period is subject to interest calculated back to the original quarterly due date. The Township currently describes annual interest of 8% on amounts up to $1,500 and 18% on amounts over $1,500.
Ways to Handle a Barnegat Township Tax Payment
Use the official WIPP system to search the property account and follow the payment options displayed for that account.
The Tax/Utility Collector is located at 900 West Bay Avenue. Confirm current office availability before a deadline-sensitive visit.
The Township states that a black payment drop box is available in front of Town Hall in the horseshoe/U-shaped driveway for day-or-night drop-off.
ACH direct withdrawal
Barnegat’s official forms page includes an ACH Direct Withdrawal Application for taxes and water/sewer accounts as well as a form to discontinue ACH. Use the current Township form and follow its banking and authorization instructions rather than sending account information by ordinary email.
Property taxes and water/sewer are separate accounts
The Tax/Utility Collector also bills and collects Township water/sewer charges, but the schedules are different. Barnegat lists water/sewer installments for January 15, April 15, July 15 and October 15 and instructs taxpayers submitting both types of payment by check to use separate checks.
New Homeowners, Mortgage Escrow and Added Assessment Bills
If you recently bought the property
The Township warns that a tax bill does not always transfer from the seller at closing. The homeowner remains responsible for obtaining the bill and making sure the correct installments are paid. If you do not have the paper bill, use the live WIPP account or contact the Collector.
If your mortgage company pays the taxes
A mortgage company that is paying taxes can send the Township a tax authorization so it receives the original bill. The homeowner may receive an advice copy. Keep the copy and compare it with your escrow statements rather than assuming that receiving a bill means the lender has stopped paying.
If you receive an added assessment bill
Improvements to a property can produce an added assessment bill after the regular bill has already been issued. Barnegat says these bills may be generated in October and are payable in addition to the regular tax bill. A mortgage company may not automatically pay every added assessment, so confirm responsibility directly with the lender.
Tax Collector vs. Tax Assessor in Barnegat Township
The Collector and Assessor work with the same property-tax system but handle different problems. Calling the correct office can prevent unnecessary transfers.
| Your question | Best starting office | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Payment or balance | Tax/Utility Collector | Tax bill, payment posting, interest, delinquency, receipt, tax-sale balance. |
| Property value | Tax Assessor | Assessment, property record, ownership information and assessment questions. |
| Tax deductions | Tax Assessor | Senior citizen or veteran deduction eligibility and forms. |
| Mailing address | Tax Assessor | Updating the mailing address used for tax and water/sewer bills. |
The Township Tax Assessor page lists Kristen Peel as Assessor. The Assessor’s office is also at 900 West Bay Avenue and publishes regular hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
New Jersey Property Tax Relief and Barnegat Deductions
Barnegat’s Tax Collector page directs residents to New Jersey’s property-tax relief programs and identifies the combined PAS-1 application used for major programs including Senior Freeze, ANCHOR and Stay NJ where the applicant qualifies.
The Township also states that eligible residents may qualify for a $250 senior citizen deduction or a $250 veteran deduction. Questions about those municipal property-tax deductions belong with the Tax Assessor rather than the payment office.
Tax Sale, Liens and Redemption Requests
Barnegat Township participates in New Jersey’s tax-sale process for qualifying delinquent municipal charges. The Township’s 2026 municipal records authorize participation in an electronic tax sale, and the Collector page publishes tax-sale information when applicable.
If an account is already subject to a tax sale or tax-sale certificate, do not rely on the amount shown on an old bill. Ask the Collector for the exact amount and payment instructions because interest, municipal charges and redemption calculations can change the total.
Redemption request information
Barnegat provides a redemption-request process that asks for the block, lot, property owner, property location, redeeming party and payment date. Proof of legal interest may be required, and a homeowner may be asked for identification.
