For the Town’s 2026/2027 fiscal-year information, real estate tax bills over $100 are payable in two installments. A real estate tax bill under $100 is payable in one installment.
| Tax type | Installment rule | Due date | Last published date before delinquency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Real estate | Over $100: two installments | July 1, 2026 | Delinquent after August 3, 2026 |
| Real estate | Second installment | January 1, 2027 | Delinquent after February 1, 2027 |
| Real estate under $100 | One installment | July 1, 2026 | Check current account if unpaid |
| Motor vehicle over $500 | Two installments | July 1, 2026 and January 1, 2027 | After August 3, 2026 and February 1, 2027 |
| Supplemental motor vehicle | One installment | January 1, 2027 | Delinquent after February 1, 2027 |

East Hampton’s FY 2026/2027 mill rate
The Collector of Revenue and Assessor currently list a 27.79 mill rate for real estate, personal property and motor vehicles for FY 2026/2027.

What happens if an East Hampton property tax is late?
Connecticut law generally treats an unpaid municipal tax installment as delinquent after the statutory payment period and applies interest back to the original due date. Current state law provides for interest at 18% per year, calculated as 1.5% for each month or fraction of a month, subject to the statutory rules governing municipal tax collections.
If your payment is already late
East Hampton also maintains enforcement authority for delinquent municipal taxes. Serious or extended real-estate delinquencies can lead to collection actions and, in qualifying cases, tax-sale proceedings. Anyone who has received a demand notice or tax-sale notice should contact the Collector of Revenue promptly rather than relying on an older online balance.
If your mortgage company should pay the tax
If a real-estate tax bill should be paid through escrow but you received the bill directly, the Town instructs taxpayers to contact their escrow agent or mortgage company. The mortgage company must arrange responsibility for payment and future billing information with the Collector of Revenue.
If you receive a bill for real estate you no longer own, notify the Collector of Revenue so the Town can review the account and ownership information.
Collector of Revenue vs. East Hampton Assessor
The two offices handle different parts of the property-tax process. Sending an assessment problem to the Collector can delay the answer because the Collector generally does not establish the taxable value.
East Hampton Assessor contact
The Assessor’s Office currently lists 860-267-2510. Its office hours generally match the Town Hall schedule: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.; Tuesday 8:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m.; and Friday 8:00 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
Property tax relief and exemptions
East Hampton’s Assessor administers several property-tax relief or exemption programs. Eligibility, documentation and filing periods vary, so these applications should be handled with the Assessor rather than waiting until a tax bill is due.
The Town lists an elderly/totally disabled homeowner program with income limits and a filing period generally running from February 1 through May 15.
East Hampton also lists a local-option freeze with age, residency, property-occupancy and income requirements. Deferred amounts can create a lien, so applicants should review the program terms carefully.
Veterans and qualifying family members may have access to state-mandated or local-option exemptions. Some benefits require discharge records, disability documentation or income information by specific filing dates.
The Assessor lists programs involving total disability, blindness and certain specially equipped vehicles. Each has its own qualification and evidence requirements.
