Pay, Search or Fix a Lakewood Property Tax Account
Find the correct bill, call the right tax office, check Lakewood Township tax records and understand quarterly deadlines before interest, escrow or tax-sale issues become harder to resolve.

What do you need from the Lakewood tax office?
Use WIPP, verify the property and quarter, review the displayed payment terms and save confirmation.
Use the Township record lookup for block, lot, qualifier, property address, owner name and assessed-value questions.
Use the escrow, missing payment, appeal, interest, tax-sale or redemption path instead of guessing an amount.
How to view, print or pay a Lakewood property-tax bill
Search Lakewood Township tax records without using the wrong system
Lakewood provides two useful systems. One is designed for property and assessment records; the other is designed for bill detail and payment.
| Task | Correct system | Search fields | What it helps confirm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Find a property record | Township Tax Property Lookup | Block, lot, qualifier, property address or owner name | Assessment identity, ownership and property-record matching. |
| View or pay a bill | WIPP tax portal | Use the property information available in the portal | Current tax detail, printable bill and payment route. |
| Research county assessment/sales data | Ocean County Tax Board search | County tax-list and sales-search tools | County assessment and sales records used for research or appeal preparation. |
| Request a government record | Township Clerk OPRA route | Describe the identifiable government record | Records not supplied by the normal tax or assessment lookup. |

Lakewood property-tax due dates and the 10-day grace period
The statutory due date remains the first. Lakewood permits payment through the tenth without interest when the Township receives it by that date.
If the tenth falls on a weekend or legal holiday, the Township says payment may be received on the next business day.
Pay online, by ACH, by mail or at the Lakewood tax office
| Method | Useful when | Prepare | Important caution |
|---|---|---|---|
| WIPP online payment | You want to view the account and pay electronically. | Correct property, quarter, bank/card details and email. | Confirm the processor fee and total on the final screen. |
| No-fee ACH bank draft | You want automatic quarterly withdrawals. | Application, block/lot/qualifier, address, bank details and voided check/deposit slip. | Enroll or cancel at least three weeks before a scheduled draft. |
| You can allow enough delivery time. | Check or money order, payment coupon and account details. | The postmark does not protect the grace-period date. | |
| Tax office counter | You need staff help, a stamped bill or immediate receipt. | Bill, payment and account information. | Verify current hours and holiday closures first. |
| Lien redemption | A tax-sale certificate exists. | Written redemption calculation and guaranteed funds. | Do not use a normal quarterly amount. |

Enroll in Lakewood’s no-fee quarterly ACH bank-draft program
The ACH program is different from making a one-time WIPP payment. Once active, it withdraws the quarterly amount billed on the regular due dates.

How Lakewood describes delinquent interest and the year-end penalty
Do not calculate a serious delinquent payoff from an old bill. Interest changes with the receipt date, and lien or tax-sale costs may also apply.
| Situation | Township guidance | User action |
|---|---|---|
| Payment after the grace period | Interest is calculated from the first of the quarter through the date the payment is received. | Request the current total before paying. |
| First $1,500 of delinquency | The Township describes an 8% interest rate. | Use the Collector’s exact account calculation. |
| Amount over $1,500 | The Township describes an 18% rate on every dollar over $1,500 and says an account that exceeded $1,500 continues at 18% on remaining delinquency until current. | Do not use a simple flat-rate estimate. |
| December 31 balance over $10,000 | A 6% year-end penalty may be added to open past-due principal and interest. | Resolve a large balance before year-end when possible and verify the official payoff. |
| Returned ACH item | The ACH material states a $20 returned-item fee. | Call immediately because tax interest may continue. |
Lakewood tax sale does not mean the house is sold at the auction
The Township explains that its annual tax sale covers prior-year unpaid municipal charges such as property tax, water, sewer, maintenance liens and related charges. The sale creates or transfers a lien; it is not a normal sale of the real estate.
The Township says a third-party holder generally may begin foreclosure two years after the tax-sale date.
The Township says it may begin foreclosure six months after the tax sale when the lien is struck to Lakewood and remains unredeemed.
The Township code provides two free calculations per calendar year to a party entitled to redeem, then a $50 fee for later calculations; third-party lienholders are charged $50 per calculation.

Property-tax deductions, ANCHOR, Senior Freeze and Stay NJ
A relief application does not replace the Lakewood quarterly payment schedule. Continue monitoring and paying the municipal bill unless the responsible office gives different written instructions.
| Program or claim | Start with | Practical note |
|---|---|---|
| Senior citizen, disability or surviving-spouse deduction | Lakewood Tax Assessor | Use the current claim form and qualification rules. |
| Veteran or surviving-spouse deduction | Lakewood Tax Assessor or Collector under form instructions | Prepare ownership, residency and qualifying service documents such as DD214 when applicable. |
| Totally disabled veteran exemption | Lakewood Tax Assessor | This is an exemption route with specific disability, service, ownership and residency proof. |
| ANCHOR, Senior Freeze and Stay NJ | New Jersey Division of Taxation | The 2025 property-tax-relief application deadline is November 2, 2026. |
| PTR form municipal certification | Lakewood Tax Collector | Contact extension 5222 or taxcollector@lakewoodnj.gov; the Township notice says the form need not be dropped off or mailed when using this process. |
Official tax searches, duplicate bills and OPRA requests
The Township code lists a $10 fee for an official municipal-lien search, tax search, unassessed-improvement search or subdivision-approval certificate. Confirm the current request route before ordering.
The Township code authorizes up to $5 for the first duplicate requested by a bank or mortgage institution and up to $25 for each later duplicate of the same bill in the same calendar year.
Use the Township Clerk’s official OPRA portal for identifiable government records. Do not send an OPRA request through the Collector or Assessor contact form.

Lakewood Township Tax Collector FAQs
What is the Lakewood Township Tax Collector phone number?
Lakewood lists 732-364-2500 extension 5222 for the Tax Collector. The department page also lists 848-207-2711. Use the Collector for property-tax balances, payments, receipts, delinquency, tax-sale and redemption questions.
How do I pay Lakewood NJ property taxes online?
Open the official Lakewood WIPP portal, search for the property, select the correct record, review the tax detail and amount, then use the online payment option. Verify the owner, property address, block, lot, qualifier, year and quarter, and save the confirmation.
When are Lakewood Township property taxes due?
Taxes are due February 1, May 1, August 1 and November 1. Lakewood permits a 10-day grace period, but the payment must be received by the tenth. Postmarks do not control. If the tenth is a weekend or legal holiday, the deadline moves to the next business day.
How do I search Lakewood Township tax records?
Use the Township Tax Property Lookup for assessment records. It searches by block, lot, qualifier, property address or owner name. Use WIPP when the task is to view the current bill, tax detail or payment account.
What are the Lakewood Township Tax Collector office hours?
The Tax Collector lists hours of 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. at the Municipal Building, 231 Third Street, Lakewood, NJ 08701. Verify holiday or emergency closures before traveling.
Does Lakewood offer automatic ACH property-tax payments?
Yes. Lakewood offers a no-fee ACH bank-draft program. The authorization should be received at least three weeks before a scheduled draft, and the application requires property details, banking information and a voided check or savings deposit slip.
What happens if a Lakewood property-tax payment is late?
The Township says interest is charged from the statutory due date when payment arrives after the grace period. Its guidance describes 8% on the first $1,500 of delinquency and 18% on amounts over $1,500, plus a possible 6% year-end penalty when open principal and interest exceed $10,000 at December 31. Request a current payoff.
How do I appeal a Lakewood NJ property assessment?
Appeals are filed with the Ocean County Board of Taxation, not the Lakewood payment counter. The regular 2026 deadline was April 1, with May 1 for a district-wide revaluation or reassessment. Confirm the current filing year, deadline and requirements with the County Tax Board.
What is the difference between the Tax Collector and Tax Assessor?
The Collector handles bills, payments, receipts, interest, delinquency, tax sale and redemption. The Assessor handles assessed value, ownership and mailing records, property lookup, deductions, exemptions, assessment notices and appeal guidance.
What happens at a Lakewood Township tax sale?
The property itself is not sold at the municipal tax sale. A lien for prior unpaid municipal charges is sold or struck to the municipality. A lien must be redeemed in full using the amount and guaranteed-funds instructions supplied by the Tax Collector.
