Current 2026 issue

Why Davidson County 2026 property-tax bills are delayed

A North Carolina law effective June 19, 2026 postponed Davidson County’s planned revaluation from 2026 to 2027. The county says it must revert to the prior tax-year property values and reconcile records before generating 2026 bills.

June 19, 2026 — law changed the revaluation timingThe new legislation prevented the reappraisal from taking effect for most 2026 county tax calculations.
County records are being recalculatedThe county warned that reconciliation could take up to two months and that normal July bill mailing would be delayed.
You can still make an early paymentThe county says a taxpayer who wants to pay before September 1 may pay by mail or in person even without the final paper bill.
Real-property estimator only: the county says its 2026 estimator is for real property and that rates and values remain subject to change. Personal and business-property estimates are not available through that estimator.
Appeal note: taxpayers who timely appealed their 2026 revaluation do not need to refile. The county says any resulting value change will apply to the 2027 tax year.

Deadline mailing rule

The county says payment must be received in the Tax Collector’s Office or postmarked by January 5 to avoid delinquent interest. It recommends mailing at least five business days before the deadline.

Do not confuse mailing addresses: the Assessment side often lists PO Box 1617. The Tax Collections payment address published on the Collections page is PO Box 1577.
Due dates

July and August discounts, September due date and January cutoff

July — 1.5% discountThe Collections page lists a 1.5% discount during July.
August — 1% discountThe county lists a 1% discount during August.
September 1 — taxes are dueIf you have not received a statement by September 1, contact Tax Collections rather than assuming nothing is owed.
January 5 — normal last day before delinquencyIf January 5 is Saturday or Sunday, the county says the payment period extends to the next business day.
2026 timing is unusual: because bill mailing is delayed, use the live county update before relying on the normal July-mailing expectation. The county says the early discount remains available even with the delay.
Delinquent taxes

Interest, payment plans, garnishment and foreclosure risk

Interest after delinquency

The county states that real-estate accounts past due are charged 2% for January and an additional 0.75% each month thereafter.

Payment plans must start early

Davidson County says payment plans should be set up after the annual bill is received and must be completed by the delinquent date to avoid enforced collection remedies.

Wage garnishmentEmployment incomeCall for a current payoff and payment options.

2025 delinquent-tax advertisement: Davidson County published its real-property lien advertisement on March 25, 2026. The PDF states that listed amounts can increase with prior-year taxes, interest, costs and fees. Use the live account balance rather than copying a figure from the advertisement.
Ownership and escrow

New owner, closing or mortgage escrow? Verify who actually paid

You bought the property this yearThe county says real-estate bills are mailed to the listing owner as of January 1. The payment portal also warns that a new owner’s bill may stay under the prior owner’s name until the next billing cycle.
Your closing statement prorated taxesProration between buyer and seller does not by itself prove that the county bill was paid. Check the county account or ask the closing attorney.
Your mortgage company pays taxesConfirm an actual tax disbursement and then verify that Davidson County posted it. A monthly escrow deduction is not proof of county receipt.
You are recording a deedDavidson County requires tax certification in applicable deed-transfer situations and says a certificate may take up to two business days.
Escrow follow-up script“Please confirm whether the [tax year] Davidson County bill for parcel [number] has been paid, and if so, give me the payment date, amount, check/confirmation number and payee.”
2026 tax relief

Senior, disabled and disabled-veteran property-tax relief

Relief applications belong to the Tax Assessor side, not the payment counter. The 2026 county page lists these key routes:

Elderly or disabled exclusion

Age 65+ or totally/permanently disabled, with 2025 income not over $38,800. The exclusion is the greater of $25,000 or 50% of the appraised value of the permanent residence.

Disabled veteran exclusion

Up to $45,000 of appraised value for a qualifying honorably discharged disabled veteran or eligible unmarried surviving spouse; the county lists no age or income limit.

Circuit Breaker

Annual application required. It limits taxes to an income-based percentage but deferred taxes remain a lien and can become due after a disqualifying event.

2026 deadline: the elderly/disabled application states that the application must be received by June 1, 2026 to be timely filed. Do not send the application to the NC Department of Revenue; file it with the county Tax Assessor.
Vehicle taxes

Registered vehicle tax is paid through NCDMV, not the county payment counter

North Carolina’s Tag & Tax Together program combines registered-vehicle property tax with the annual registration renewal. NCDMV says vehicle tax and registration are paid together online, at a license-plate agency or by mail.

Pay the registered vehicle tax with the NCDMV renewal
Ask Davidson County Tax Assessor about vehicle value or tax-assessment questions
Use MyDMV for prior vehicle-tax payment records
Do not confuse home/land tax with Tag & Tax Together
