Port St. Lucie Tax Collector: Office, DMV & Appointment

Port St. Lucie, Florida · Tax office, appointment, DMV and property-search guide

Choose the Right Office, Time Slot and Online Service

Port St. Lucie residents are served by the St. Lucie County Tax Collector. The two city locations are the Walton Road Office and the Tradition Office, but property-tax payment, tag renewal and many record searches can be completed online.

This guide separates Tax Collector services from Property Appraiser records, explains morning appointments versus afternoon walk-ins, and shows what to prepare for property tax, DMV, driver-license, business-tax and career searches.

Major correction from the old article: The nationwide deadline calculator and unrelated Texas attorney-fee warning have been removed. Port St. Lucie users now see only St. Lucie County and Florida-specific appointment, payment, delinquency and DMV guidance.

Tax Lien Warning

⛔ Texas Attorney Fee Warning: After July 1, delinquent property taxes are referred to a collection attorney. An additional 15–20% attorney fee is added on top of your penalty and interest. On a $5,000 tax bill, this adds $750–$1,000 instantly. Pay before July 1 to avoid this.

5
Check Tax Collector jobs

Use the official careers and job-postings pages. A listed role may be an active vacancy or an advance-interest posting.

Payment flexibility

Partial payments, installment plan and tax deferral

Partial payments

Up to three partial payments may be made from November through March. Each partial payment must be at least $100.

No early-payment discount applies, and no partial payment is accepted after March 31.

Four-installment plan

Installments are due in June, September, December and March with published discounts on the first three installments.

The estimated annual tax must exceed $100 and the application deadline is April 30.

Homestead tax deferral

This program may postpone a portion of taxes for qualifying homesteaded owners whose income is low relative to the tax.

It is not the same as homestead exemption or an installment plan.

Unpaid partial balance still becomes delinquent. A real-estate tax certificate can be sold on an unpaid balance, and a tangible-property tax warrant can be issued.

Document checklist for common driver-license service

Exact documents depend on citizenship, immigration status, name history and transaction type. The official document tool controls, but this checklist helps users prepare.

Original or certified proof of identity, such as an accepted birth certificate or passport
Proof of Social Security number
Two accepted proofs of St. Lucie County residential address
Certified name-change documents when the current name differs
Current driver license or ID when replacing, renewing or upgrading
Vehicle registration and Florida insurance for a road-test vehicle
Certification of driving experience when an applicant under 18 requires it
Separate appointment confirmation for every person receiving service
A hospital birth record is not the same as a certified birth certificate. Review the official accepted-document list before the appointment, particularly for REAL ID or an out-of-state credential exchange.

Official careers route

Start on the Tax Collector careers page, then open Job Postings. The office describes work involving property taxes, vehicle/vessel services, driver licenses and business-tax administration.

Eligible employees may receive medical insurance, Florida Retirement System participation and identity-theft protection.

Current-posting caution

At the August 4, 2026 source review, the official job-postings page displayed a Customer Service Representative opportunity.

The careers page warns that some postings can remain available to collect advance interest even when there is no immediate vacancy.

Read status and location carefullyConfirm whether the position is actively hiring, a future-interest pool, full-time or tied to a particular branch.

Submit only through the official recruiting routeKeep a copy of the application and posting because availability can change.
Other Tax Collector services

Local business tax, tourist tax and public records

Local Business Tax Receipt

Businesses and professions located in St. Lucie County generally need a county Business Tax Receipt. Annual renewal begins in July and is due September 30; late penalties begin October 1.

Tourist Development Tax

The office administers the county tourist tax on qualifying short-term rental revenue. Use the dedicated official portal rather than the real-estate property-tax checkout.

Public records requests

The Tax Collector accepts requests in person, by phone, mail or email. The public-records custodian contact is separate from ordinary tax-payment support.

Property Appraiser tangible return: Business-property assessment returns belong with the Property Appraiser. The Tax Collector collects the certified tangible-property bill after assessment.
Past-due property tax

Delinquent real-estate and tangible-property taxes

Delinquency beginsUnpaid real-estate and tangible-personal-property taxes become delinquent on April 1.
Tangible-property warrantsThe Tax Collector begins processing tax warrants on delinquent tangible personal property.
Real-estate tax certificatesAfter required advertising, the tax-certificate sale begins on or before June 1.
Do not pay the amount from an old saved bill. Delinquent balances can include statutory charges, advertising costs or certificate-related amounts. Search the current account or ask the Tax Collector for the payoff.
Tax certificate is not the final tax deed step. A later tax-deed process can involve the Clerk of Court. Owners, lienholders and certificate buyers should use official Tax Collector and Clerk resources for a specific property.
Useful delinquent-tax call script“I need the current payoff for account [number] at [property address] for tax year [year]. Please confirm the total through [payment date], whether a tax certificate or warrant is involved, and the accepted replacement-payment method.”
Micro troubleshooting

Common Port St. Lucie tax and DMV problems

Property-tax bill not foundTry the parcel/account ID, owner name with fewer words and property address. Confirm the property is in St. Lucie County.
Tax amount looks too highCompare the TRIM notice, assessed value, exemptions and non-ad valorem charges. Value/exemption issues go to the Property Appraiser.
Online payment is still pendingDo not immediately submit another payment. Save the first confirmation and recheck posting or call the office.
E-check was returnedContact the Tax Collector for payment instructions and applicable service charge. Do not retry with a money-market account.
No DMV appointment is availableCheck all three branches, choose another date, or use afternoon walk-in service when the transaction permits. Road tests still require an appointment.
Out-of-county customerThe appointment page says the offices are currently serving St. Lucie residents or people establishing residency. Use your home county office.
Name or legal description is wrongContact the Property Appraiser or the recording office as appropriate; the Tax Collector cannot rewrite the certified assessment record.
Need a mailed receiptInclude a self-addressed stamped envelope with the payment or print the paid receipt after the transaction posts online.
Need a road testChoose Fort Pierce or Tradition and book the test. Walton Road is not listed as a road-test location on the driver-license page.
Job posting disappearedThe vacancy may have closed or changed. Recheck the official postings page instead of relying on a cached job board.
