Midland County Tax Collector: Pay a Tax Bill or Visit the Right Office

The Midland County Tax Office is the county office headed by the Tax Assessor-Collector, but there is an important local distinction for property owners: Midland Central Appraisal District currently handles Midland County property-tax collections.

Use this page to pay or search a property-tax bill through the official Midland CAD system, confirm Tax Office and appraisal-district hours, and avoid taking an appraisal, vehicle or payment problem to the wrong counter.

Property-tax routing matters in Midland County: The Midland County Tax Office states that property-tax collections are located at the Midland Central Appraisal District. If your goal is to find a tax bill, pay property taxes, check a balance or ask about a property-tax collection issue, start with Midland CAD rather than assuming the County Tax Office counter at North A Street processes the payment.

Correct office first

Midland County Tax Office vs. Midland Central Appraisal District

“Midland County Tax Collector” can refer to two different needs. Midland County has an elected Tax Assessor-Collector and a county Tax Office, but the county directs property-tax collection questions to Midland Central Appraisal District. Midland CAD states that it performs assessment and collection services and has contracted with Midland County for property-tax collection.

1
Property tax bill or payment

Use Midland Central Appraisal District for the tax account, balance, online payment and property-tax collection questions.

2
Value, exemption or protest

Use Midland CAD for appraisal value, exemptions, property details, appraisal notices and Appraisal Review Board matters.

3
Vehicle or county tax-office service

Use the Midland County Tax Office for motor vehicle title and registration work and the other county services it lists.

Do not rely on the office name alone. In many Texas counties, the elected Tax Assessor-Collector directly runs property-tax collection. Midland County currently routes that collection function to Midland Central Appraisal District, so the local setup is worth checking before you drive to the County Annex.
Official payment route

How to pay Midland County property taxes online

Midland Central Appraisal District links to an official online tax-payment system. The live search page lets taxpayers search by account information and filter records by payment status. Start from Midland CAD or the direct tax-payment search rather than from a sponsored result or an unrelated property website.

Open the official Midland CAD tax-payment search Use the Midland Central Appraisal District payment system at midlandcad.propertytaxpayments.net/search.
Search with the strongest identifier you have The official system allows searching with an account number or property information. If you have the tax statement, use the account number printed on it. Otherwise, try the owner name, owner mailing address or property location.
Match the property before selecting payment Check the owner, property location, account number and tax year. Midland County contains many properties with similar owner names, so do not submit payment based on a name match alone.
Review paid or unpaid status and the live amount The payment search supports paid, unpaid or combined status results. For a delinquent bill, use the amount displayed by the current system rather than calculating a payment from an old statement.
Review the final payment screen Confirm the amount, selected account and any charge disclosed by the payment processor before authorizing the transaction. This guide does not publish an unverified card or electronic-check convenience fee.
Save your confirmation Keep the receipt or confirmation number with the tax year and account number until the payment appears correctly on the official record.
Account lookup

How to search Midland County property records before paying

Midland CAD provides a separate property-search system in addition to its tax-payment portal. The property database can be useful when you need to confirm the account, owner, property address, legal description, geographic ID or property ID before opening a payment record.

Owner name: useful when you do not have the tax statement.
Property address: confirm the actual property, not only the owner’s mailing address.
Property ID: a strong match when available on appraisal or tax records.
Geographic ID: another identifier available in the appraisal search.
Safer payment check: If the name is common or the mailing address recently changed, match more than one identifier before paying. The property location, owner, account or property ID and tax year should describe the same property.

Texas payment timing

When are Midland County property taxes due?

Texas property taxes are generally due when the bill is received. In most cases, January 31 is the last day to pay without delinquency, and unpaid taxes become delinquent on February 1. Midland CAD’s own FAQ gives the same general January 31 deadline.

Tax bills

Collections commonly begin around October after tax rates and the certified roll are available.

January 31

For most standard bills, pay by this date to avoid delinquency.

February 1

Most unpaid standard bills become delinquent and begin accruing penalty and interest.

A late-issued bill can have a different delinquency date

The Texas Comptroller explains that taxing units generally must provide at least 21 days to pay an original tax bill. If the original bill is mailed after January 10, the delinquency date can be postponed. Use the delinquency date printed on your actual statement rather than assuming February 1 applies to every corrected, supplemental or late-mailed bill.

What happens after a normal bill becomes delinquent?

For many standard delinquent Texas property-tax bills, a 6% penalty and 1% interest apply in the first month of delinquency. The statutory penalty can increase over later months, while interest continues to accrue. Additional collection-related charges may apply in qualifying cases.

Do not calculate a delinquent payoff from memory. Search the live Midland CAD tax account or contact the collections office for the current payoff amount. A prior tax statement may not include later penalty, interest or collection charges.
Value is not the same as payment

Use Midland CAD for appraised value, exemptions and protests

If the amount of tax seems wrong because you believe the property’s appraised value is incorrect, an exemption is missing or the property record needs attention, a payment receipt alone will not fix the underlying appraisal issue. Midland Central Appraisal District administers the appraisal roll and provides appraisal-related forms and protest resources.

Appraised value looks too high Review the appraisal record and protest procedures through Midland CAD and the Appraisal Review Board process.
Homestead or other exemption is missing Use Midland CAD’s exemption information and forms rather than asking the County Tax Office vehicle counter.
Mailing address is wrong Use the appraisal district’s address-change process so future appraisal and tax records can be corrected through the responsible system.
Payment has not posted Treat this as a collection/payment issue. Contact Midland CAD with the account number, tax year and payment evidence.
Special payment situations

Installments and unusual property-tax deadlines

Texas law provides special installment options in certain circumstances. Qualifying homeowners who are age 65 or older or disabled, and certain qualifying disabled veterans or surviving spouses, may be able to pay homestead taxes in four installments when statutory conditions are met.

Texas also provides installment provisions for certain property affected by a qualifying disaster or emergency. These programs have eligibility requirements and deadlines, so do not divide a bill into installments on your own without confirming that your property qualifies.

For a normal February 1 delinquency date: the Texas Comptroller describes qualifying four-installment schedules with the first payment made before delinquency and later installments due before April 1, June 1 and August 1. Different delinquency dates can change the schedule.
County Tax Office services

What the Midland County Tax Office handles besides property taxes

The County Tax Office remains an important public office even though Midland CAD performs property-tax collections. Midland County lists motor vehicle title and registration work and several licensing-related services at the Tax Office.

Motor vehicle registration and certificates of title, including trailers.
Special license plates and disabled placards.
Temporary vehicle permits and replacement plate services.
Boat and motor registration and title applications.
Hunting and fishing licensing, subject to the office’s published service schedule.
Beer and liquor licensing information and related county tax-office functions.
Planning a title visit? The official Tax Office page says no titles are processed after 4:45 PM. Arriving before that cutoff does not guarantee a specific transaction can be completed if required documents are missing, so check the motor-vehicle requirements before traveling.

Property location or situs address.
Tax year involved.
Tax statement or notice, if available.
Receipt, confirmation number or canceled-check information for a missing payment.
