Payment

How to pay a Monroe CT tax bill

The Town provides online, in-person and mail payment routes. During the July and January collection periods, the Town’s payment schedule also identifies Newtown Savings Bank in Monroe as an additional payment location.

Open the Town-linked tax bill system Use Monroe’s official MyTaxBill page to search current and prior tax bills. Avoid submitting tax information through an unrelated search result or advertisement.
Find the correct account Match the owner, property or bill information carefully. If the amount looks wrong, stop before paying and compare it with the bill or contact the Tax Collector.
Review the balance and tax year Check whether the account has one or more installments, an older balance, interest or other collection activity.
Choose the payment method Online payments may be made electronically, while the Town also accepts payments at the Tax Collector’s counter and by mail.
Review any processing fee Electronic payment fees are charged by the processing company. Confirm the displayed fee before authorizing the transaction.
Keep confirmation Save the confirmation page, receipt number or other payment record until the payment appears correctly on the tax account.

Pay by mail

Mail tax payments to:

Town of Monroe Tax Collector
7 Fan Hill Road
Monroe, CT 06468

The Town’s tax FAQ instructs taxpayers who want a mailed receipt to send the entire bill with a stamped, self-addressed envelope. Checks should be payable to the Town of Monroe.

Pay in person

Payments can be brought to the Tax Collector’s Office at Monroe Town Hall, 7 Fan Hill Road. Because office closures can occur for holidays or special circumstances, check the Town website before making a time-sensitive trip.

July and January option: Monroe’s published payment schedule states that payments are also accepted at Newtown Savings Bank in Monroe during the July and January collection periods. Verify the current participating location before relying on the bank option.
Deadlines

Monroe property tax due dates

The Town mails annual tax bills near the end of June. Its current payment schedule says the bill includes July and January payment stubs.

Town of Monroe published tax payment schedule
Installment Due date Town-published last day without penalty What happens next
First half July 1 August 1 Unpaid balances become delinquent after the applicable grace period.
Second half January 1 February 1 The Town says delinquent notices are mailed in mid-February.
Do not treat the grace-period date as a different due date. The Town lists the installments as due July 1 and January 1, while also publishing August 1 and February 1 as the last days to pay without penalty under its schedule.

When a published deadline falls around a weekend, holiday or unusual Town closure, confirm the applicable payment rule directly with the Tax Collector rather than assuming the deadline automatically changes.

Online payment costs

Convenience fees for online tax payments

The Town states that online convenience fees go to the payment-processing company rather than to the Town.

Fees currently displayed on Monroe’s Tax Collector page
Payment type Published fee Practical check
Credit/debit card 2.99% of payment, minimum $3.95 Review the processor’s final fee before submitting.
e-Check $0.95 Confirm the bank and routing information carefully.
Town-page discrepancy: the main Tax Collector page currently lists a 2.99% credit/debit fee with a $3.95 minimum, while a separate Town tax-information page still displays 2.95%. Because the processor controls the transaction screen, use the fee shown at checkout as the final amount and contact the Tax Collector if it differs unexpectedly.

Records & assessment

Tax bill lookup vs. property assessment records

The tax-payment system and the Assessor’s property database serve different purposes. Use the tax bill system when you need a balance, payment status or prior bill. Use the assessment database when you need the property’s assessed value or parcel record.

You need to pay or confirm a balance Open the Town-linked MyTaxBill system or contact the Tax Collector.
You need an assessed value or parcel record Use Monroe’s Vision Government Solutions assessment database or the Assessor’s Office.
You believe the assessment itself is wrong Start with the Assessor rather than asking the Tax Collector to change the value.
You paid but the tax account does not show it Keep your confirmation and contact the Tax Collector with the account and payment information.
2024 revaluation: Monroe’s assessment database states that the Town and Vision Government Solutions completed a revaluation of real property for the October 1, 2024 Grand List, with assessed values representing 70% of fair market value as of that assessment date.
2026–2027 tax rate

Monroe CT mill rate for FY 2026–2027

The Town’s approved annual budget for fiscal year 2026–2027 calculates a mill rate of 29.88 on the 2025 Grand List. A mill represents $1 of tax for each $1,000 of taxable assessed value.

Simple estimate

Taxable assessment × 0.02988 gives a basic annual tax estimate before applicable exemptions, credits, adjustments or other account-specific changes.

Why some Town pages may show 28.67: parts of Monroe’s tax website still display the prior FY 2025–2026 rate. For current FY 2026–2027 planning, the Town’s approved FY27 budget is the stronger current source for the 29.88 mill rate.

Do not use a calculation alone as a payment amount. The actual bill and official account balance control what is due.

Late balances

What happens if a Monroe tax bill is delinquent?

The Tax Collector handles current and delinquent accounts, delinquent notices, balance-due notices, liens, collection activity, refunds, bankruptcies and tax sales.

February

The Town’s payment schedule says delinquent notices are mailed in mid-February.

March

Delinquent personal property and motor vehicle accounts are listed by the Town for referral to a collection agency.

April

The Town’s schedule states that real-estate liens are filed in April.

Monroe’s tax definitions also explain that delinquent motor vehicle and personal property bills may be given to a collection agency, and that additional collection charges can apply. A real-estate account that remains delinquent can progress to lien or other collection action.

If you already have a delinquent balance: do not estimate what you owe from the original bill. Check the current account balance or contact the Tax Collector because interest, collection costs or other adjustments may have changed the payoff amount.

Payment not showing?

Confirm that the payment was submitted to the correct Monroe account.
Keep the processor confirmation or bank record.
Allow for the Town’s normal posting process before assuming the payment failed.
Call 203-452-2804 if the payment remains missing or the balance appears incorrect.
Motor vehicles

Monroe motor vehicle tax bills and corrections

Motor vehicle assessment questions and tax-payment questions are not always handled by the same office. The Assessor is responsible for vehicle assessments, while the Tax Collector handles payment and collection of the resulting tax bill.

If you sold, totaled or moved a vehicle

Monroe’s Assessor says a motor vehicle adjustment generally requires proof that the Connecticut registration was cancelled plus supporting documentation such as a bill of sale, trade-in paperwork, junk receipt, insurance total-loss statement or out-of-state registration, depending on the situation.

Supplemental motor vehicle bills

Vehicles newly registered after the October 1 assessment date, and certain plate transfers, can appear on the supplemental motor vehicle Grand List. Monroe states that these bills are typically issued late in the calendar year and are due in January.

Transferred plates: the Assessor explains that when a registration is transferred to another vehicle during the Grand List year, the credit is generally reflected through the supplemental billing process rather than by manually adjusting the original bill immediately.
