Williamson County, Texas ยท 2026 property-tax and office guide
Find the Right Tax Record, Payment Route or Office
Search a Williamson County property account, compare online and offline payment costs, find the relocated Georgetown office or Round Rock branch, and route value, exemption, vehicle and delinquent-account questions to the office that can actually solve them.
This guide incorporates the July 2026 officeholder change and Georgetown move. Use official county systems for live balances, transactions, appointments and account records.
2026 office update: Catherine Totty began serving as Williamson County Tax Assessor-Collector on July 21, 2026, and the Georgetown Tax Office moved from 904 S. Main Street to 1848 Texas Trail. Some older county subpages and search results still show Larry Gaddes or the old address. Use the current tax homepage, payment page and location page before mailing money or traveling.

Tax Lien Warning
⛔ Texas Attorney Fee Warning: After July 1, delinquent property taxes are referred to a collection attorney. An additional 15–20% attorney fee is added on top of your penalty and interest. On a $5,000 tax bill, this adds $750–$1,000 instantly. Pay before July 1 to avoid this.

What should you do first?
1
You have a tax statement
Search with the account or Quick Ref ID, verify the 2026 bill and choose eCheck, card, phone, mail, drop box or counter payment.
2
You know only the owner or address
Search by owner name or property address, then confirm the county, property ID, taxing entities and tax year.
3
The value or exemption looks wrong
Do not start with the payment counter. Use Williamson Central Appraisal District for value, exemption, owner, address and protest issues.

July 2026 changes
Use the new officeholder and Georgetown address
Current Tax Assessor-Collector
Catherine Totty was appointed by Commissioners Court on July 14, 2026 and began serving July 21.
The Texas Comptroller county directory was updated July 22 and lists Totty, 512-943-1601 and propertytax@wilcotx.gov.
Current Georgetown location
Williamson County Administration Building
1848 Texas Trail
Georgetown, TX 78626
The office reopened at this location June 25, 2026.
Stale-page conflict: Some official subpages still say to mail to 904 S. Main Street or make checks payable to Larry Gaddes. The current county payment/location pages use 1848 Texas Trail and also allow checks payable to Williamson County Tax Office. Use that office payee or call before using a personal-name payee.
Open Search My Property
Use tax.wilcotx.gov rather than a generic public-record site. The portal can show current/prior tax information, statements, payment history and receipts.
Start with the strongest identifier
Use the property account or Quick Ref ID from the statement. The payment-phone system describes Property IDs that begin with R, M or P.
Use owner or address only when needed
The official county page supports owner name, property address and account number. Start broad, then narrow the result.
Open the correct property
Compare owner, situs address, property ID, taxing jurisdictions and tax year. Same-name owners can have several accounts.
Check current and prior balances separately
Do not assume a current-year payment clears a delinquent year or a separate personal-property account.
Print the statement or receipt
Save the account page and payment receipt for escrow, closing, tax preparation or posting research.
2026 proposed-tax notifications: During August and September, the countyโs property-tax database is updated as taxing units propose and adopt rates. On a property detail page, taxpayers may subscribe to notifications after confirming an email address and name.
Confirm whether the property is in Williamson or Travis County
Round Rock spans both Williamson and Travis counties. A Round Rock mailing address does not by itself prove that Williamson County collects the tax.
Property search returns a Williamson account
Use the Williamson County portal and the Round Rock or other Williamson office.
No Williamson result appears
Check Travis County using the parcel/address before assuming the bill is missing.
City tax appears on the statement
The county tax office collects for multiple taxing jurisdictions; verify the full list of entities on the property account.
Value is wrong
Use the appraisal district for the county where the parcel is locatedโnot the city finance department.
Wrong-county payment risk: Do not pay because a portal happens to show a similar owner name. Match the parcel, address and taxing jurisdictions.
Allow 5โ7 business days; returned items cost $30.
Online card
2.15%, minimum $2.50
Visa, Mastercard, Discover or American Express.
Bank limits may decline a large transaction.
Telephone eCheck/card
Same published method fees
Property ID beginning R, M or P; amount; payment method.
Call 866-594-4215; incorrect data is not timely payment.
In person
No check/cash vendor fee; 2.15% card fee
Property/Quick Ref ID and accepted payment.
Office is closed Saturday/Sunday and holidays.
A confirmation is not permission to ignore the bank. Online and phone transactions may take 5โ7 business days to appear. The county posts the original transaction date when applied, but wrong information, insufficient funds or a closed account can result in a $30 returned-item fee and missed-deadline consequences.
Protect the address, postmark and account identifier
Current mail address
Williamson County Tax Office
1848 Texas Trail
Georgetown, TX 78626
Enclose the payment coupon or Quick Ref ID and owner name.
Recommended payee
Make the personal check, cashierโs check or money order payable to Williamson County Tax Office.
This avoids using the former officeholderโs name shown on stale pages.
USPS timing: Placing an envelope in a personal, community or post-office collection box does not guarantee that dayโs postmark. Near January 31, request a retail-counter postmark or Certificate of Mailing. A commercial postal-meter imprint is not an accepted USPS postmark for timely-payment purposes.
Drop-box locations

Drop-box rule: Use a personal check, cashierโs check or money order. Do not deposit cash or card information. The current property portal says deadline-day drop-box payments receive a mailed receipt.

Statement mailing, payment deadline and first delinquent charge
Mid-October 2026 โ statements prepared and mailed
The portal says mid-October; the main property-tax page states the week of October 20. Escrowed owners may view billing online.
January 31, 2027 โ full payment deadline
The county says payment must be received or USPS-postmarked by this date to avoid penalty and interest. January 31 is a Sunday, so do not assume an in-person visit is possible.
February 1, 2027 โ delinquency begins
The current county portal says a 7% penalty and interest is added to property accounts with an outstanding balance.
Later delinquency can become more expensive
Texas penalty and interest increase over time, and collection-attorney fees may apply after statutory referral. Use the live account for the current payoff.
Sunday deadline planning: January 31, 2027 falls on Sunday. The countyโs current portal still instructs taxpayers to pay or obtain a USPS postmark by January 31. Use online/phone payment, a qualifying USPS postmark or the official drop box rather than waiting for Monday.
Cannot pay in full? The county encourages paying as much as possible. Partial payment reduces the unpaid balance on which penalty and interest accrue, but it does not change the delinquency date.
Payment flexibility
Monthly prepayments, partial payments and quarter installments
Monthly scheduled prepayments
Automatic monthly deposits toward future taxes. Current/prior taxes must not be outstanding. The plan runs through September and requires annual re-enrollment.
Partial payments
Any accepted partial payment reduces the balance, but the remaining amount still becomes delinquent and receives penalty and interest.
Quarter installments
For qualifying homesteads with an over-65, disabled person or disabled veteran exemption under Section 31.031.
Monthly scheduled prepayment details
Choose the monthly amount and draft day
Use checking/savings or debit/credit card
Valid email required and cannot be changed in the profile
Plan ends in September and needs annual re-enrollment
Card drafts carry 2.15% fee, $2.50 minimum
Any shortage remains due January 31
County estimation method: Before the current bill is generated, the county suggests dividing the prior-year tax by the number of planned monthly payments through September. This is budgetingโnot a guaranteed final bill.
Quarter-payment schedule
Four-payment statutory plan
Installment
Due date
Late effect
First
January 31
Accepted after January 31 and before March 1 with 6% penalty and 1% February interest; eligibility can be lost if requirements are not met.
Second
March 31
6% penalty plus 1% interest per month on delinquent installment.
Third
May 31
6% penalty plus 1% interest per month.
Fourth
July 31
6% penalty plus 1% interest per month until paid.
Automatic quarter plan: The county also offers scheduled drafts in January, March, May and July. It auto-renews, allows a selected draft day and can be paused or canceled; any remaining balance is still due and card fees apply.
This is different from the over-65/disabled four-quarter plan. It is a written 12-month agreement for delinquent taxes on a residence homestead under the countyโs published fact sheet.
Requirements and consequences from the county fact sheet
Requirement or rule
What it means
Homestead exemption must be in place
The agreement is tied to the property on which the homestead is claimed.
No same agreement in preceding 24 months
A recent prior agreement can prevent enrollment.
Taxes must already be delinquent
This is not a current-year prepayment plan.
12-month written agreement
A payment is due by the end of each month.
Interest continues at 1% per month or part
The plan postpones collection action; it does not make the debt interest-free.
Prior penalties remain
Enrollment stops new penalties while compliant but does not erase penalties already accrued.
Missed payment cancels plan
A 6% first-month penalty plus 1% each additional month can apply as if no agreement existed.
Current taxes cannot become delinquent
The homeowner must keep the new tax year current while paying the agreement.
Enrollment route: The fact sheet says the owner signs and makes the first payment at the Georgetown office, with instructions to contact the office if unable to appear. After setup, payments may be made online, by mail or at any annex. Use the current Georgetown addressโ1848 Texas Trailโeven if an older linked page shows 904 S. Main.
Payment does not fix appraisal. Paying a bill does not correct the value, exemption or owner record. Contact WCAD and preserve any protest deadline independently.
Apply through WCAD, then verify the bill with the Tax Office
Residence homestead
Most property owners must file an application with the appraisal district. The application, eligibility and supporting documentation are determined by the chief appraiser.
Over-65 or disabled
These exemptions may create a school-tax ceiling and can make the homestead eligible for quarter payments or scheduled quarter drafts.
Disabled veteran/survivor
Qualification and exemption amount depend on the applicable Texas Tax Code category and documentation filed with WCAD.
Tax-ceiling transfer: The county says a qualifying tax ceiling may be transferred from a recently sold Texas homestead to a new Texas homestead. Contact WCAD for the application steps.
Tax deferral is not forgiveness: Eligible homeowners age 65 or older or disabled persons/veterans may file a residence-homestead deferral. The county says deferred taxes accumulate at 5% interest per year and remain payable later.
Apply with WCAD, not the payment processor
Match ID/address and ownership documentation
Respond promptly to requests for more information
Recheck the tax bill after an exemption is approved
Ask how refunds or corrected bills will be handled
Do not assume an application pauses payment or protest deadlines
The same office handles property tax and many TxDMV services
Williamson County tax offices partner with TxDMV for most local vehicle title and registration transactions. A property-tax visit and a vehicle-title visit may require different documents, appointment types and service counters.
Common services
Registration renewals
Title transfers
Vehicle-record address changes
Disabled placards/plates
Registration receipts
Temporary registration
Drive-through limits
Cedar Park and Round Rock drive-throughs are limited to registration renewals, disability placards and property-tax payments. Forms must be completed first.
Georgetown-only tax services
Tax certificates, occupational license tax and vehicle inventory tax are listed as Georgetown-only services.
Do not use a property-tax account number for a vehicle-title payment. Select the correct appointment/service and bring the current TxDMV-required identification and ownership documents.
Prevent duplicate or misapplied property-tax payments
Your lender normally pays
Search the property and compare the county balance with the lenderโs scheduled disbursement before paying personally.
You received a bill despite escrow
The county says the mortgage tax service may not have sent proper notification. Contact both the lender and Tax Office.
You recently bought the property
Confirm the WCAD owner record, parcel/account and closing tax proration. Do not rely solely on the name printed on an older statement.
You did not receive a bill
Search online in October. Failure to receive a statement does not stop the January deadline or penalty.
The payment is missing
Provide the Quick Ref ID, amount, transaction/check number, payment date, method and bank proof.
Two payments were submitted
Verify that both settled before asking for a refund or stopping a payment.
Useful payment-research script
โI am calling about property ID/Quick Ref [number] for tax year 2026. I paid [amount] on [date] by [method]. My confirmation or check number is [number]. Can you confirm whether it is processing, returned, posted to another account or duplicated?โ
Tax certificates, rolls and special requests
Use Georgetown for tax certificates and verify stale instructions
Tax certificate
$10 per certificate. Georgetown office only. Requests may be submitted in person or online; the county says they are processed at payment.
Property-tax roll/data
The county publishes current/prior taxes-due files and a request form. Standard statements, histories and receipts are available from the property portal.
Vehicle inventory tax
Collected through the Georgetown office and handled separately from a homeownerโs secured-property bill.
Tax-certificate page is stale: It still references 904 S. Main Street and the former officeholder. The current Georgetown office is 1848 Texas Trail under Catherine Totty. Call 512-943-1601 before submitting a certificate request or named-payee check.
Source review: August 4, 2026. Live balances, 2026 statements, vendor fees, office closures, wait times, officeholder labels and stale subpages can change. The current property account and responsible official agency control when action is taken.

Where is the Round Rock tax office?
It is at 1801 E Old Settlers Boulevard, Suite 115, Round Rock, TX 78664. It has a limited-service drive-through and exterior drop box. Verify that the property is in Williamson rather than Travis County.
What are the office hours?

When are 2026 taxes due?
The county says statements will be mailed in mid-October, with another page saying the week of October 20. Payment must be received or USPS-postmarked by January 31, 2027; unpaid balances become delinquent February 1.
Can I make partial or installment payments?
Yes. Partial payments are accepted, but penalty and interest apply to the unpaid balance after delinquency. Qualifying over-65, disabled and disabled-veteran homesteads may use four installments. Monthly prepayment is also available for accounts without outstanding taxes.
Should I contact the Tax Office or WCAD?
Use the Tax Office for bills, payments, receipts, penalty, plans and vehicle services. Use WCAD for value, exemptions, ownership, address and protests.
