Pay, Search or Resolve a Springfield Tax Bill
Choose the correct current or delinquent payment route, find the Collector/Treasurer office, search tax history or assessment records, and prepare for an excise, abatement, lien or closing question.
This page covers the City of Springfield at 36 Court Street. West Springfield has a separate Town Collector, Assessors Office and online-payment system.
Springfield and West Springfield are different municipalities. Match the municipality, parcel, bill type and fiscal year before entering payment information. A Springfield mailing address does not automatically mean the City of Springfield issued the bill.

Tax Lien Warning
⛔ Texas Attorney Fee Warning: After July 1, delinquent property taxes are referred to a collection attorney. An additional 15–20% attorney fee is added on top of your penalty and interest. On a $5,000 tax bill, this adds $750–$1,000 instantly. Pay before July 1 to avoid this.

Municipality check
City of Springfield or Town of West Springfield?
City of Springfield
Collector/Treasurer: City Hall, Room 112, 36 Court Street, Springfield, MA 01103.
Published hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Use West Springfield’s UniPay/property viewer—not Springfield’s portals.
Keyword clarification: “City of West Springfield” and “Town of West Springfield” refer to the same West Springfield municipal government, but it is separate from the City of Springfield across the Connecticut River.
Start on Springfield-MA.govUse the City’s Pay City Taxes, Fees & Tickets page so the correct payment partner and category are selected.
Choose current or delinquent firstCurrent fiscal-year taxes use City Hall Systems. Older real estate, personal property and excise balances use the delinquent Kelley & Ryan route.
Select the exact bill typeReal estate, personal property, motor vehicle excise, trash/refuse, parking and business-improvement bills use different identifiers.
Search with the strongest identifierUse the bill number first when available. For real estate, use the parcel number; for excise, confirm the registration plate.
Open and review the billMatch Springfield, bill year/fiscal year, taxpayer, parcel or plate, bill number and amount before adding it to the cart.
Review the payment methodChecking-account transfer is listed without a City fee. Credit-card payment carries a processor percentage shown before authorization.
Wait for the confirmation numberThe City states that payment is not processed until a confirmation number appears. Save it with the bill.
Legacy-browser warning: An older Collector page still contains Internet Explorer and third-party software-download language. Do not install an obsolete browser from an outside download link. Start from the current official City payment page in a modern browser and use the Tax Help form or 311 if it fails.

Best failed-search fix: Verify current versus delinquent first, then use only one strong identifier. An extra plate character, punctuation mark, wrong bill year or wrong category can hide the record.
Fees and proof
Payment cost, ACH safety and confirmation checks
Checking-account transfer
The City describes direct checking-account transfer as having no fee. Routing information may be validated, but the account number is not.
Credit card
A third-party percentage fee is displayed before submission. Review the actual amount and cancel before authorization if it is not acceptable.
Confirmation
No confirmation number means the City does not consider the online transaction processed. Save a screenshot or PDF immediately.
Bill type and fiscal year match
Parcel, plate or bill number match
Bank account number entered twice carefully
Final processor fee reviewed

Payment history rechecked after posting
Avoid duplicate payments. A pending bank debit or card authorization is not proof that the correct Springfield account posted. Check for a confirmation and call before submitting again.

Quarterly real estate calendar
Springfield MA property-tax issue and due dates
First-quarter bill issued July 1Payment due August 1.
Second-quarter bill issued October 1Payment due November 1.
Third-quarter bill issued January 1Payment due February 1; this bill begins the annual abatement-filing window.
Fourth-quarter bill issued April 1Payment due May 1.
Missing bill is not a defense. The City says failure to receive a tax bill does not invalidate the tax, interest or fines. Request a duplicate early; mailed duplicate bills may take about 10 business days.
Fiscal-year reminder: Springfield’s fiscal year begins July 1. A fiscal-year number and a calendar year are not always the same, so use the year printed in the official payment system.
How to search Springfield tax records and prior payments
The Springfield Tax Info system provides real estate tax records back to 2004 and also supports trash-fee and motor-vehicle excise history. It is a history/search tool—not a guaranteed payoff quote.
Use the name as printedSearch owner names last name first, without a comma, or try the last name alone.
Use City street abbreviationsEnter streets as they appear on the bill, such as ST rather than Street.
Use a wildcard when neededThe portal supports the % symbol for broader matching.
Open the correct year and bill typeCompare parcel, property, year, issue, payments and remaining amount.
Request a payoff separatelyFor a closing, lien, tax title or deadline-sensitive balance, contact the Collector or use the appropriate MLC/payoff route.
How to use the City of Springfield MA Assessors database
Choose desktop or mobile searchThe City provides a standard and a mobile-friendly assessment search.
Search by parcel or streetEnter a parcel number, or begin typing a street address and choose the correct popup suggestion.
Browse a street when the number is uncertainEnter only the street name, run the search and sort by street number or owner name.
Confirm the record cardCompare situs, map/parcel ID, assessed owner, class, land information, building description and assessed values.
Separate record data from a tax payoffThe property card explains the assessment. The Collector confirms the bill, payment and payoff.
FY2026 database basis: The City identifies FY2026 property descriptions as of June 30, 2025 and values as of January 1, 2025.
Room information conflict: The main Assessors page lists City Hall Room 9, while some live database pages show Room 10. Use 311 or 413-736-3111 to confirm the room before visiting.
Do not use the rate as a payoff calculator. A bill can include quarterly adjustments, exemptions, abatements, prior balances, interest, fees or tax-title amounts. Use the live Collector record.
Springfield property-tax abatement and appeal workflow
FY2026 filing is closed. The City listed Monday, February 2, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. as the FY2026 overvalue deadline. Confirm the next fiscal year’s exact date after the third-quarter bill is issued.
Review the property cardIdentify the specific error: overvaluation, disproportionate assessment, improper classification or statutory exemption.
Use comparable evidenceCompare similar property type, neighborhood, condition, size and sale timing. The City’s FY2026 residential-sales PDF lists parcel, land-use code, address, parties, sale date and price.
Wait for the correct filing windowSpringfield says real-estate abatement forms become available after the third-quarter bill is issued.
File by the exact fiscal-year deadlineDeliver or mail the signed application to the Assessors Office. The City also lists signed fax filing at 413-787-7721.
Provide requested information and accessFailure to supply valuation information or inspection access can lead to denial and can affect later appeal rights.
Continue paying the taxFiling does not postpone collection. Pay to avoid interest and protect appeal rights; an approved abatement is refunded or credited.
Track the decision and appeal windowThe Assessors generally have 90 days to act. A further Appellate Tax Board appeal generally must be filed within three months of the decision.
Sales-PDF use: The official FY2026 sales list is useful for identifying possible transactions, but a raw citywide sale is not automatically a valid comparable. Explain why selected sales match the subject property.

Late-excise cost sequence: Springfield’s FAQ describes 12% annual interest, a demand charge, warrant and deputy-collector fees, and a $20 RMV non-renewal marking charge. Request the live total rather than calculating from the original bill.
Abatement is not automatic: Cancelling registration while keeping the vehicle or moving to another Massachusetts municipality during the same calendar year does not by itself create excise-abatement eligibility.
New homeowner, seller, mortgage escrow or missing bill
Bill still shows the sellerThe City bills the January 1 assessed owner for that fiscal year. Do not cross out the name; use the parcel and closing records.
You bought after January 1The new owner is responsible after closing, subject to private tax proration shown in the settlement statement.
Seller received the billIt should be forwarded to the buyer. Waiting for the next name update can create late charges.
Mortgage lender should payAsk the lender for the payment date, amount, parcel and transaction/check reference; then verify the City’s posting.
Bill never arrivedRequest a duplicate through 311. Have the street and parcel code ready and allow about 10 business days for mail.
Address or owner record is wrongUse the Assessors change-of-address/record process. A Collector payment does not edit the assessment record.
Closing-document check: Ask whether the attorney obtained a Municipal Lien Certificate and compare it with the tax proration, current-quarter bill and post-closing payment plan.

Springfield tax liens, tax title payoff and repayment agreements
The City’s lien search is separate from the ordinary current-year payment portal. It can be searched by owner, parcel number, street or bill number.
Search the lien systemConfirm parcel, owner, years, tax, fees, interest and status.
Request an exact payoffThe City directs tax-title inquiries and payoff requests to Revenue Service LLC at 1-866-604-7216.
Verify where payment must goThe City’s lien page directs tax-title payments to the City of Springfield Treasurer’s Office at 36 Court Street.
Ask whether a repayment agreement is availableThe Collector/Treasurer page provides a repayment-agreement letter and application; eligibility and terms are account-specific.
Keep written proofRetain the payoff statement, accepted-funds instructions, receipt and updated lien status.
Do not mail a normal quarterly amount as a tax-title payoff. Interest, fees, legal status and accepted funds can change. Obtain a dated payoff first.
A Municipal Lien Certificate is used for closing, refinance, title, estate and legal due-diligence needs. It is more formal than a payment-history screen.
