What should you do first?
Use the bill or account details, verify Tax Bills is selected and confirm whether the amount is the first, second or full installment.
Search the last name plus first initial, or abbreviate street suffixes such as Street to St and Road to Rd.
Call for the exact balance, DMV-release route or Assessor adjustment before sending an estimated or duplicate payment.
How to search and pay a Glastonbury tax bill online
Use the search route that matches what you know
| Search route | What to enter | Best use | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|---|
| Owner name | Last name, space, first initial; or business name without comma | You know who the bill belongs to. | Using punctuation or too many name fields. |
| Property location | Street number and abbreviated street name | Real-estate address lookup. | Using full suffix when the database uses St, Rd or Ave. |
| Bill/account details | Numbers printed on the bill | Fast lookup when the paper bill is available. | Selecting the wrong Grand List year. |
| Payment history | Correct account and year | Receipt, escrow or tax-record research. | Treating history as an exact delinquent payoff. |
No bill found or the balance looks wrong?
Choose the payment method by fee, timing and proof

Real-estate liens, business UCC liens and collection action
The Town uses different enforcement tools for real estate, business personal property, motor vehicles and sewer accounts. Paying one account type does not automatically clear another.
| Account | Published Town action | What the taxpayer should do |
|---|---|---|
| Real estate | Liens are filed each March on accounts with outstanding taxes and remain until taxes, interest and fees are paid. | Request a payoff that includes lien-related charges before a sale, refinance or title deadline. |
| Real estate lien | Liens may be subject to foreclosure, tax sale or sale/assignment to a third party for collection. | Verify any third-party notice through Revenue Collection before paying. |
| Business personal property | UCC liens may be filed with the Connecticut Secretary of State and State Marshals may be used. | Give the office the business name, account, Grand List year and notice reference. |
| Business permit | The Town states that health permits will not be renewed for a business with outstanding taxes. | Resolve the payoff before a permit-renewal deadline. |
| Motor vehicle | Delinquent accounts are reported to DMV, receive a $3 reporting fee and may be referred to a collection agency. | Use the clearance-specific payment route in the next section. |
DMV clearance: choose the payment route by timing
Delinquent motor-vehicle and supplemental bills are reported to Connecticut DMV. All taxes, interest, fees and the Town’s $3 DMV reporting fee must be paid in full.
| Payment route | Accepted method | Published release timing | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tax counter | Cash, money order or cashier’s check | Payment received by 4:00 p.m. is included in the overnight release file | Call for the exact payoff before visiting. |
| Online | Credit card | Release within three business days | Save confirmation and allow processing time. |
| Personal check/e-check | Non-guaranteed funds | Not the Town’s listed immediate DMV-release route | Ask Revenue Collection before paying when registration is blocked. |
How to request a motor-vehicle credit or proration
The Assessor—not Revenue Collection—reviews whether an assessment can be adjusted. The Town requires two categories of proof.
Revenue Collection or Property Assessment?
| Your task | Correct office | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Search, pay or print a tax bill | Revenue Collection / portal | Maintains billing, payment and balance records. |
| Confirm late interest, lien or payoff | Revenue Collection | Handles collection status and enforcement. |
| Get DMV release after payment | Revenue Collection | Submits the Town’s release file. |
| Change property value or ownership record | Property Assessment | Maintains the Grand List and assessment records. |
| Change mailing address | Property Assessment | The Tax Office links address changes to the Assessor. |
| Sold/stolen/total-loss vehicle | Property Assessment | Reviews motor-vehicle credits and supporting documents. |
| Tax relief or exemption | Property Assessment | Determines eligibility and applies approved benefits. |
| Business personal-property declaration | Property Assessment | Receives annual asset declarations and exemption claims. |
Mill rates, assessment ratios and motor-vehicle depreciation
33.73 mills
The 2026–27 RE/PP rate was amended on June 3, 2026.
32.46 mills
The state-standard vehicle valuation method applies.
70%
Real and personal property are assessed at approximately 70% of market value; vehicles at 70% of depreciated MSRP.
Real-estate calculation example
Motor-vehicle calculation
The Town’s current method is: MSRP × age-based depreciation percentage × 70% × motor-vehicle mill rate. A newly registered vehicle can generate a January supplemental bill even when the normal July account is paid.
| Vehicle age | Percentage of MSRP before the 70% ratio | Practical meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 1 year | 90% | The newest vehicles retain the highest scheduled value. |
| Year 5 | 70% | The percentage falls as the vehicle ages. |
| Year 10 | 45% | Apply the 70% assessment ratio after this depreciation step. |
| Years 15–19 | 20% | Older vehicles remain taxable under the schedule. |
| 20+ years | Value not less than $500 | The official schedule lists a minimum value floor. |
Where the current tax levy goes
The Town’s current distribution table assigns 67.2% to education, 27.3% to Town government, 3.4% to capital programs, 2.0% to debt service and 0.1% to transfers. These percentages explain distribution—not the amount due on an individual bill.
Business personal-property declaration: deadlines, proof and submission
Paying a personal-property tax bill does not replace the annual declaration filed with Property Assessment. The declaration reports computers, furniture, equipment and other owned or leased business assets.
How to submit the declaration or supporting form
Scan and attach the signed form to assessor@glastonbury-ct.gov. The Assessor says it replies to emails; if no reply arrives, treat that as a warning that the email may not have been received.
