Plymouth MA Tax Collector: Pay Property Tax, Office & Hours

The Town of Plymouth Treasurer / Collector handles real estate and personal property tax collections, along with motor vehicle and boat excise and other municipal bills. For property taxes, you can pay through the Town’s online payment page, visit Town Hall, mail a payment, or use the payment options at the rear of Town Hall.

This page explains the current office location and hours, FY2027 payment dates already posted by the Town, late-payment rules, property-record resources and which office to contact when the issue is the assessed value rather than the payment itself.

Current FY2027 timing: the Town’s Bill Information page lists the second-quarter preliminary real estate and personal property tax installment as due November 2, 2026. The Town had not yet populated specific FY2027 third- and fourth-quarter dates on that page when this guide was reviewed on October 7, 2026. Check the official Bill Information page before relying on a future date.

Billing calendar

Plymouth property tax due dates

Plymouth’s fiscal year runs from July 1 through June 30. Real estate and personal property bills are mailed in two billings but paid in four quarterly installments. Preliminary installments cover quarters 1 and 2; the actual bill covers quarters 3 and 4.

General Plymouth real estate and personal property billing cycle
Installment Bill type General due date What to know
Quarter 1 Preliminary August 1 For FY2027, the Town posted August 3, 2026 because the normal date did not fall on a business day.
Quarter 2 Preliminary November 1 For FY2027, the official posted due date is November 2, 2026.
Quarter 3 Actual February 1 The actual bill reflects the new assessment and fiscal-year tax amount.
Quarter 4 Actual May 1 Use the Town’s current Bill Information page for the specific fiscal-year date.

If the first day of the month falls on a weekend or holiday, the Town states that the quarterly installment is due on the following business day.

FY2027 dates currently published: the preliminary bill was mailed June 26, 2026. Quarter 1 was due August 3, 2026, and Quarter 2 is due November 2, 2026. Specific FY2027 Quarter 3 and Quarter 4 dates were not yet populated on the Town’s Bill Information table when checked on October 7, 2026.
Late balances

What happens if a Plymouth property tax bill is late?

The Town states that payments received after the applicable due date incur interest. For real estate and personal property taxes, a demand is generally issued after the fourth-quarter billing cycle when an unpaid balance remains.

$15 demand fee

The Town’s Bill Information guidance says a $15 demand fee is added when a demand is issued, in addition to the unpaid balance and applicable interest.

Missing the bill is not a waiver

The Treasurer / Collector states that failure to receive a bill does not remove the taxpayer’s obligation and that fees and interest are not waived simply because a bill was not received.

Do not ignore a real estate demand bill because your taxes are escrowed. The Collector specifically warns that a demand means the Town’s records still show an outstanding balance. Contact the Collector and, when applicable, your mortgage servicer to find out what was paid and when.

Tax title and Land Court notices

The Treasurer’s side of the office establishes and maintains tax-title accounts for delinquent taxes. A Land Court citation is more serious than an ordinary bill reminder: the Town explains that it can indicate a foreclosure-of-redemption proceeding involving unpaid real estate taxes.

If you receive a Land Court citation, follow the response deadline printed on the notice and consider obtaining appropriate legal advice. Do not rely on a general web article in place of the court papers or official instructions for your case.

Property lookup

Find Plymouth property values, parcels and tax records

The Collector handles payments and balances, while property valuation data is maintained through the assessing side of Town government. Plymouth provides a property-value search and a GIS map viewer for parcel and location information.

Need to pay or confirm an unpaid balance? Start with the Treasurer / Collector or the Town’s official payment system.
Need the assessed value or property characteristics? Use the Assessors’ property search or contact the Assessors’ Office.
Need a parcel map? Use the Town’s GIS viewer. The Town cautions that mapped parcel lines are graphic representations and may not be survey-accurate.
Need proof of what you paid? The Collector suggests checking retained tax bills, mortgage records and bank statements; a public-records request is another option.
Collector vs. Assessors

Who handles a tax amount, property value or abatement?

Many property-tax problems involve two different offices. The Treasurer / Collector handles collection questions such as payments, unpaid balances and overpayments. The Assessors determine property assessments and handle abatements and property-tax exemption applications.

Contact the Collector for
  • Current payment status
  • Outstanding property-tax balances
  • Overpayment questions
  • Demand bills
  • Tax-title collection questions
  • Payment methods and billing questions
Contact the Assessors for
  • Assessed property value
  • Property-record corrections
  • Real estate abatements
  • Property-tax exemptions
  • Assessment-related ownership or mailing information

Abatement deadline matters

Plymouth’s assessment guidance explains that the actual third-quarter bill is the bill associated with the new assessment and the abatement filing period. The Town’s Important Dates page lists February 1 as the normal final date for filing an abatement application, subject to the specific year’s calendar and official filing notice.

An abatement request does not replace the payment deadline. If you are challenging an assessment, follow the Assessors’ current filing instructions and separately confirm your tax-payment obligations with the appropriate office.
