Services available at the Downtown office
The Downtown Hillsborough County Tax Collector location currently lists the following services. Requirements differ by transaction, so check the relevant official service page before leaving home.
Check documents before you travel
A service being offered at the location does not mean every transaction has the same identification, paperwork or eligibility rules. Driver-license, vehicle-title, registration and other services can require transaction-specific documents.
Do you need an appointment at the Downtown Tax Collector?
An appointment is not required to visit a Hillsborough County Tax Collector office. The Downtown office offers appointments for some services if you prefer to schedule ahead.
The appointment system requires a driver license or alien number when booking. Hillsborough County’s self-service information also states that appointments are available to county residents and may be scheduled up to 30 days in advance.
Use a walk-in visit when the service allows it and you have the correct documents for your transaction.
Use the appointment option when your service is eligible and you want a scheduled visit time.
Parking and VIN inspections at the Downtown office
County Center parking
The Downtown office identifies the County Center Garage at 710 E. Jackson Street, Tampa, FL 33602 as nearby parking.
Out-of-state vehicle VIN inspections
A physical VIN inspection is required for out-of-state titles or vehicles previously registered outside Florida. The vehicle must be present for the inspection.
For Downtown customers, inspections are performed at the County Center loading dock on Morgan Street between Kennedy Boulevard and Jackson Street. The Tax Collector also identifies public parking at 319 N. Pierce Street for this process and states that the first hour in that garage is free.
Downtown physical address vs. mailing address
The Downtown street address cannot accept mail. Use the correct mailing destination for the type of payment or document you are sending.
P.O. Box 30012
Tampa, FL 33630-3012
2506 N. Falkenburg Road
Tampa, FL 33619
The official contact instructions state that checks and money orders should be payable in U.S. funds to Nancy C. Millan, Tax Collector.
Drop-box payments
The Downtown office lists a drop box. Tax Collector payment instructions state that drop boxes accept checks or money orders; cash is not accepted. Confirm the current location instructions when using a drop box close to a deadline.
Property-tax due dates and early-payment discounts
Hillsborough County real-estate and tangible-property taxes become payable November 1 and are due in full by March 31 of the following year.
| Period | Standard treatment | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| November | 4% discount | Pay early after confirming the correct bill and account. |
| December | 3% discount | Verify the discounted amount before submitting payment. |
| January | 2% discount | Use the current account record rather than an old bill. |
| February | 1% discount | Allow enough processing time for your payment method. |
| March | Full amount due by March 31 | Do not leave mailed or bank bill-pay transactions until the last day. |
| April 1 | Unpaid taxes become delinquent | Use the delinquent-tax instructions for any remaining balance. |
What happens after April 1?
Delinquent real-estate taxes are subject to 3% interest and advertising costs. The amount due is based on the date the delinquent payment is received, not the postmark, and partial payments are not accepted for delinquent taxes.
The Tax Collector must conduct a tax-certificate sale on unpaid property taxes as required by Florida law. A tax certificate represents a lien-related interest; it is not an immediate transfer of property ownership.
Installment, partial-payment and deferral options
Hillsborough County provides several alternatives for taxpayers who cannot or do not want to make one annual lump-sum payment. Eligibility and deadlines differ by program.
Eligible taxpayers can pay real-estate property taxes in four installments. Applications must be made before May 1, and estimated taxes must exceed $100 per tax notice.
Current-year taxes can be paid in smaller amounts from November 1 through March 31. Each partial payment must be at least $100, and early-payment discounts do not apply.
Qualifying homestead owners may be able to defer part or all of eligible taxes under income and other statutory requirements. The application deadline is March 31.
Tax Collector vs. Property Appraiser
The Tax Collector receives property-tax payments, but it does not determine your property’s assessed value or approve property-tax exemptions.
- Paying property taxes
- Tax payment status and receipts
- Delinquent property-tax collection
- Tax payment plans
- Business-tax transactions
- Motor vehicle and driver-license services offered at the office
- Assessed property value
- Homestead and other exemptions
